This iron is nothing short of *AMAZING!*
I went through 6 Rowenta's in 2 years and finally gave up on them spitting, leaking and not heating. The $169.00 Rowenta I got for Christmas last year conked out after 6 weeks---6 weeks for $169.00--ridiculous! I replaced it 5 times (YES--FIVE) and each Rowenta was worse than the 1st -and don't even get me started on Rowenta customer service...ugh!
I've had this Velocity iron for 3 months and it has not spit or leaked one single drop of water--works perfectly everytime~ Heats and stays heated thanks to the auto-shut off bypass (love this feature as I am a sewer!) The steam is phenomenal for the steam vents only being at the top (I was worried about this before purchasing--but it steams 1,000 times better than my $169.00 Rowenta with steam hole vents on the entire face plate!) This iron has made a tremendous difference in my work~glides over fabric easy as pie and takes the wrinkles and creases out quickly--LOVE!
Worth every single penny! I am soooo glad I found this iron!'

**UPDATE 12/7/12** I can't for the life of me figure out why this iron is getting bad reviews! I've had this iron now for 2 years and not a spit or leak to speak of! Still super hot, great steam, perfect ironing--Still 5 Stars--Still LOVE it! Love it so much, I'm upgrading to the newest model the "V200" by Reliable just to have some of the new features...
Here's some tips for some of the comments I've read on reviews:
*DO NOT overfill your tank!!!! Don't even fill it to the "MAX" line--fill just slightly under--if you overfill even just a hair--your water capacity indicator will go haywire and this may be what is causing your iron to leak.

I was thrilled with the description of this iron, and was able to read the manual before purchase - a real plus.

I had this iron for almost 3 weeks... using it a minimum of 15 days.

I'm left-handed and having the side steam buttons on both sides of the handle was terrific.
I enjoyed being able to turn off the steam instantly. The steam was terrific for getting out creases - and the sole plate wasn't so hot that it risked scorching - very nice.
A friend as the blue Velocity which has two levels of steam - I think I would have liked a lower setting for quilt-patchwork, less chance of steaming my right-hand thumb (used to hold down patchwork seams.

Why I returned it:

As I would grip the iron, the on/temp-change button would 'creep' under the pad of my index-finger as it joins the palm of my hand. From one moment to the next... I would have my temperature changed because I would inadvertently press this button, I wish it had been raised above the level of the handle.

The manual stressed using distilled water - which was no problem.
The manual also stressed emptying the iron after using it, for longevity. I could not get the iron to empty. Most of the water would pour out, leaving what I guess about 1/4 cup inside the iron. I'd tip the iron this way and that... and I could get 1/2 the remaining water out.. by letting the water drain onto the iron steam and on/temp. buttons and my hand.
The only way I could get the iron empty of water... was to let it run dry... - I did that once just before re-packaging and returning it to Amazon.

I figured that the water pouring over the buttons would not help the longevity, and leaving water in the iron, wouldn't either.

I would have tried the other Velocity iron..

Finally, an iron that you can reset so it does not turn off automatically. As a sewer it is really annoying when your iron turns off and you have to wait for it to reheat. This one you can reset to stay on until YOU turn it off.
Lots of steam too, whenever you want it.

9 July 2011 Update: I stopped using this iron after buying (due to the design flaws listed below), but had to go back to it when my old Rowenta really stopped working. Now one of the lights on the V50 has stopped functioning, so i can't tell if the iron is on or not when I am trying to use the third highest setting. This is a product that deserves negative stars!

I design textile products for a living with 25 years of experience behind me. I work mainly in military R&D, but I also sew everything from wedding dresses to quilts and curtains. My Rowenta was feeling its years, so I bought the V50 in September 2010 after seeing some favorable reviews and doing a little research. This is what I found:

V50 Pros:
- Excellent steam output, both horizontally and vertically

V50 Cons:
- It takes FOREVER to heat up.
- The steam feature will only work when the iron is at temperature. If you have inadvertently toggled the steam button while the iron is heating up, it will suddenly come on at the instant temperature is reached, possibly when you didn't want or expect it to.
- The temperature select button is located such that it is very easy to toggle while in use. The result is accidentally heating up the iron to a temperature not safe for your fabric, or accidentally shutting off the steam while you are using it.
- There are only four temperature settings. I prefer to have more temperature options and will be happier going back to my Rowenta dial.
- 8 minute auto shut-off is too short. I would always find the iron shut off by the time I got back to it and then I would be standing and waiting FOREVER (see first bullet) while it came back to temperature.
