If you are a serious educator looking to replace the classic BBC Long Search series of films on the world's religions made back in the 80's THIS IS NOT IT. I ordered this series for my college library and I am very disappointed. First of all I must say that only two of the five disks could be read and played on my computer. So this review is based on the episodes titled "Buddhism" and "Eastern Orthodox."

The films are very short, 10-20 minutes, with only part of that time devoted to the religion mentioned in the title. The films were made by the Chicago police department to help educate police who come in contact with religious and ethnic diversity in their daily police duties.

This films have nothing to do with "religions around the world," and everything to do with a few of the diverse religions practiced by people in Chicago. The special concern of the series seems to be informing police and TSA staff how do do their job without unnecessarily offending, by their cultural insensitivity, the the person being searched. For example, the 2nd half of the 20 minutes film on Buddhism, explains that Sikhs with turbans should be examined in a private area, and the same for Muslim women wearing the head scarf. Also male TSA staff shouldn't touch Muslim women, etc. etc. Much of the film is taken up by religious informants explaining how they would like to be treated in TSA airport searches.

I say good for the Chicago police department for wishing to instill greater religious/ethnic sensitivity to their staff. However, if you are searching for films on world religions for use in the college or high school classroom I would advise you to look elsewhere.

The two five-star reviews that I read led me to purchase the series for my institution, or should I say misled me to make the purchase. Superior material is available on You Tube. I will not be using these films in my course on World Religion in the fall.

I don't get into religion a lot, but this series was available at the library and I wanted to preview it. This series gives a brief history about five religions. In this series believers of each faith are interviewed. Individuals that are interviewed through out these programs tell about their faith and how they are perceived in America. The interviews were nice and I learned something new about each religion. This series has a wealth of information and it helped me to understand how different religions are taken into account. I'm glad each program wasn't long because I wanted to know enough about the religion to understand it. This series is a must buy because each program is to the point and to have a DVD collection that cost under one hundred dollars is a good deal!

I heard about this series from my brother who said it was a great set of films. I was very impressed with this series. I just love how each programs shows a little background on each program, but not to much to bore you to death. I know this series would do well in a school so students can see how different religions work.

All five films are around twenty five minutes long. The interviews are filmed well and they catch the true passion each individual feel about their religion. This set is under priced because it was filmed well and each interview was real and not fake are staged. I hope my future films can come close to this set of films.
