Magellan RoadMate 360 Has Never Failed Even in a Crazy City Like Seattle!, May 30, 2006
This review is from: Remanufactured Magellan RoadMate 360 Vehicle GPS with Windshield Mount (Office Product)
I love this little Magellan RoadMate and use it all the time! I go to tons of yard and estate sales and this map gets me perfectly every week! I use this map at least 10 to 15 times weekly if not more. The streets in Seattle and surrounding areas are complicated and I think very confusing. The map has never failed to get me to the destination.
I have never read the directions so it took me awhile to really figure it out. It also saves previous destinations as I am sure all of them do.
You must always make SURE you have the antennae up! Otherwise it will take forever to compute. It may not always calculate the absolute shortest time but if you have ever driven in Seattle, it is amazing that the map can even find it's way around. You can also search for certain stores, and other destinations as well. It will bring places you type in such as a certain grocery store, a certain coffee shop etc.
I have never used a more expensive GPS system but as I mentioned, I use this map probably a lot more than most people and it works without a hitch. It is a fabulous system for the price.

Great GPS for the money, September 5, 2006
This review is from: Remanufactured Magellan RoadMate 360 Vehicle GPS with Windshield Mount (Office Product)
I bought this remanufactured Magellan RoadMate 360 after I used a hertz rental car with a similar GPS on a vacation a few months ago. I had always thought that GPS systems seemed neat, but wasn't sure if they were worth their price tag (usualy the "cheap" ones run in $500 - $600 range).
After I used the GPS in our rental car, I was sold, it was so handy to have, and made driving basically stress free. I'm not sure what model the rental car had, but the RoadMate 360 has a very similar interface, but I think it's better than the rental car GPS (for one, it has a touchscreen, that alone is so much better).
After our GPS arrived, I got my first chance to really test it out by going on a weekend trip out of town with my wife. Even though I actually did know how to get to the city we were traveling to, I used the GPS to get me there. Once in the city though, it did a great job of getting me to the hotel and then to all of our activities the next day.
I have heard others complain that the unit has a hard time with numbered addresses (like 72nd street), but I used it in Utah which has basically nothing but numbered addresses, and I found all of them fine (the trick is to enter just the number, and then select from the list whether it's north, east, south, or west after).
I am very impressed with the unit. The screen is nice and bright, the instructions are loud and clear, the voice is pleasant and not harsh, and the directions have been spot on and reliable.
I guess if I had to find a con, it might be the POI (Points of Interest) database. As others have noted in other reviews, because this comes with the maps for all of U.S., Canada, and Peurto Rico, they had to slim down the POI database. There are still 2 million POI's, which is a lot, but when you consider that's for all of those regions, it can be pretty sparse. I did find that it had many useful and helpful POIs though, and was able to find a few malls and restaurants I wouldn't have found otherwise.
I would also like to note that I found a firmware upgrade for these units on Magellans website, but my remanufactured unit (and another remanufactured unit that my parents bought) came with the latest firmware already installed, so that was a nice bonus. If you are having problems with your RoadMate 360, I would suggest that you make sure you have the latest firmware updated on your unit before making a review.
Another thing I would note, I was actually pleasently surprised with how much I liked the windshield mount. I really thought it was not going to work as well as it did (I figured it would get in the way and be a cheap flimsy suction cup that I left in the box and found a different way to mount the GPS). It is well made and forms a very strong suction to the windsheild, and did not get in the way at all.
Obviously, as is with any GPS, these can not completely rule out your own common sense, but if you use a GPS understanding it's limiations, they are wonderul machines.
My overall experience with this unit has been very positive. I am very happy about my purchase, and think it's an incredible value at this remanufactured price.
