Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

From the Award-Winning AUTHOR of The Book of God-- Jesus' Passion, Revisited with the Emotion and Immediacy of a Master Storyteller As only a great storyteller can, Walter Wangerin takes his readers inside the story of Christ's passion. Drawn from the Gospel of Mark, Reliving the Passion translates the events--from the moment when the chief priests plot to kill Jesus to the Resurrection--into the realm of feeling, image, and experience. In richly personal detail, Wangerin helps us recognize our own faces in the streets of Jerusalem; breathe the dark air of Golgotha; and experience, as Mary and Peter did, the bewilderment, the challenge, and the ultimate revelation of knowing the man called Jesus. A perfect devotional for the Lenten season.

From the Author

Walter Wangerin Jr. first came to prominence as the award-winning author of The Book of the Dun Cow. He has since won many other awards and honors for his books, including the best-selling Book of God. Wangerin holds the Jochum Chair at Valparaiso University in Indiana, where he is writer-in-residence

Wangerin's writing style is so refreshing - it brings the story of Christ to life in a new and exciting way. The emotive writing style draws you in as the reader and you cannot put the book away - I read and re-read the crucifixion chapters and came away almost breathless with a renewed sense of what Christ went through for me! The cast of characters that were involved also come to life with all the passion and "realness" of that day.

This powerful book transports the reader to Jesus' last week on earth. Wangerin pulls the reader into the emotion and reality of the crucifixion and the events leading up to it. I felt convicted and moved by the sacrifice made on my behalf in a new way. Highly recommended!

This is my third year to read "Reliving the Passion". It is pure poetry at its finest and Walter Wangerin Jr. transports you back to the days leading up to and through the Passion. Add this book to you library and make it a tradition each year at Lent. Also check out his book for Advent!

This is a series of 40 Lentan devotions--actually very vivid and brilliant insights on the reality of Jesus' dying on the cross. I have a very large library, but I have read nothing better on this theme. I have purchased 6 additional copies as gifts--any will be getting more.

This is the best Lenten devotional we have ever used, and we ordered the copies through Amazon for our children to use. Walter Wabgerin Jr. Is a favorite author of ours, and we also use every year his PREPARING FOR JESUS - an Advent Devotional. We recommend both!

This book is a series of reflections for Lent based on the Passion story in Mark. In a number of places, it gives insights into the characters, adding depth to the Biblical narrative. The authors employs evocative yet readable language that makes it a pleasure to read. Not all the reflections are equally powerfully, but many are good.

Great meditative book written as if the author was right there. Enjoyed his perspective and the short daily devotions were perfect leading up to Easter.

With each day of Lent this author offers you a different meditation on the Passion of Christ. It is written as if you are a witness to the events. I will be reading it again next year for Lent, and many years to come.
