Thought-provoking speculative fiction,
By A Customer
This review is from: Reluctant Voyagers (Mass Market Paperback)
Vornarburg's book, translated by Jane Brierly, is a satisfying, thought-provoking journey into multiple alternative realities. I loved it! It starts off a bit slow, but it's worth sticking it out through the first few chapters as you, along with the main character, slowly begin to get your bearings in a world subtly off-kilter. The questions raised are answered, but in thouroughly unexpected ways. It's not really fantasy, not really sci-fi-- rather, it fits solidly into the realms of speculative fiction, the kind that truly makes the world strange.

Reality isn't real, but then what is ? Handle with CARE.,

The world isn't always what it seems (is it ever ?)
This tale brings the story of Katherine who finds herself in
a world that can't be true, yet insists on existing. Is the
world unraveling, or is it only you, because you it is, pulled
right into the story by the sheer force of Vonarburgs'
beautiful style. Have you ever doubted your sanity !? then
you'll understand what Katherine is going through, if you
haven't, hold on tight for the ride of your life. You just
might need that straight jacket (not included), by the time
you put this book down, or you might have a much clearer
view of the world. Comes with an ending that will blow you down.
