Sister Hazel "All For You" Live

Biography

It should come as no surprise that one of rock's most democratic bands would
come up with a most democratic album. For Release (Aug. 18, 2009, Rock Ridge
Music), their seventh disc of original material, Sister Hazel
(vocalist/guitarist Ken Block, guitarist/vocalist Drew Copeland, lead
guitarist Ryan Newell, bassist Jett Beres and drummer Mark Trojanowski)

5.0 out of 5 stars Sister Hazel is THE BEST! September 1, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was first exposed to Sister Hazel years ago at a beach bar in Clearwater where they were playing on the back porch with a Gulf Sunset behind them. Since then I have collected their CDs and list them as one of my favorites! This CD is no exception. If you are a Sister Hazel fan you will enjoy. If you are new to Sister Hazel, you might want to listen to Lift, or Fortress as well as Release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Your Fix On Sister, Brother! August 23, 2009
Format:Audio CD
Well, I didn't even know this band was still around let alone releasing new music, but when I saw this in Target in the new releases and for only $5.99 I just couldn't let this slip through my grubby little hands! And I'm so glad I didn't, they are sounding just as good if not even better than before! The songs Release, Take A Bow and I Believe In You are standouts and ready for the top 100 if only they get the airplay they deserve! See what I mean and pick up your copy today! You won't be sorry!

4.0 out of 5 stars Real Good October 7, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Sister Hazel has a huge cult following. That's no surprise considering they have been fairly consistent with everything they have done. They are sort of a cross between Rodney Crowell, meets Tom Petty, meets Radney Foster, meets Firefall, meets ARS. They have a lot of influences but manage to still have their own sound. Most of their work leans toward a country rock flavor. Release sort of puts a glossier shine on things. It's a little more radio friendly yet manages to have an identity that keeps things fresh. This is not great music but it is enjoyable and much better lyrically than most modern day music.

If you lean towards a country flavor with a little kick then Release will fit that bill. Check out some of their earlier releases as well. This is a band that, up to now, has stood the test of time.

It's All For New: Hazel's Latest Release Breaks The Norm, Molds A Form...
By Denton Ramsey

Sixteen years and seven studio albums into their career, Sister Hazel is soaring to new heights -- and from their self-titled white album days to their latest Release, these guys don't miss a beat. Ken Block, Drew Copeland, Ryan Newell, Jett Beres, and Mark Trojanowski are the masterminds behind the magic -- running through new musical scores like an All-Duke Basketball Team led by Coach K.

The five Hazel members are more than just band buddies -- they take music and their passion for writing and composing music to a brand new level with Release, breaking the norm by a long-shot in their approach to their newest album, due to hit stores on Aug. 18.

With Release, Sister Hazel has jumped into a category that may very well stand alone. This musical masterpiece, the bands seventh disc of original material, was a true team effort in its creation.

All five band members came to the table with numerous songs, and each member was given two tracks for the album, with Copeland and Newell garnering three apiece.

"We felt it was time for a different type of record, and we figured the best way to make a different kind of record is to change the record making process," Newell said.

The band also used a similar approach when recording their 2007 Christmas album, Santa's Playlist. In addition to contributing a song, the songwriter would then guide his design through the recording process.

"The concept worked so well for us," Trojanowski said. "We thought we'd use it on our studio album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sister Hazel April 28, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I just received this yesterday and been listening to it today. I actually like this one better than all the others that I have. It's good easy listening music. I feel for someone that has not heard "Sister Hazel" music before, that this will make them a fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Hazel March 6, 2010
By Pinger
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
Although it is not as great as "Fortress", "Release" is still an incredible album and has the classic Sister Hazel sound. If you like southern rock or old-school alternative, you should pick up some Sister Hazel albums, including this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A solid Release, thanks to the whole band's efforts January 12, 2010
Format:Audio CD
I'll admit to being a bit of a Hazelnut. I've got all of their albums, from their self-titled "white album" to Absolutely, plus both live albums, BAM! Volume 1, and Drew Copeland's solo album.

This time, though, every member of the band pitches in with some songwriting effort, sometimes with outside help, sometimes solo. And you know what? It works. Every band member contributes his best effort to this album. What's more, it doesn't sound like a patchwork quilt of sound--it gels very nicely. All the songs are worth listening to--something I *very* rarely say about an album!--and several are excellent.

My personal favorite songs on this album are the title track, See Me Beautiful, and Ghost in the Crowd. Take a Bow, Run for the Hills, and Take it Back are also very good. And *all* the tracks on the album are worth listening to multiple times.

In the end, this album doesn't quite match up to my favorite Sister Hazel album (Chasing Daylight), but still is an excellent Release from Sister Hazel.
