Book Description

June 1, 2006 3540672753 978-3540672753
This textbook on Reliability Theory focusses on Applications in Preventive Maintenance (PM). All models are presented in connection with the relevant statistical material. Short and simply written the book is almost self-contained. The reader needs not more than basic knowledge of calculus, probability and statistics. Each chapter is concluded by a series of exercices with detailed solutions. Numerical solutions are elaborated with Mathematica software. Novel topics are discussed, like PM with learning, choice of the best time-scale for PM, handling multidimensional state description, dealing with uncertainty in data. The book is meant for graduate students, researchers and engineers specializing in Quality Control, Logistics, Reliability and Maintenance Engineering.

Editorial Reviews

Review

From the reviews: TECHNOMETRICS "…a welcome addition to the resources our profession possesses to learn from, teach from, and refer to…Overall, this is a wonderful book. The theory is sound, the examples are practical, real concerns are treated, and the exposition, although economical, is well organized and logically laid out…As a resource for self-study and as a reference for the professional, this book is an example for others to follow." MATHEMATICAL REVIEWS "This book gives a very concrete introduction to basic preventive maintenance policies in reliability theory. The material is presented in an elementary way which makes it accessible for readers with basic knowledge of calculus, probability and statistics. Each chapter is concluded by a series of problems with detailed solutions. Overall, the book can be used as an excellent master-level textbook in maintenance policy for graduate students in industrial engineering, operation research, applied probability and statistics…The book is quite nicely written…One special feature of this book is that it contains many interesting examples, which are used for illustrating the basic concepts and theory."

5.0 out of 5 stars Book review, June 12, 2001

This review is from: Reliability Theory With Applications to Preventive Maintenance (Hardcover)
This modest and well organized book explores detailed case studies of the challenging area devoted to Reliability and Preventive Maintenance for practitioners, researchers and students specializing in Operations Research, Reliability, Quality Control and Logistics. An outstanding feature of the book is detailed numerical solutions to many problems solved with the help of Mathematica software. This makes easy for usage both by the lecturer and by the student. It may be highly recommended not only for the academic level and University libraries, but also for use by practitioners and we hope that the modest price of $74 is worth dealing with such an original and research priceless material, which is a valuable contribution to the fields of reliability and Preventive Maintenance research and studies.

4.0 out of 5 stars HIghly readable yet dense with theory, July 16, 2002
By
This review is from: Reliability Theory With Applications to Preventive Maintenance (Hardcover)
Refreshingly well-written and organized. Good graphics and figures. Focuses on the main issues of maintanence strategy, both from a rigorous numerical point of view and a practical point of view. More discussion of general modeling techniques of entire systems would be useful, especially when considering the design phase of a life-cycle cost analysis.
