4.0 out of 5 stars New Plankeye duo is excellent.
I will admit I am usually not a fan of soft rock. But I bought Relocation (Plankeye's first album since the departure of Scott Silleta) on a whim. To be completely honest with you I was not much more than midly amused when I first popped it in my CD player. I will admit I am usually not a fan of soft rock. But I bought Relocation (Plankeye's first album since the departure of Scott Silleta) on a whim. To be completely honest with you I was not much more than midly amused when I first popped it in my CD player. However as I listened to each song more and more, I realized how talented Eric and Luis really are, and how flat out relaxing and enjoyable it is to listen to them sing and play their instruments. I definately like their vocals more than Scott Silleta's, they kinda have more of a melodic and overall talented feel to them. Relocation also has a good variety of the good 'ol alternative rock songs combined with some amazingly beautiful slow songs that can seriously grab your heart. Stand out tracks are- "Can't Complain," "Goodbye," "Honey and Oil," "Call Me Liar," and "Break My Fall."

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Plankeye, April 4, 2005
This review is from: Relocation (Audio CD)
Okay, so Plankeye did go through a slight evolution of sound when Scott Silletta (original guitariast and lead vocalist) and Adam Ferry (original drummer) left; this album is a little softer then some past Plankeye stuff, but honestly I felt a little bit of this trend from previous album (The One and Only). But I was always drawn to Plankeye because (1)their deep, impactful lyrics (the songs always say something very important in a lyrically beautiful way) and (2) their musical unpredictability (the songs don't follow the traditional verse, chorus, verse, chorus format, and the instruments never do what pop musicians have trained the listener to expect). Those important elements are still present in Relocation. Not only that, but Eric Balmer and Luis Garcia are obviously talented musicians and songwriters who made obvious contributions to all the previous albums as well as this one. Their efforts should not be belittled or discounted because some people wish to live in a static world where every band sounds exactly the same from album to album.

This album has a lot to offer. "I Can't Complain" and "Indivisble" are great, thoughtful songs with steady rhythms. "You Are For Me" is a beautifully simple love song. "Say Now That You're Sorry" is upbeat and fun with some solid advice for relationships. "When It Comes" is kind of like a love song for the listener. And "Goodbye" is of course awesome, a ballad anthem for life changes. Maybe you aren't getting the solid grunge with the occasionally seasoning of blues that was prevalent in albums like "Spill" and "The Spark" (though "Break of Dawn" and "You Got It" are pretty good throwbacks to classic Plankeye), but what Plankeye stands for -faith, love, creativity,etc.- did not change when Scott and Adam moved on to other things.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Christian Album, August 3, 2000
This review is from: Relocation (Audio CD)
I LOVE this album. I have listened to it over and over and over...when I'm sad, when I'm elated, when I'm bored, when I'm lonely. I listen to it all the way through and then start it back over. I can't get enough of Eric Balmer's voice, Luis Garcia's bass lines, and the sweet, sentimental lyrics on songs such as "Goodbye", "Break My Fall", "Indivisible", and "You Are For Me". I see that Amazon.com has some clips from the first five songs. Listen to all of them, and judge for yourself; but I promise you, this is the best album in my Christian music library and every song is as good as the last. 5 stars!

4.0 out of 5 stars I like this CD..., February 9, 2005
This review is from: Relocation (Audio CD)
I know many people don't like this CD because it is not the the whole band but there is something about this CD that is good if you look past the fact it is only two of them. I loved the whole band Plankeye too and I love this CD. Although I would never claim it to be my favorite I do enjoy it. I bought it mostly for the song Goodbye because I really liked watching the whole band perform it live before it was just the two members. I ended up actually liking the rest of the CD. I think you have to get over the fact it is not a rock CD it is a softer Plankeye for contemporary. Listen to the clips or try and get your hands on it before you buy it becuase I think this may be one CD people like or dislike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awwe, good times good times, April 30, 2004

So this CD is wonderful..I forgot about the song "Goodbye" until I heard it again watching an online commercial for the last episodes of FRIENDS.. It made me really upset..Normally I would not be sad over a TV show ending..It happens all the time..But the song "Goodbye" made me feel like a part of my heart was being stolen from a sitcom? Listen to the sample..It lasts 29 seconds..But you'll wish you had a soundtrack to your life and "Goodbye" was the song played during the end titles.. Of course this is just one of the songs on this CD... the rest I feel just as passionate about

Being "Relocated" the band sure showed listeners what they were capable minus the previous lead singer Scott Silleta. I won't say whether Plankeye is better with or without him becuase the music in my view changed with his departure. Luis and Eric had sensational moments on songs like "Call Me a Liar" and "Goodbye". I say without doubt that Relocation is a must have on my list of great music.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Something woke me up...", March 11, 2000

Blessed be a band who is so great musically talented and yet so humble. They actually thanked us for coming to their concert; and were truly sincere. The albumn is totally infectious and definately marketable to the masses (alt-pop 3rd<e>blInd-style). Sing-scream me a song and mean it! And the boys DO meant it! The songs have a strong singable hook to them and beautiful melodies. "Goodbye" has become one of my top 10 favorite songs - EVER! It's a song about letting go of this life to embrace a life greater than we could ever imagine; easy-flowing at first then built up into a raw sing-scream overture with a soft landing in the realization that "death takes many forms even while alive" Thank you to Plankeye for a rockin' beautiful expression of God and His Love and a excellent show in Roanoke, VA with Pax 217. Peace, Love and God Bless you all, xandershanks

4.0 out of 5 stars A step in a new direction...., February 9, 2000
This review is from: Relocation (Audio CD)
The opening of "Say Now that You're Sorry" recalls it's previous counterpart from "The One and Only", the opener "Someday". This provides a nice intro into Plank Eye's first effort as a duo, (bassist Luis Garcia and guitarist Eric Balmer remain), which takes few musical sidesteps, from previous Plank Eye recordings. "Honey and Oil" begins with a driving rhythm, lessens a bit in the verse, turns into a smoother modern pop chorus, and throws the driving rhythm back in for good measure. Mid-tempo "I Can't Complain", spunky "You Got It", and forceful "Break of Dawn" are all examples of the straight-ahead, no-surprises modern rock on the record. ""Break My Fall", with it's rainy-day lyrics and musical balladry, is one of the high points. But "Indivisible" is my favorite, and maybe even the best of all the Plank Eye songs. The poetic storytelling, encouraging bridge, sweeping keyboards and wonderful arrangement make for a brilliant track, and feature of this CD. Hopefully the band doesn't stop here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plankeye Proves that Silleta was Only Holding Them Back, September 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Relocation (Audio CD)
When former Plankeye frontman, Scott Silleta, announced that he was leaving the band along with it's long time drummer,Adam Ferry, many thought that Plankeye was history. But Luis Garcia and Eric Balmer, the bands guitarists, set out to prove otherwise. The result: Plankeye's best and and most accesible album to date, RELOCATION. This effort proves several things: A. Silleta was only part of Plankeye, not the whole band. B. Scott wasn't the only member of the eye that could sing. On Relocation, both Balmer and Garcia prove their vocal capabilities while creating a pop album that as at least addictive, and at most revolutionary. starting the album with SAY NOW THAT YOU ARE SORRY, the duo wastes no time proving their knack for catchy hooks and irresistable sing-along. The album moves right along with a Third-Eye-Blind vibe, most seen in the "doo, doo ,doo's " and the boys knack for yelling with passion at the most crucial moments. Overall, RELOCATION needs to be in every pop fans collection. Don't underestimate the power of the EYE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Overall a great CD, December 4, 1999

After hearing The One And Only I thought Plankeye could do no better especially without half of their band. But songs like I Can't Complain, You Got It and Say Now That You're Sorry changed my mind completely. Relocation was above and beyond the level of expectation that I had after an incredible One And Only cd
