I was having trouble staying asleep, and it was suggested that if I had white noise throughout the night I might not wake all the way up 3-5 times like I was. But all the nature sounds clocks I found had limited sleep timers then woke you to the same nature sounds that put you to sleep. What's wrong with this picture?Enter this little number. Yes, it's a bit inconvenient to adjust the time and volume (but once you get it set it's fine.) Yes, some of the sounds are a bit artificial. (Although it has more to choose from than on others, so I bet you'll find one you like. The ocean is fabulous.) Yes, the sound is wonderful - beats the other inexpensive clock-radios I've had. BUT the magic is you can set the sleep timer for 30, 60, or 90 minutes ... or to run continuously. Then you can set the alarm to be buzzer, nature sounds, or am/fm radio. Problem solved! Very nice white noise all night (beats the tv on low) and yet wake to a nice stereo station! (I never noticed a buzz before it goes on, either with the white noise on or not. Think that guy got a defective one.) Told my therapist who said she had 5 other clients who needed the same thing. Amazon owes me a commission!

I got this for my sister as a Christmas gift, but was disappointed to find that it looks cheap and not well put together. The picture looks like a nice brushed metal finish, but it's very plastic looking. The unit has separate right and left volume controls which doesn't seem useful to me. I found that I'm constantly trying to balance the volumes. The clock radio is completely disconnected from the rest of the system. The display is only for the clock and the tuner is the old analog style rotating knob; no digital tuner. The sound is decent, but for the price of this product, I expected something a little nicer.

This SHOULD have been a FABULOUS product. It has many realistic NATURE SOUNDS but the choice selection INDICATOR LIGHT shines BRIGHT GREEN into your eyes at night--no dimmer. The easy to read LARGE LCD CLOCK is also too bright at night--no dimmer. The VERY STRONG radio tuner has a minuscule dial that's hard to see, especially in low light. The SPEAKERS are very good--but have awkward dual volume controls. It has an EXCELLENT REMOTE and a distinctive overall design. With a little improvement this would have rated 5 Stars. Don't expect top-notch and you'll probably be pleased for the money.

I got a cheapy clock similar to this, and the sounds were terrible. This clock has very good quality sound. I use it for white noise to fall asleep. I haven't used it to wake up yet, since I haven't got around to moving my bed to plug it in (ha-ha), but there is a very nice chime sound I am looking forward to trying.

We used the Relaxor regularly for about 18 months. Every time the power went out, the Relaxor quit working. Usually if we unplugged it for a bit, it would work again. (It was indeed plugged into a good surge protector.) Once, though, it wouldn't work again so we bought a new adapter for it from Radio Shack. This worked fine for a while, with the usual need to unplug it every so often. Yesterday, though, it couldn't be resurrected. I just bought another sound machine here on Amazon. The Relaxor wasn't good enough to purchase again.
It had a few good realistic sounds, albeit ones with short five-second loops. The forest sound has an obnoxious noise in it that my mind kept waiting to occur every five seconds, so it kept me awake rather than putting me to sleep. A lot of sounds, like the heartbeat and the chime, were very fake sounding and annoying. A few sounds were excellent: the rain, the surf, birds. We always mixed two sounds, which is a nice bonus feature. The casing is very lightweight plastic. The thing would've been much better if they'd used real sounds to create the different noises rather than using digital simulations. It would've been better if the loops were much longer; even just 30 seconds would've been good. But the poor handling of power outages/surges was the worst thing.

i got this clock for my wife, who's grumpy as hell if she gets woken up suddenly. When i unwrapped it, it seemed a bit cheaply made, but i thought "its the non-grumpy wife that matters". Unfortunately, before the relaxing sounds start (short loops that make the whole thing vibrate), the thing makes a loud buzz. BWARP! And im an idiot because i threw the packaging away, so i cant return it. So my wife (whos grumpy a lot now) reminds me costantly.

short loops and feedback!,

this has loops of nature sounds, but they are all very shot (10 seconds or so), so when you have the bird calls, for example, after one minute you know it by heart because it is so repetitive, and it is obvious when the loops cycle. also there is a low hum of feedback that is quite loud when the alarm goes off, which is not very relaxing. we are trying to return it but no luck, it looks like we can only exchange it due to the feedback problem. don't recommend.

This item was given to me roughly 10 years ago and everything still works beautifully. Want one for a relative but unable to find it anywhere. Mine was purchased at Bed, Bath and Beyond but they don't have them either. Sound is good, alarm is reliable and the remote is an added bonus. Going to take good care of mine now that I know there aren't any more available.

Pretty Good for the Price,

The sound quality is fairly good and it is easy to set up and operate. I really like the backlit clock! I wish the nature sound clips were longer. They are kind of short and just keep repeating for as long as you have it set to run. If they were longer, it would add more variety to the sounds you hear. Also, it would have been nice to add lighting to the volume controls so you can see them in the dark -- have to turn on the lights to change the volume. This really is a nice radio/sound machine/alarm for the price.

I've had my machine for over 5 years. It finally acted up. I can no longer combine sounds, can only listen to one at a time. I don't mind buying another after all this time. I would have appreciated a digital tuner, but really I only listen to one station while getting ready for work. Don't have time for station surfing. No one mentioned my favorite feature, the individual volume buttons for each speaker are meant to control each of the two sounds you choose to mix. No other machine does this. OK, Gotta get back to my purchase.
