Designed for home or home office use, the remanufactured HL-2040 laser printer is an affordable option for both Windows and Mac users. The printer features a compact, space-saving design that fits in virtually any workspace, along with a generous 250-sheet paper capacity and an innovative Web-based user support system. More importantly, the device, which employs traditional black-and-white laser technology, prints at a speedy 20 pages per minute, with a resolution as high as 2,400 x 600 dpi in HQ mode. As a result, both text and grayscale images look remarkably sharp and crisp, making the printer appropriate for everything from multimedia projects to professional business presentations.

The printer connects to computers through both serial and USB interfaces and comes with 8 MB of standard memory. Users will also appreciate such extras as a toner saver mode, which is ideal for general office use (as opposed to graphics-intensive projects); an initial print speed of less than 10 seconds; and an output paper capacity of 100 sheets. Additional features include a sheet weight of 16 to 28 pounds for the standard paper tray, a weight of 16 to 43 pounds when fed through the single-sheet manual bypass, and Energy Star compliance. The printer measures a svelte 14.6 by 6.5 by 14.2 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.

This printer has done exceptionally well on all of the jobs I have had it do thus far. Printing is fast, I can leave it on all the time, and it was simple to network with my AirPort. This is also one of the few printers that actually comes with good Mac drivers for older systems and because of that, I was quite pleased. My only small gripe (which is more of a gripe to the entire printer industry) is the fact that they do not ship with a USB-A to USB-B adapter so you have to buy one or use your old zip drive's or camera's. All in all, for a black and white printer, it can't be beat in price or quality. Refurbished or not.

Great printer. Refurb. in description, but not in appearance. Good print quality and excellent speed. Don't think there's a better printer near this price range.
