Brilliant and heavy,
By C'Athy (Christchurch New Zealand) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Relief Through Release (Audio CD)
I stole this cd from an ex-boyfriend, and I've been loving it ever since. The music is so heavy, but the tunes are great and the rhythms fantastic. It's real up-beat metal that is great to mosh to. Tarrie B is a brilliant vocalist, with her deep and beautiful voice, and her amazing screams, but her voice is very different to most females in metal bands at the moment. Her lyrics are very heart-felt, and appropriate for the music: self-depreciating, hating and angry. My favourite tracks are the chunky "Luna," the bouncy "Dry," the solid "Unclean," the angry "Flux" and the almost-beautiful "Omnia Vinat Amor." Buy this record and you will not be dissapointed. This album is a legend.

Awesome,

I love Tairrie B. She's a great songwriter, and can scream and yell bloody murder like there's no tomorrow. I'm a fan of Kittie as well, but I think that every project Tairrie B has been and will be a part of is going to out do anything Kittie will come out with. The music is heavy, yet graceful. Relief Through Release is Tura Satana at their best. The lyrics are so that I can't even think of a word good enough to describe them! This CD will be sure to please if you're into heavy guitars with angry chick screams coming from a very beautiful and talented woman.

First time i heard this band they were called "Manhole" and had a record out called "All is not well".I swear i had that disc in the machine for at least half a year. It's funny what radio picks up on and doesn't pick up on because if Rage, Korn, Bizkit and the like could make it, i don't know why this band couldn't.Well, They changed their name (Legal reasons i read), and put out another record and it's just as strong, if not stronger than "All...". Tairrie B. can out belt any of her contemporaries and the music just kicks all the way through.Even though it looks like the band is no longer, do yourself a favor and buy this disc. While your at it, pick up "All is not well" also.Hopefully we will see a Tairrie B. solo record in the near future."Are Ya Down?...."

Hush little baby, don't you cry...,

What I really like about Tura Satana's "Relief Through Release" is that it appears to close the door of the past while opening the gates of Miss B.'s future; in a way, "Relief" is a creepy omen for My Ruin's "Speak and Destroy." Unlike 1996's "All is Not Well" (which was merely a slice of politcally-charged rap-metal), this second effort has lyrics incorporating iconographic images of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and the horned Devil. Combined with issues of love, sex and self-abuse, such powerful references were what Miss B. chose as a means of battling her own personal demons. Her angry performances are musical exorcisms that would continue on through My Ruin's "Speak and Destroy" and "Prayer Under Pressure." I also must add that she has improved vocally on here; she is much more expressive in her screams, growls, purrs and whispers; some songs signify her as a bruised victim, while in others she is the vamp, a temptress who drives men to their ruin. There are indeed some highlight tracks on this record: my favorites are "Venus Diablo," "Unclean," and "Flux." When I listen to the latter track, I picture in my head Miss B. trussed in a straitjacket, alone in her own padded room. In general, "Relief Through Release" is a decent CD to have in one's collection; it signify's Miss B.'s increasing use of spoken poetry as a legitimate art form.

I've had it up to here (my hand way over my head) with everybody sounding the same. It's nice to here heavy music with female vocals. Especially the SCREAMING VOCALS!!!!(I just hurt my throat) If you're looking for something good with a twist of estrogen, this would be a good time to buy this CD.

I found this cd to be good, but not as good as it could be. I thought the cover of Nirvana's Negative Creep was completely off the hook, Kurt Cobain would have been proud. But I was expecting more from the group, some of the songs sound the same and the lead singer doesn't really show her range which Im sure she has. But overall its good background music to rock out to when you need.

Man-who?? It's Tura Santana this time around, but the same result--great,heavy music. Tairre B.'s screaming vocals backed by an aggressive band makes for a classic hardcore album. People getting sick of tired bands like Korn or Limp Bizkit should check out the real thing and forget the sellouts.
