Biography

The Like are the band of your dreams. I know this because I’ve met them.
Over there you have front-woman, cured delinquent Z Berg, with a brain
even sharper than her haircut (blonde bob) whose songs fizz and pop until
everyone's jumping on the bed! Drum duty is deftly taken-care of by the
comely Tennessee Thomas (she hits them hard). And introducing new
bandmates, ... Read more in Amazon's The Like Store

Editorial Reviews

2010 sophomore release from the all-female Pop/Rock quartet. Collectively their mission was to create the lost 60's girl group record of their dreams, and yours. With a little help from Mark Ronson, Alex Greenwald, and the soul and studio sophistication of Dap-Kings Tommy Brenneck and Homer Steinweiss, The Like have happened upon a sure classic. After years on the road with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Kings Of Leon and Muse, they're finally back with Release Me. It's a record about being heartbroken and breaking hearts, years of feverish living, harebrained schemes, and raving-mad relationships, testing boundaries and breaking them all down. In short, it's about growing up!

5.0 out of 5 stars A whole album of perfect pop songs June 17, 2010
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Not a single bad song, and that's very rare these days. I downloaded it one morning and listened to it non stop all day at work, and I'm still not tired of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars What's not to Like? October 6, 2010
By Robert
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I listened to the clips and read a few reviews that got me interested. I expected more of a Pipette sound (which was incredibly enjoyable on thier first full length CD) but the sound is actually more along the lines of the Monkees, Dusty Springfield style. Yes there is quite a bit of the Phil Spector girl group sound but this is more diverse; sometimes really good but a few come up short. It is still a good, fun listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where the Hell June 15, 2010
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Caught these ladies on AOL and had to buy after hearing 10 seconds.
After listening to the whole thing I would buy another just to lock it away for posterity.
People will be listening to this group for years to come : )

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun album, great new band! December 26, 2010
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Bought this after randomly hearing one song at a friends house...was not disappointed! They have a 1960's vibe that at the same time sounds quite modern. A great purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vinyl plus digital September 19, 2010

The vinyl includes a download voucher for digital copies. Best of both worlds. The album itself is one of the best of the year.

4.0 out of 5 stars May Not Be What You Expect June 15, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I was a huge fan of The Like's first record, so I had incredibly high hopes for this one. That said, this is a really good record, it's just very different from the first. The first had a beautiful hazy quality to it, while this is an homage to or recreation of 60s girl groups.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing escape June 28, 2010
By BK
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Listening to this album makes me smile and puts me in a good mood. The lyrics, harmonies, vocals and that organ playing by Annie Monroe all make for the most enjoyable album released so far this year. I just don't want to stop listening!

Edit:Just realized that keyboardist Annie Monroe joined after the album was recorded. After seeing them perform live I can assure you that she handles the her organ beautifully!

3.0 out of 5 stars Surprise surprise! June 23, 2010
Format:Audio CD
...I was wondering when the second Pipettes album would come out! I'm shocked to find out it's out now, only it's by the Like! Totally different from the first album, but I actually prefer its chirpy poppiness...fun stuff! Listen for yourself...

I like the concept and the retro sound, but the songs just aren't there. That's about all I can say.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Like
I loved their sound, it is reminiscent of the girl groups but yet is fresh. Too bad their other songs arent as good as Release Me but that alone is worth buying the CD.
