For our recent Labor Day camping trip, I purchased this toilet seat along with the privacy pop-up tent. I wanted a middle-of-the-night potty so I didn't have to take that 3am spooky walk to a desolate campground bathroom. We used a 5 gallon Lowes bucket that we already owned and we screwed it down to two 2x4's (as feet)which helped stablize it and raise it a bit for a more natural height. I used others suggestions on here and bought deodorized 13gal garbage bags to line bucket, then filled with a couple inches (not just a cup as some mentioned?!) of Fresh Step cat litter. This worked beautifully! The cat litter acted as an absorber and a silencer. The next morning; I would take the bag out, tie it up and dump it in the dumpster. There was no smell at all, the litter was an excellent suggestion, and everything was solidified. Then, I sprayed the bucket with lysol (nothing got in or on it, just a precaution), cleaned the seat with a bleach wipe and set it back up for the next night. I agree with other posters about the toilet seat back being weird...it doesn't go back quite far enough so it leans on your back. FYI - we only used this for emergency peeing at night and it worked very well for it's intended purpose!

This is a good item to have for traveling, camping, etc. Glad that I bought it, and if I had it to do over, I would purchase it again.

Used it for the first time while camping this weekend. We needed something for our camper that did not take up lots of space and this was the perfect answer. I purchased a standard 5 gal bucket from our local store and the seat snapped tightly to it! We used 8 gal kitchen bags and double bagged the bucket and added a bit of kitty litter (adding a little each time we went). No more walking to the outhouse in the middle of the night for this mom, or any more accidents with the kids because they can't make it in time. One happy camper!

OK, so the title of my review may sound a bit odd - I agree. I car camp extensively all over New York State and also fly to the National Parks and am able to take almost all of the gear that I use when car camping in NYS except for a porta-toilet. I am a very active above knee amputee (with prosthesis) and probably do more than most people with 2 legs. That being said, I don't sleep with my prosthesis on and if I need to use the facilities during the night it can be a pain to carry a flashlight while using crutches at 3 a.m. I've always had to get the site right next to the facilities when I fly to my camping destination because of this. These sites aren't always the best sites with regard to privacy and noise level due to the in and out traffic. This eliminates (no pun intended) that problem.

Since it's just the cover and is totally flat I can easily pack this (wrapped in a basic plastic shopping bag) into my 27" pullman with my tent and other gear. Or if I choose to send a box to the hotel I'm at for a night or two before heading to the campground I can ship it there easily along with other gear in a 14x14x14 box. My favorite National Park to camp at is Rocky Mtn. NP in Colorado. I can land in Denver, get my food supplies and swing by a Lowe's or Home Depot to spend a whopping $3 on a 5 gallon bucket. Now I can get a more private site or one with a nicer view that's further away from the facilities since I can just keep it in my tent and take care of it first thing in the morning after I put on my prosthesis.

I (gratefully) realize that my needs for this product are a bit unusual compared to others, but I think most can agree that no one really wants to trapse out of their tent at 3 a.m. to walk 10 sites down to use the facilities, esp. if kids are with you.

So nice for camping, put a little all purpose cleaner and water in there and you are all set!

What can I say? This product is perfect for those of us who have to get up in the middle of the night and don't want to walk what equates to 3 blocks to the campground bathroom. And I can think of a lot of other uses as well. It was easy to use, easy to clean up after and worked as it was advertized.

It is what it is, but it's also incredibly flimsy. I'd consider myself "average" size for an American, which means I could probably refuse seconds once in a while and still not wither away, but that said, tread lightly on this thing, folks...

This plastic seat has 5 sharp points on the inside of the rim where the cutout for the seat opening was made. It is apparently from where the plastic over the opening was removed. I had to take a nail file and smooth them over to prevent scratches to myself when sitting on the seat. This is a poor quality item due to that. It shows the company worker did not test the inside rim by running his finger over it to ensure that it was smooth. This product was made in Canada, and I have seen better workmanship from China. I give it two stars good because it did actually fit the industrial pail as it said it did.
