5.0 out of 5 stars Relient K rox
Relient K is an awsome band. It one of the few CD's that EVERY song is totally cool. A lot of CD's I'll skip to the next song maybe cause I don't like the song or it doesn't have the rythum. But I play this one ALL the way through. I like the way they come up with the craziest things such as "Marilyn Manson ate my girlfriend, talking about the guys girlfriend...

3.0 out of 5 stars A so-so debut for an otherwise phenomenal band.
I am one of the most faithful RK fans you will ever find, so that statement is significant. In comparison with every subsequent CD, their self-titled debut is severely sub-par. While they establish early on their lyrical wordplay and tongue in cheek attitude, the band's musicality is painfully undeveloped at this point. The melodies for the majority of the songs meld into...

Relient K is an awsome band. It one of the few CD's that EVERY song is totally cool. A lot of CD's I'll skip to the next song maybe cause I don't like the song or it doesn't have the rythum. But I play this one ALL the way through. I like the way they come up with the craziest things such as "Marilyn Manson ate my girlfriend, talking about the guys girlfriend turning away from God, "Hello Mcfly", saying they wanna go back to the future to correct their sins. and others like "17 magazine" and "wake up call". The lyrics are very clear and understandable. Although not all the songs have something to do with God or anything spiritual. ex. "Nancy Drew" and "Charles in Charge". This CD isn't actually the "worship God" type. The music is different. Which if you like different, buy it. Heck, buy it anyway. It's worth the money if you're a punk-rock fan. The only thing I don't really care for is how short ALL the songs are.???.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for A Debut CD, August 2, 2005
This review is from: Relient K (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of Relient K ever since this album, but I'm reminded that this IS their debut CD. It's hard not to do, but you can't really compare this CD to Two Lefts or Mmmhmm because the band has evidently (and naturally) grown and matured as a band. While it's not their "best" album, I'd say that, for a debut album, it holds up nicely. I reccommend anything by these guys, especially Mmmhmm!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Awesome Debut CD, August 19, 2005
This review is from: Relient K (Audio CD)
Which is exactly what it is. A DEBUT cd. To all those people that think they sound too "soft" try listening to some of Relient K's newest cd's.

Anyway, I am a huge fan of Relient K. You can hear a definite difference in sound from this cd and Mmhmm. All the songs are fun, the lyrics are good, and the messages are good. There are a lot more God-oriented songs on this cd than on their other ones, but I believe that shows that Relient K is most definitely a Christian Band.

My favorite songs are My Girlfriend, Wake Up Call, Staples, and 17 Magazine. I hope that you listen to them and enjoy them too.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Purchase, August 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Relient K (Audio CD)
I became a fana of Relient K after buying "The Anatomy of The Tounge in Cheek" and just recently purchased their first album. This album has some really solid songs such as "Hello McFly", "Charles in Charge", and "Balloon Ride". However, the song this album is most famous for, "My Girlfriend", is okay, but not close to the best on the album. And while I will still say that "Anatomy..." is a better album all together, I'm not kidding when I say that "17 Magazine" may be the greatest song by a Christian punk band... ever. Overall, a good CD from a good band that can create some catchy riffs and excellent harmonies.

All I can say is...No Relient K CD deserves to get anything less than 5 stars because these guys are the bomb and you're crazy if you don't like them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sound a lot like Blink..., July 12, 2000
By
This review is from: Relient K (Audio CD)
This CD is one of the best I've heard in a while. Matt's vocals sound kinda like a mix of Blink 182's Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus. The guitar riffs and harmonics are very similar to Blink and the drumming is awesome. If you are a fan of good pop-punk you will love this album. The only reason this band will never be as popular as Blink is simply because they are a Christian band, and Christian bands don't get enough pub. This band has some crossover potential however, with tunes like "When You're Around", "Hello McFly", and "Charles in Charge". Look out for this band, cause they rock!

5.0 out of 5 stars Christian musics answer to Blink 182, April 28, 2000

This band is the most talented of the rising punk bands. It has a variety of different types of songs from mellow to hard punk music. They are much more talented than AC DC the typical 3 Chord band. The vocals are simular to MXPX's Mike Herrera but with better vocal harmony. As good as their cd is they are twice as good in concert. Not only are they very talented musically they all also have a great stage presence. I recommend this cd to anyone who likes bands like MXPX, Blink 182, or Value Pac

5.0 out of 5 stars I went on a Balloon Ride and everything is just fine!, July 24, 2000

Listening to this album is definitley a balloon ride. I not only enjoyed the great guitar work, drum work, harmonizing vocals, etc. but the lyrics were what put this album over the top. This isn't too thought provoking but it's enough to make you smile everytime you think about the grace of God and how He is there through the good and bad times. The fun songs are great fun as well. Yeah, it's on the harder edge of music, but even my R&B sisters got hooked on the lyrics after a listen. Good job guys. And kudos once again to Gotee for producing YET ANOTHER great band. But as always, to God be the glory!

5.0 out of 5 stars A really fun and cool cd!!, January 14, 2004
This review is from: Relient K (Audio CD)
Well, I have been a fan of Relient K for a long time but ironically, I bought this cd (which is their debut album) last, in other words "Two lefts..." was the first cd I bought by Relient K. This cd is very different from their latest, but it has the same punky, fun feeling to it. The music is very lively and you will find yourself singing along to it, even if you just bought it, the music just makes you want to sing along. It's great! Some of my favorite songs are "My Girlfriend", which talks about Matt's girlfriend turning away from God and living a life of sin, "Wake Up Call", which Matt sings how Jesus gave him a wake up call, "Softer to Me", which talks about life being hard and cruel. All of the songs on this cd are good but these are my favorites. Matthew Thiessen and Matt Hoopes did a great job of singing on this album, (Thiessen is lead vocals), and Brian Pittman is great on the bass. Cushman, does a decent job on the drums, although I think Dave Douglas, who plays on the later albums, does a better job. All in all, this is a very fun, good cd to listen too, and if you like Relient K's other albums then you will enjoy this one too.
