Got this in the mail yesterday, and for the price and quality it can't be beat! Our living room rug was full of stains (mostly spilled drinks) and all the stains came out. We would have spent way more to RENT a steam cleaner from the grocery store. I have no complaints about this product and am so glad I read the positive comments from the other reviewers because they are so correct! I was worried about the item being refurbished but it works as new and looks like new and is half the price of new! Very lightweight and easy to manage filling, pushing, and cleanup afterwards.

Works Great,
This review is from: Remanufactured Bissell 1970R QuickSteamer Lightweight Deep Cleaner (Kitchen)
I've had two full size steamers in the past. A Hoover, and a Bissel Pro-Heat. The Quicksteamer did just as good of a job on my carpets as those two did (my carpets were heavily soiled when using each machine by the way). The only difference is the full size machines cost over 200 and this cost 69.99.
Actually, the only advantage the full size machines had, was bigger tanks. That's it. So, if you don't mind refilling a little more often (actually refilling more often keeps the water hotter), then this machine will do just fine.

I chose this Bissell based on the weight and the low, low price. I was so happy after using it the first week that I recommended it to a family member, and ordered another one for her (I think it was $6 more at that time-I had purchased it at $42.99). Because the price was so low, I wasn't expecting it to work as well as it does. It even brought up a lot of dirt from our berber carpet. I had specifically bought it to clean up the berber due to baby formula stains that had been set in for a while. Again, because of the low price, and how long the stains had been there, I was not expecting any miracles. But, I'm happy to report, that the carpet looks new to me again (it's about 1.5 years old).
As far as the weight is concerned, I did have some back issues following the days I got a little too zealous in how much area I cleaned. However, this little cleaner weighs less than half the weight of my vacuum cleaner! With lower back/disk problems, I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to use the bigger, higher-priced machines. I'm glad to report I won't have to with this great find. The only thing I have found that might present a slight problem is the cap that has to be removed to fill the clean water tank. It might be difficult for someone with arthritis or limited dexterity in his/her hands to remove. I found that it's best to just turn it slightly, and then it's not as hard to unscrew it when it's time to refill the tank. I'm not scientifically-minded in the least; but, perhaps, the cap tightens from pressure as the water is going into the cleaner. I still rate the QuickSteamer 5 stars.

I guess when you buy a remanufactured you take the risk that whatever the reason it was returned was not really fixed.
My machine won't spray. I called the company - lousy experience - had to insisted on a supervisor to get a civilized person to assist me. The first thing they will tell you is to check that the tank is full - duh- I just got it all full and ready to use. Then they tell you to take out the full tank and check the bottom of the tank - Bad advice. If you turn it upside down to check the bottom, YOU get sprayed all over, because there is a 'vent hole' near the top of the tank. You need to lay it sideways, with the vent hole facing up - something they don't know anything about. The bottom line is everything is where it should be, but nothing sprays out. Then they say that if you take it in and it is a problem with the machine (hint that it still must just be 'customer error') then you won't get charged for its being fixed while it is under warranty. Cheap price, cheap help, cheap vacuum.

I bought this as a mini steam cleaner to pick up after small stains and pets.
Seeing the unit with the big "CROSS ACTION BRUSH" painted on the front made me think I had found the right product. So I bought it. A week later my dog had an accident. I thought I had it covered. Imagine my surprise on my first use when the cross action brush had absolutely no "action." At first I thought it was defective, maybe a broken belt or something. Then I turned it over and examined the brush. No mechanism at all to make the brush "cross action." I went on the internet to learn from other disappointed buyers the brush indeed does not move! In fact their is nothing to apply pressure to the brush either either, the brush basically just floats above the carpet and is just for looks! The sprayer itself is also flawed. It uses gravity to pull the water down, but if theres a bubble it stops spraying. The spray is also very light. You are basically only misting your carpet and sucking some of that back up. Needless to say this did nothing to clean up my stain. All this unit does is lightly squirt expensive bissell fluid on the carpet and marginally suck some of that back up. I am going to try to return. Else this was a very expensive mistake. I also wish to complain that the FOUR and FIVE star reviews on this site are obviously fakes. I cannot see how even the most ignorant person could think this actually cleans carpets or removes stains.

A Quality Steamer For A Pittance,

I purchased this Bissel QuickSteamer about six weeks ago. I purchased it specifically due to our incontinent beagle. I have used the big $400 carpet cleaners before, and while this little Bissel is not in the same league, it still is a very good cleaner. And worth much more than its meager $55 price tag.
It is light, easy to use, and even comes with a bottle of carpet shampoo. You fill the little container up with hot water, add some cleaner, slap it into the steamer body and you're ready to clean up your carpet. Just squeeze the trigger on the handle to squirt out the cleaner and let it go for it to be kind of sucked back into the steamer. Now if you have a massive 3,000 square foot house then obviously this steamer is not for you. But for working in smaller carpeted areas and rooms, this is perfect. If you want to clean an entire room's carpet extremely well, you may have to re-fill the water/shampoo cannister once or twice. But the re-fill process is quick and the emptying of the dirty water only takes a moment, so this really isn't a problem at all. This steamer isn't designed for huge jobs. The only problem I've ran into is that if you do not fill up the cannister to the "fill line" when you begin your cleaning, the trigger button may not work. I looked at the troubleshooting on the Bissel website and it says that the steamer functions on a "gravity process" or something of that nature, and that the steamer needs filled completely to get the whole gravity thing going. So, when you start make sure its filled completely. Anyways, for the super-low price and the steamer's excellent performance, I can't imagine that you could find a better machine for a better price. This is an excellent product that I'd highly recommend to anyone.

I recieved my bissell and was very excited it was easy to put together and use. But after about half an hour of use it broke it started steaming and made a terrible noise. I did call bissell and they are replacing it. They did not even hesitate in replacing it when I told them what was wrong they were very nice. The product was doing a great job for the time it worked and even though it borke I am not to upset because they are not ripping me off and are sending me a new steam cleaner. The only reason I gave them 3 stars is because it did break but everything else was fine.

I don't know if I just got a bad one or what. The water trigger doesn't spray so I used my little green machine to spray the rug down & then used the quicksteamer to suck up the cleaner, well it sucked up maybe 1/8 of the amount that I put down. And the brush does absolutely no good at all, it doesn't agitate as advertised. You have to turn the unit off and then push it back and forth to scrub, and there is no pressure applied by the brush because it is mounted such that it slides vertically up and down. The rug looked pretty much the same as before I started, well it did suck up some pet hair that the vaccum missed but that's about all it did. I ended up spraying and scrubing the rug w/ my little green machine and finally ended up sucking up the excess water/cleaner w/ it too. This is a piece of garbage as far as I'm concerned and it is going back. I'll order a Hoover w/ a rotating scrub brush and maybe internal heater.

I bought this because the ratings were quite good considering the price. First of all ... if you are looking for something that will help remove spots .. consider something else!!!! I went over and over and over spots, and they still remain. I realize that this is not a "spot bot", although a steam cleaner should definitely take care of the problem -- especially onne with rotating brushes. Secondly, the tank is extremely small. It is about 1/4 of the size of cleaners that you rent from the store. I thought that I wouldn't be too upset if it didn't work as expected, although now that I have it, I definitely am! I would not recommend buying it for even $10.00 (which is $9.99 too much)!

Not "Remanufactured to like-new condition",
This review is from: Remanufactured Bissell 1970R QuickSteamer Lightweight Deep Cleaner (Kitchen)
One of the three assembly screwed provided was the wrong type. There was another lose screw rattling around inside the suction part, which had an odor of mold and mildew. Seeing how it's $10 cheaper than the new, current model (1770), I figured that's the price you pay. I got the loose screw out and put the thing together.
It does seem to do its job, but the whole room reeked of mold and mildew afterwards. I had to leave the house that night and it was still there the next day. Unacceptible!! I returned it and am getting the 1770. Like I said, it's only $10 more, and I don't have to worry about what the previous owner used it for. The 1960 does have more power (4 amp motor vs 3 amp for the 1770), but I have no faith in the "remanufacturing" process to provide a safe and sanitary product. |
