This is a review of the vinyl reissue of RELAYER. I won't comment too much on the music here as this recording is not new but from the mid- seventies. It is a powerful work, probably the most progressive 'out there' recording in Yes' career. I looked forward to buying this new copy on vinyl and received it the other day. The gatefold LP jacket is reproduced perfectly with the inclusion of a small red '180 gram' logo on the back. The vinyl is thick and dead flat...so good so far. It's downhill from there folks. This is a DULL lifeless pressing. I don't know what went wrong here but it is lacking in overall presence. It sounds as is the high frequences are shaved off. I pulled out an old copy I have with a $3 sticker on it and gave it a spin. Wonderful dynamics, extension in the bass and treble...the only thing the reissue had over the old one was a dead quite surface ( no ticks or pops). BE WARE!

Just picked up this copy, to see how it is. One of my all-time fave Yes albums, being the only one with Pat Moraz on keys (check out blazing Mini-Moog solo on "Sound Chaser" - one of the all-time great recorded synth solos). I was swayed by "mastered from original tapes." Unfortunately, it must have been DIGITALLY (re)mastered, because all the tell-tale signs of digital mastering are present in abundance: flat, listless, lifeless, dull, one-dimensional sound. The absolute opposite of everything analog. Played on my Well-Tempered Amadeus table with Grado Statement cartridge; which makes clear almost any discernable strength and flaw. And this pressing is fatally flawed; not worth the money. Tragic pressing of a phenomenal album. :-(

Pat Moraz's only studio album with YES was one of the band's finest from the late seventies. Impeccable performances by Howe, Squire, Moraz, White and Anderson...make this an easy listen.

Audiophile album is the way to hear this. Blows away my cd for sound quality and tonality...and of course the 8-track tape that I first owned this on....
