Deserves 10 stars!,

This may be the best doom metal record of all time and one of the top 5 metal albums of all time. Just like Slayer Reign in Blood is the best in its genre and every metal fan should own it, this is the best in the doom genre. It is hard to believe that when most of the metal world were busy trying to look like women and shaking their @ss, metal this heavy was being created and very few people noticed.

This band, from what I have heard so far, is very much Sabbath-sounding, though by listening to a doom metal band you would expect it to be so. I find it easy to listen to without much "getting-accustomed" to it, as the vocalist, with all honesty, sounds uncannily like Gene Simmons of KISS to me sometimes, and at other times he shows his Ozzyisms. This is very enjoyable metal that would indeed do honor to Black Sabbath, and fans of that band (meaning anybody who listens to heavy metal, as that this is the genre Black Sabbath created after all.. ) would like this one.

This is a must own for all fans of Metal and DOOM! Pentagram are the among the greatest DOOm bands of all time. If Sabbath are the fore fathers then Pentagram are the sons.

I'd heard some of the early 70's Pentagram era stuff here and there, but didn't pay too much attention to them until recently. My mistake.
This is the first official album Pentagram ever released. Front man Bobby Leibling had been through 2 lineups operating under the 'Pentagram' name before he hooked up with a newly formed band named 'Death Row' helmed by guitarist Victor Griffin. Liebling and the Death Row boys hit it off, changed their name to 'Pentagram', and thus this album was born in 1985, almost 15 years after the first iteration of Liebling's 'Pentagram' had tried and failed to hit it big. And good grief is it right up my alley. This isn't screamy wannabe Satanism, this isn't overwrought campy doom metal. This is a talented vocalist belting it alongside amazing and catchy minor-key riffs, with a great bassist and fantastic drummer rocking along. This is the real deal. This is fantastic metal. The production is poor, yes, but that stops bothering you after you get sucked into the amazing tracks here. Every track on here is amazing, this is a true "no-skip" listen. If I had to pick favorites, I'd go with the amazing "Relentless", "Death Row", and "Dying World". This album is a keeper, and one of my all-time favorites. As a side note, don't be put off by the band name or the cover art. The lyrics are ex-Catholic angst and fear in the grand tradition of Sabbath, not hymns to Satan.

This album is one of the best if not the best Doom metal album ever! All the songs are good & Bobby lieblings voice sounds as doomed as it gets. It's to bad this album never got the hype it deserves. Unfortunetly Pentagram could never make another album this good. Good singing heavy riffs pentagram, trouble, saint vitus, are my top 3 doom metal bands & of course Black Sabbath!!

This one sounds alot like black sabbath and they do a great job making gothic metal here. The vocals are clear and sung which is another reason that this is better than alot of todays badly sung thrash metal or worse. It's a dark cd without being dumb like death metal often is because it's riffs are clear and the insruments are played actually. If you like gothic metal , or black sabbath this is a great one to get. Sortof like 'iron claw' from 1975 another band similiar to this one and heavily influenced by the sabs. This songs are power cord driven too another cool feature of this band, unlike sabbath though no track on here could have made it into the top forty like lets say paranoid did , still It's great gothic metal and that's enough for me. IN spite of the name of the band I doubt that they were satanists either. Instead like sabbath they talk about sinners which is sorta cool in one song. This is heavy music straight out of the doom metal book and you can even enjoy the vocalist.

I must say that these guys sound more like Black Sabbath than Black Sabbath does! They've taken a genre started by Sabbath and run with it. The vocals are like what Ozzy might have done if he had of stayed on track with Sabbath in the seventies. The guitar playing is not quite as bluesy as Iommi, but is very heavy and still good nonetheless. This is a great representation of the Doom genre. The CD booklet has an incomprehensible ramble by Mr. Liebling, but I guess that fits with the whole concept. The photos are great too. I recommend it.

Black Sabbath would be proud of this band. That being said this is the only album worth buying by them for Sign Of The Wolf (Pentagram)

Good beat and rhythm,
This review is from: Relentless (Audio CD)
The riffs in the songs are very good-- so compliments to all the guitars, bass, and drums. The lead singer is a bit off I would have to say, the words he uses just don't make sense to me at times and can take away from the beat of the rhythm. I gave it 3 stars because of that-- 5 minus taking away from beat and rhythm makes 3 stars.
