5.0 out of 5 stars I Love This Vacuum
I bought this vacuum earlier this year... This is the top of the line Hoover Bag type vacuum. I absolutely love it. I don't think you can find a better vacuum for anywhere near the price. Un-remanufactured, these sell for $250-$300. As far as I can tell it is exactly the same as the Model U6439-900 that is shown on Hoover's website.

3.0 out of 5 stars not bad, but no high-end machine, and LOUD!
Well, based on the Consumer Reports review, I thought I was getting a top of the line machine. Not so. For the low price, I didn't mind the remanufactured aspect, but I did expect something somewhat better. The suction is decent, the on-board hose is ridiculously short - it stretches to 6 feet but that drags the machine with it or topples it. But my biggest problem is how...

Before I ordered it, I was a little skeptical of the "remanufactured" aspect. I was worried that the vacuum would be dirty or scratched up. The one I received looked as if it was brand new! There was no evidence it had ever been used.

This vacuum has outstanding suction. It includes the "dirt sensor" which tells you if there is any dirt being picked up. I first thought that this was a gimick, but it really does work. The vacuum also includes the powered hand tool which has its own rotating brush. One nice feature is that you can turn the main powered brush off when vacuuming hard floors. You can't turn off the powered brush on most cheap vacuums. The self propelled feature really works well on hard floors and short pile carpets.

The only negative comment I can give this vacuum is that the hose is too short to reach very far away from the machine when using the hand tools. Hoover makes an extension hose that I will probably have to buy.

I highly recommend it!

But my biggest problem is how freaking LOUD it is. It sounds like you're in an airport hangar! It is so loud that you can't hear the phone ring when standing next to it! My old (and hard to get bags for) Riccar whispers in comparison. Had I tested this in a store, I would not have made the purchase, based on noise alone and the absurdly short hose. I am considering buying the extended hose, which is 15 feet (advertised as -reaching- 20 feet WITH the wands and crevice tool) but if it's as tightly wound as this one, it won't be much better.

Still, if you don't mind the roar, it's a good vacuum for the remanufactured price, along with Amazon's extra $25 off sale and free shipping. I'm keeping it as a backup for upstairs and using my 15 yr old Riccar whenever I can.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am impressed!, April 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Remanufactured Hoover U64019RM WindTunnel Self-Propelled Bagged Upright, Color May Vary (Kitchen)
I love my WindTunnel! I wanted to write a review right away but decided i would give this vacuum cleaner the run for the money first, on our 6 bedroom home, 2 dogs.. (woah). I have had it for 6 months now.. time for the review!

The suction is A+ great, and the noise complained about by other reviews is nothing unusually loud - when i turn on a vacuum cleaner i expect to hear it =). I have never seen a silent vacuum cleaner.

The self-propelled feature is marvelous, and removes the strain of vacuuming large areas. One of my favorite features (my back no longer cries for mercy).

The hose - i have read some complaints about the short hose.
Here is my take on it:
The hose is a perfect length. Its tight and secures to the body neatly and does not bulk down the easiness of vacuuming with a vacuum with a hose built into its body. The attachment tubing (there are two), fit neatly on the side, securely, too, i might add, are very appropriate for lengthening the hose when needed, to reach the hard to get areas close to the ceiling, or behind large furniture.
I honestly would never by a vacuum cleaner with a build in hose that is longer than what this vacuum is equipped with. Would you want to tote along a huge hose every time you pulled out the vacuum? the length is perfect, and fits snugly to the body.. a longer length would be constantly falling off the body, and be a bulky pain in the butt. The hose plus the two tube attachments is very sufficient for my needs.
(There is an extra-long attachment hose which can be purchased separately, and i love that it does not come attached to the vacuum and that it can be stored separately from the main body of the vacuum.)

The design of this vacuum, concerning the hose, is perfect - I am still trying to imagine vacuuming with a built-in 20 ft hose - as seems the wishes of some!

The bags are excellent quality, very large, easy and neat to change, no dusty residue left behind. (I purchased them on Amazon, too).

The detector-lights feature that let you know when the vacuum is not accumulating any more dirt from an area you are vacuuming is awesome -love this feature.

Over-all:
the performance is very satisfactory.. i would expect to get this type of performance and well thought out design from nothing less than a $500+ vacuum.

The over-all design is magnificent- obviously very well thought through and tested for the consumers' needs.

Okay, Ladies and Gentlemen - Here it is: the WindTunnel was not just created to be another fast way to the money of consumers. The Wind Tunnel comes through with flying colors on everything it promises to consumers. Its got what I want - no bulkiness, no baggage, very good quality, eficent design, very good price.
I am very pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best portable vacuum cleaner I have used, October 14, 2007
This review is from: Remanufactured Hoover U64019RM WindTunnel Self-Propelled Bagged Upright, Color May Vary (Kitchen)
I have had a refurbished Hoover self-propelled Windtunnel for two years and have had no problems with it. It does a remarkable job of cleaning floors as well as carpets and the built-in hose and turbo nozzle are excellent at cleaning stairs. I have used the tools to vacuum under beds, to clean drapes and upholstery, to clean the coils on the refrigerator and to reach inside the floor ducts. Lots of suction - the machine doesn't lose suction until the bag is crammed full.

The machine is heavy, although not as heavy as a Kirby and fairly easy to carry up and down stairs. I do suggest buying an extension hose; the on-board hose is short and it's hard to reach high places without an extension.

My last vacuum cleaner was a built-in model and I have always found portable vacuums to be wimpy, but the Hoover isn't. If you can put up with the weight I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice vacuum, January 31, 2008
This review is from: Remanufactured Hoover U64019RM WindTunnel Self-Propelled Bagged Upright, Color May Vary (Kitchen)
My refurb arrived with some of its parts new and covered in that new clear plastic film. The handle and lower portion seems to be from a lightly used vacuum. The roller brush appears new. Here is what I have found after three days of usage:
Pros:
Cleans carpets very well.
Tool suction is strong.
Long cord is great.
Pet hair spinning brush attachment works well.
Bagged vacuum is nice (bagless just too messy/dusty for me)

Cons:
Short hose.
Heavy/bulky (have been using an oreck xl)
On/off switch for both power and self propelled feature are flimsy, they stick and are sometimes hard to engage/disengage.
When I turn self propelled feature off it stays slightly engaged.
Doesn't have a huge amount of suction on wood floors, but gets the job done.

Overall, for $49 shipped this is a very good deal. If it lasts a year we will be happy. Hopefully it will run longer. I just wish someone would make a good durable vacuum at a decent price. Even my Oreck commercial is falling apart and throwing dust everywhere after only 1.5 years.

After 20 years of great service, my old Hoover got something fatal stuck in its motor. I couldn't fix it so decided it was time for a new machine. I looked at Walmart and Lowes and all of them were bagless. I just don't get that. Ew! Then I read about Hoovers on-line and discovered the remanufactured Hoover U64019RM WindTunnel. After reading reviews here I decided to give it a try. All I can say is, WOW! What more could you ever want in a vacuum? This thing does it all. The self-propelled feature is really cool and hugs baseboards and furniture. The edge cleaning device is extremely effective. It works great on hard floors and doesn't spit out stuff it's suppose to suck up. I am totally amazed. Granted, my point of reference is a 20-year old model, but all I can say is that they've come a long way in the design of these things. The on-board attachments are awesome and stay on securely. And the hose, plus extension wands, is plenty long to reach a ceiling fan. And I LOVE that apholstery cleaner. It easily captures cat and dog hair.

I'll write back if this thing fails after repeated use, but it doesn't seem likely. It's solid like a rock and I anticipate many years of service from it. Thank you, Hoover, as well as Amazon!

For the price, works great.

Buy a bag of extra belts, when they are "glazed", the machine is hard to move. Put a new one in every year, even if it works ok.
Go out on eBay and buy a case of bags, because they do not hold much.
Buy extra rocker switches for the power on/off because they do not last long. Very easy to replace - no soldering or wire nuts required. Remove 6 screws for access.

The unit is light & easy to operate otherwise. Nice that you do not get dust in your face when operating :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Remanufactured Hoover Upright Windtunnel Self Propelled Vacuum, April 29, 2009
This review is from: Remanufactured Hoover U64019RM WindTunnel Self-Propelled Bagged Upright, Color May Vary (Kitchen)
I owned one of these vacuums before but it was bought brand new. I loved it, but after 10 years it broke. I was on Amazon and found a remanufactured one. I read the reviews and decided to buy it. My vacuum is like brand new, runs like a jewel, it is not too loud for me because all vacuums are sort of loud. The hose is short but I ordered the 20ft. hose, and I have no complaints. Suction is great and carpet is clean. Received my vacuum in about a week. Highly recomend this item.

This sweeper preforms so well you will want to sweep everyday. A self-propelled is a must for people with musculoskeletal problems.
