SWV release some tension,
By "2tekz" (Gunchester) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Release Some Tension (Audio CD)
from the opening track to the last track, this album is solid right the way through. there are many guest appearances on this album, including missy elliot and lil kim. production wise, timbaland and puff daddy provide the beats and the magic. this album is not only for the dance floor. there is a few smooth ballads on it. number 10 is the best track by far! buy this LP, coz these sisters have voices! Keep it G

The Hardest Working Trio In Show Business,

I love this album. This album was my favorite back in 5th grade. Every song is good. I don't give a damn what anyone thinks of this album. This album shows them working with the hottest producers (of 1997). This album shows that SWV has sexually released their tension. This album is chock full of the best of today's most slamming grooves, done-SWV style(1997). This album gives what SWV fans want and more. They also continued a steady pattern with this album. This album has been certified Platinum or Gold. Remember, this was 1997.

RCA had such a hot album on their hands with this record, too bad they neglected to, gee, promote it. While coming out only a year after their sophmore album, this album really managed to nail the then-current music vibe, as It's About Time did in '92. The only really wack songs are "Gettin' Funky" which is really a Snoop Dogg song featuring SWV, and "Love Like This" which is just annoying and features the so-so Lil' Cease. The rest of the album is hot, besides the singles you've undoubtedly already heard, "Come And Get Some," (should have been a single) "When U Cry" and "Lose Myself" are blazing. One of the best albums you've never heard.

"Can we get " Swv back again........this cd shows u why,

This cd from Swv was the third cd to drop from them shortly after the second release "new begining" didn't do that good. This whole album is good and I don't think it was promoted good enough. They had guests that I don't think people even realised were on here like Lil kim, foxy, puffy, snoop dogg, lil cease, missy, and redman. It's only 2 songs I can think of on this that wern't so good. Everything else was on point and should have made them go past just gold. Songs like "rain" and "can we" got a lot of radio play and are some of the best songs on this. Overall if u missed out on swv this is a good cd to listen to that shows u how much they had going even after they broke up.

Their will never Be A Female Group As Tight As SWV,
By A Customer
This review is from: Release Some Tension (Audio CD)
I am so hurt that my favorite girl group broke up! They were and always will be the best. They are the supremes of today and I have loved them since day 1! Though my favorite album is the first, the second and third were great as well. Release some Tension should not have had so many rappers on it. As far as I'm concerned I wish there would have been more tracks and more LeLee and Taj singing lead. I hope and pray they get back together and prove once and for all who is number 1! Tell all these up and coming singers to stop trying to immitate my girl CoKo!

The year was 1997 and SWV dropped the infectious single, "Can We" (featuring Missy and produced by Timbaland) from the "Booty Call" soundtrack. RCA Records saw the success of that single and quickly got SWV in the studio to put out Release Some Tension within a few months. And after listening to this album, it shows that it only took a few months. Instead of enjoying the success of "Can We" or the acclaim they got for their New Beginning album they released a year earlier, they gave us this album full of guest rappers and tracks sampled from yesteryear's Top Ten Hits. This album should have been called Rap All-Stars featuring SWV because the ladies appear to be guests on their own album. This example is illustrated best on the song featuring Snoop Dogg that rides a tune similar to The D.O.C.'s "It's Funky Enough", predictably titled, "Gettin' Funky". Snoop raps all 3 verses while the ladies sing the chorus. You'll also find Lil' Cease rapping on "Love Like This", which rides the same "Rain Dance" sample by Jeff Lorber that he and Lil' Kim used on the "Crush on You" remix. No, Kim isn't on that song; she's instead on "Give It Up" ripping the mic while Taj sings lead. And with the exception of Redman on "Lose My Cool", the other rappers give lackluster performances (see Foxy Brown on the title track). The good songs on here will make any fan proud. "Lose Myself", "Here For You", and "Rain" are great slow jams (which is what SWV is known for) and, of course, "Can We" is on here. But these tunes aren't enough to save this album from mediocrity. In the end, the only way you'll release some tension is by throwing this CD out your car window.

SWBLR - Sisters With a Bunch of Lame Rappers,

This album is bad. For a last album they should have done better. This whole thing was below them. This album features a whole bunch of lackluster rappers that nobody really takes seriously and a whole bunch of beat jacking. The only sounds of greatness is "Rain" this is a R&B classic in my opinion and "Can We" this song was well produced by Timbaland.

When "Tension" is released, expect quality,
By Mecca Egypt (Gardena, CA United States) - See all my reviews

Their third and final album as a group, "Release Some Tension" almost measured up to the their 1992 smash "It's About Time." SWV's sultry vocals help carry some of the weaker tracks like "Lose Myself" and "Here For You." But it's songs like "Rain," and "Release Some Tension," that make this CD shine. In addition, their unique collaboration with E-40 on "Come And Get Some" proves worthy. Overall, this album served as a clear reminder of their staying power -- if only they were promoted right.
