A Songbird for all Seasons,
By A. Hickman (Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Relentless (Audio CD)
When they were casting about for someone to play Dusty Springfield in a biopic a few years back, I suggested Jo O'Meara. As far as I know, she was never considered for the part, but I still think she'd have been great. She's a versatile singer, and she can act, and she's got the `60s-era pop star look. Donovan might have written a song about her. Of course, she doesn't really sound like Dusty, and that's to her credit. She sounds like nobody so much as herself. And, after singing lead on a string of hits as front-person for the S Club, she's finally coming into her own as an adult performer. One look at the cover photos on "Relentless" and you know this young woman is a force to be reckoned with. The bad news is that the material on "Relentless" doesn't always show her off to advantage. I like a lot of these songs, especially the title track and "You Didn't Know," for which Jo herself takes co-writing credit, but nothing here really knocks the socks off me, although "Relentless" comes close and "What Hurts the Most" is as catchy as anything she did with the S-Clubbers. The arrangements are uniformally tasteful, if a bit on the "safe" side, and I like the fact that the producers haven't settled for a generic sound. However, the reason to buy this album is to revel in Jo's sultry, soaring vocals; they make even the most mediocre songs sound like instant classics.

say what you want about both her and S CLub. but you can't say that they, nor er can't sing b/c you'd be lying. out of all of them, Jo does have the strongest voice. [as showcased in "Reach and "Never Had A Dream Come True] this album is no different. vocally she rises to the challenge everytime especially w/ the single that Rascal Flatts so slyly remade here in the U.S., "What Hurts The Most".and the other songs are great too but the only reason I gave this album 3 1/2 stars is b/c it's an album full of ballads. while I do love ballads, I would love to hear a club jam or two thrown in the mix just change it up a bit. but otherwise it is a good CD you'll just have to listen to half now and half later like I did since it's full of ballads. but I do hope to hear more from here in the future. her voice is amazing !!!

I have high expectations for Jo, so I was so glad I got this CD. All the songs on the CD are great and I've listened to every song at least 50 times and I still listen to this CD today. Definitely worth getting!!

S Club's Best Singer Nails It!,
By Green Eyes (NY, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Relentless (Audio CD)
I never really listened to S Club when they were popular since they never made it that big in the US, but I started listening to a few of their songs after Jo was in the headlines again, and what I can say, I absolutely fell in love with her voice, let's face it, she was the one who made that group, despite the fact that much of it was cheesey pop. I then came around to listening to this album, and I think it is brilliant. Her voice can bring me to tears (not in a bad way) and really bring out my emotions. "I believe in you" and "Rainbows End" have got to be my favorites, to the person who said Jessica Simpson could do better, what a joke. "What Hurts the most" also a great cover, she does justice to it. A great singer with a great album is what she is, I agree with whoever said they could listen to her all day.

Well, I have been a fan of S Club since there were 7 of them in Miami. After the split Rachel came out with a very good album and I was wondering what happend to the others. I finally here that Jo has a new album out and I have to get it imported to the states. After missing the clubbers and hearing this album I forgot just what an amazing voice she has. If you like pop music get this album.

The wonderful sound of Jo O'Meara!,

The voice of S club 7 and someone who did not rush into a fast solo CD to cash in after the band broke up. Jo has a voice that I can personally listen to all day long.
This her first, and at this time last solo album sold has only a few tracks that one may want to skip, and sadly her trademark powerhouse voice was not really showcased here. But this is a wonderful debut none the less The best song here is "What hurts the most" which Rascal Flats has out now on the US charts. Personally Jo does a much better job and makes it more of a good pop song you could hear on the radio. Other winners are "I believe in you" & "Never meant to break your heart." who knows why one song sticks out to one person more then another, but I love her voice on "Never meant to break your heart." towards the end even more so when the music swells and she lets out real emotion. If you are into ballads, and easy listing this is for you. If you are a fan of her old band S Club 7 and pop then this is for you...and if you want to hear an artist that will sadly only be heard in the UK, this great disk is for you. If you buy, it may be cheaper to get it from Amazon UK, where their import price ends up cheaper with shipping then the one here.

Relentlessly Jo,

This is the solo debut album from former S Clubber Jo O'Meara and she picked a good variety of songs. Her voice is so beautiful, powerful, and moving. The CD is a great album to own and it includes 2 cover songs of "What Hurts The Most" which Rascal Flatts covered earlier this year and a cover of the Tim McGraw song "It's Your Love." Don't be mistaken though, there are no country songs on the CD, it's all adult-contemporary and pop. This is a have-must for anyone who likes or liked S Club 7.

Relentlessly boring...,
By Pocha Dot (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews

Dull... Flat... Lifeless... Are great ways to describe this boring album.
There's nothing special about this CD. The tracks "Relentess" and "Let's Love" are the only good songs on the entire album, The rest are completely boring. Jo' would sound alot better if she put in some time for vocal training before recording a 14 track album, that's a bit lengthy for such weak performance. There's definitely some pitch problems throughout the cd. She's monotoned and sings in one key on every single song, If there were no instrumental, she'd be talking to herself. With the proper training she has what it takes to belt a ballad and bring more magic and enchantment to her sound. Her pitchy and out-of-tune vocals makes the listener cringe and are frustrating to listen to. A lot of notes and need to be re-worked and edited. It does'nt sound good. I find myself squinting when she takes a chance at hitting certain notes. I'm skeptic about purchasing any future material from Jo', If she gets the training I'll continue purchasing but I have a feeling she'll never get around to doing it. I'm sure she thinks she sounds amazing and noone ever listened to her album to tell her that she needs it. So i'm guessing I'm out of luck. I "did" get two new songs to add to my iPOD though, But if she keeps this up Noone will be checking for Jo'.

Flat and Limp Voice,
This review is from: Relentless (Audio CD)
I Like About 3 or 4 songs on here. I hate to sound negative but what i do not like about this cd is that, Jo'Omeara sounds very pitchy in most of the songs...Her voice starts to sound flat and very monotone after 1 or 2 songs. She Does'nt have much range. She Just raises her voice. Her voice sounds shakey and unstable. especially on "Relentless" the very first track. I love the song,i really do but her voice sounds like any minute shes gonna break down and cry. I am not a great singer myself but,Jo Omeara needs some voice lessons. Her voice is very drab and boring. It's Nothing extra.
For some reason she sounded so much better with S Club 7...you know what, the songs on the album are great,if Kelly Clarkson or Jessica Simpson sang them. I listen to the songs and just imagine "what if..."...it gets me through the songs i like. |
