5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Account of Tiananmen Square, July 23, 2009
This review is from: Remaking Beijing: Tiananmen Square and the Creation of a Political Space (Paperback)
An unparalleled up-close account of one single space in Beijing by one of the most accomplished art historians of our time. An exciting book, richly illustrated, and cogently argued. The public events, political history, personal lives lost and found, and bold artistic experiments all come to life in this book. A must read for any one looking for in-depth knowledge of Beijing. Chapter 3 (on displaying the people) and chapter 4 (on drum tower and the "Hong Kong Clock"), in particular, explores new dimensions of the notion of monumentality that Wu Hung has developed in his other books.
