I received this watch from my family for my 36th birthday, and I love the looks of it! I've never had a watch that you could see all of the inner workings, and the self-winding mechanism is extremely cool! However, I have some concerns about the quality. After about 5 days of wear, I noticed water condensation under the crystal. Having not gotten it any wetter than would happen while washing hands or doing dishes, I exchanged it at the department store where I purchased it. The second watch also developed condensation under the crystal within a week of wear! Needless to say i was quite disappointed. I have sent an email to customer service and hope to come to a speedy resolution. I am hoping that the St. Louis area just received a bad batch of this model watch and they can send me a replacement.

Edit 7/25/11: Relic/Fossil sent me a pre-paid envelope and I shipped the watch to their repair center, and received it back a few weeks later. I've now been wearing the watch regularly for a few weeks and so far, no water has re-appeared. Upgrading my review to 4 stars from 3. I'll be sure to post back if the water problem re-occurs!

My wife bought me this watch from a local department store for Father's Day. I loved it from the moment I opened the case. I like watches and this one is very unique. The first trouble came when I tried to remove a couple of links to size the band. I've had steel band watches where I was able to remove the pins with a small punch and easily remove links as needed. This watch is next to impossible to remove the pins. Fortunately, I was able to return it to the store and have them remove some links. It took the poor ladies at the store almost 30 minutes to remove a single link.

Job well done with a watch that now fit perfectly, until about 3 days later when I noticed the rubber seal under the back sticking out of one side. Another trip back to the store and the removed the back and found the seal was broken and they didn't have another watch in the case. We ended up going to another location and got a replacement and the lady there was able to remove a few links with quite a struggle, but not nearly as much as the other store.

Now I have a new watch that I love, but I'll have to wait to see how it holds up given the issues I've had so far. The watch does have a 12 year warranty and seems to keep time perfectly as long as you wear it each day to keep it wound or wind it a bit manually.

    [1 Month Update]
I've been wearing the watch almost daily and I love it. It keeps great time and I have not had any further issues with quality on the watch I currently have. I didn't wear it for about 3 days at one point and when I put it on, it needed adjusted but that is to be expected. Self-winding or manual, they need daily attention to keep them wound.

Got this watch just today (from a different retailer, new, for a REALLY good price) and mine is already squeaking when I move it too much. Yes, I removed a link just as a previous reviewer noted. Hopefully this resolves itself quickly (and quietly, pun intended) or I will be contacted the retailer/manufacturer about a replacement.

On the positive side, it DOES look very nice and I expect to wear it for every day as well as special occasions as it seems to fit either style.

Unfortunately, the hands do not contrast well against the face/inner mechanisms so it can often be difficult to discern the time quickly, requiring an extended study of the face to determine where the hands actually are at. This may not seem so from the photo, but perfect lighting aside, this IS an issue.

I am an avid watch wearer, collector, and seller. I rarely write a review because I have so many and see so many I'd be writing for years. I only write for the ones that are worth my time. This watch is not GREAT, it's just good. The reason why I decided to write about it is because mine does something very aggravating to me and the people around me when I wear it. It is VERY LOUD! At first I thought it was the watch band. I took some links out and it sure fit better and some of the metal clinking noise was gone. But only some of it. It seems to be the inner pendulum, the metal piece inside that rocks at certain angles, thus winding it, = automatic mechanism. The watch looks great and it feels good. It does keep time and I can wear it in the shower. It's durable and the weight I would consider medium weight for a watch. I like it, it's worth the money. I have seen this watch go from $30 to over $100. Funny. To me it's worth about $45. I wonder why no one else has posted about this noise problem. It is very annoying. For that it loses a star.

I own several nice men's Fossil brand watches (Relics parent company) and have been happy with all of them.
I'm going to start with the problems, because if a watch doesn't function, then its purely jewelry.
First, the biggest problem is apparently a design flaw that allow moisture to enter the watch. I suspect moisture is entering through the "stem". Once inside, this will cause a fogging effect under the watch face that comes and goes . I have not submerged this watch at all, I have washed my hands with the watch on without running water directly on the watch.
This is the second Relic watch of this style that has done this condensation, the other being a silver banded version of same watch. My wife had to return that one to a local department store. I thought I would give this one another try since I liked the watch concept and looks.
The complete deal breaker is now the watch will not keep time. It will stop after a fews hours even after manually winding the spring.
I did notice the band on the version "squeaks" after a few days of wear. I put a little oil in between the links and it went away.
All in all, the watch had such promise but it falls short in functionality. I think those of us who like the automatic concept would at least want a working watch.
