I could not put this book down - prepare to be changed!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Reliving the Passion (Hardcover)
Wangerin's writing style is so refreshing - it brings the story of Christ to life in a new and exciting way. The emotive writing style draws you in as the reader and you cannot put the book away - I read and re-read the crucifixion chapters and came away almost breathless with a renewed sense of what Christ went through for me! The cast of characters that were involved also come to life with all the passion and "realness" of that day.

A "must-read" for all Christians and skeptics,
By A Customer
This review is from: Reliving the Passion (Hardcover)
This powerful book transports the reader to Jesus' last week on earth. Wangerin pulls the reader into the emotion and reality of the crucifixion and the events leading up to it. I felt convicted and moved by the sacrifice made on my behalf in a new way. Highly recommended!

Pure Poetry,

This is my third year to read "Reliving the Passion". It is pure poetry at its finest and Walter Wangerin Jr. transports you back to the days leading up to and through the Passion. Add this book to you library and make it a tradition each year at Lent. Also check out his book for Advent!

Making the Cross Real,

This review is from: Reliving the Passion (Hardcover)
This is a series of 40 Lentan devotions--actually very vivid and brilliant insights on the reality of Jesus' dying on the cross. I have a very large library, but I have read nothing better on this theme. I have purchased 6 additional copies as gifts--any will be getting more.

Reliving the Passion,
By Disciple "Sharon" (West Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Reliving the Passion (Hardcover)
This book was suggested as a good devotional for Lent. I agree; it is great. Mr Wangerin has a way of seeing the events of Holy Week as told in the Gospel of Mark with new eyes. I look forward to each day's reading for the new light he shines on it. Because Sundays are not counted in the 40 days of Lent, there are writings for Monday through Saturday.
The scripture is printed before each day's devotional writing, so there is no need to have a Bible alongside it. This is the best devotion for Lent I have used.

This is one of Wangerin's best written pieces. It takes the reader through the Passion of Christ in a way that will not leave you the same. His perspective is from the individuals who were witnesses to the Passion, seen in ways that seem new, but very real. I have gone through this book several times over the years, but this year, made it my Lenten discipline. Reading each day's story, every day, put me there and gives me a greater joy and understanding of how God loves us. I have read no other work that makes Christ's suffering so personally felt. Wangerin is a master story teller and he has made the old, old story very, very new and meaningful.

The Right focus on Jesus at Easter,

This review is from: Reliving the Passion (Hardcover)
I have been reading this book each lenten season since 1998. It helps to direct your thoughts to what Christ did for you on the cross. By the time Easter arrives, you are in a proper frame of mind, ready to worship and praise God for what he has done for us. I buy more copies each year to give away. Walter Wangerin has also written another book for the advent season, called Preparing for Jesus. The daily readings remind me of the One I am celebrating.

A journey not to be missed!,

This review is from: Reliving the Passion (Hardcover)
If you truly desire to re-live this time in Jesus' life, to get in touch at a deeper level and not just re-read the Passion story mindlessly, this book is a must for each and every Lent season. It will help you connect in a unique, meaningful way as Wangerin draws you into not only the days leading up to Easter, but also into specific moments giving you room to linger in them. It is best read as he suggests - unhurried and one reading per day starting with Ash Wednesday through to Easter. This is, indeed, a journey not to be missed!

Reliving the Passion
This is one of the best Lenten Devotionals that I have ever used. Each year it brings something fresh to me as each year I am in a slightly different place than I was the previous year. Do you remember when you were a child and the Bible stories were alive and you could put yourselves in them? This takes you back to that place. I highly recommend this book and have given copies to several of my friends. God bless all of you. May this book help you on your Lenten Journey. |
