5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Delicious and Fun! April 16, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I LOVE this book! First of all - it's absolutely beautiful! The photos are stunning and not only make you drool over the food but give a sneak peak into Daphne's real life and life on The Chew. It's a pleasure just to sit down with it and a cup of tea (which I did tonight for a couple of hours!) and look through the photos!

Next, the food. Daphne is so creative and playful with food. She's not afraid to indulge (um...roasted cauliflower grilled cheese with jalapeno aioli anyone??) while still keeping heath conscious vibe. This book is amazing for both vegetarians and meat eaters. Although most of her yummy offerings are veggie based, shrimp, fish, and chicken do make appearances. I can't wait to substitute the chile jam chicken (with caramelized sweet potatoes and peaches) with tofu.

Then there are the fun and helpful lifestyle tips. Everything from health and exercise to makeup ideas. I'm looking forward to trying the energizing citrus body scrub. She just has so many ideas that are affordable and easy. There's a chapter on The HIp Homemaker, with amazing ideas for parties, decorating, and crafting. There are tips on relationships, family and marriage, as well as what to wear and do while traveling. My favorite suggestion was to make a "happiness list" (she went skydiving!).
Daphne is like the young, hip, and cool Martha Stewart.

I wish I had this book 10 years ago. Oh well. I'll just have to start "Relish"-ing my life now - and adding a whole lot more fun and yum to it! Thanks, Daphne!

5.0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS book!!! April 17, 2013
"Relish" is a game-changer.

I'll admit it - I'm not much of a cook. Most of the cook books I own fall into one of two categories: beautiful "coffee table" books that are fun browse through, or books with decent recipes that I never make because I can't bring myself to open the book...

And then there's "Relish"... This book is inspiring. It's absolutely gorgeous, for starters, but it's not just another compilation of beautiful photographs. The recipes are fantastic as well. (Mostly vegetarian - which is great for me, because I don't eat meat - with a few "meat-eater" options.) My favorites so far (YES - I've already tried a bunch of these!) are the grilled cheese and cauliflower, the veggie burger, and the creamy zucchini soup. Oh, and the grapefruit/thyme spritz is sublime. (Yep, Daphne does cocktails, too.)

Even though this is technically a cook book, I hate to stick it in that category, because it's much more than that. I'd call it a 'lifestyle' book, because it covers everything from relationships with your significant other, to best friends, to living life to the fullest. This is a book you'll want to READ - not just go to for recipes!

2.0 out of 5 stars I really wanted to like it. June 11, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
After reading so many stellar customer reviews, and seeing Daphne cook on Wendy Williams show, I made up my mind to purchase this book. Many reviews complement the actual beauty of this book, and I do agree with them. Yes, there are marvelous pictures of scrumptious looking food, and personal photos of Daphne and her family. I really wanted to like this book, but I regret to say that I am one of the few customers who was disappointed with my purchase. Most of my reviews are very positive; however, Relish by Daphne Oz did not earn a good review.

While some may think of the book as a cookbook, I would deem it a "Lifestyle Book." There are chapters devoted to being a stress free hostess, how to organize your closets, simple make-up advice, what kind of kitchen equipment you ought to have, how to hang a picture. To be honest, I really did not gain any new knowledge...any of these topics has been addressed in any mass market woman's magazine, or even advice form your own family.

Most recipes are multi-step and involve more "gourmet" ingredients. There are some very simple ones such as Chocolate Fudge Pops and Cheesy "Pizza" Broccoli, which frankly are recipes that your friend/family member could have been making already. I didn't need an official recipe to make these.

The first recipe I tried was Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies. First, you are required to process the oats to create a "grainy powder." Mix dry and wet ingredients, yes this is a typical baking technique. Next, you are instructed to form the dough into 2" balls, place on parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze at least two hours, preferably overnight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warm, loving, cool, sexy, delicious, inspiring. April 17, 2013
If I could make this book appear in every home in the world, I would. And I don't say kitchen because it is so much more than a cookbook, thought it is one (and one of the best I've added to an immense library of cookbooks). It is, dare I say, a book about life. And I fully acknowledge how profound that sounds. But it is. Daphne Oz is wise beyond her years and I wish this had been delivered to me when I was in college or younger.

First of all, paging through this book, the look and design is gorgeous and this is just the beginning of the good signs. Her taste in everything is elevated. The book is full of surprises and is authentically inspirational. She is the real deal.

My wife and I are fighting over our copy currently so I just ordered several more for our family and friends. It is full of insight worth sharing.
