5.0 out of 5 stars Magellan RoadMate 360 Has Never Failed Even in a Crazy City Like Seattle!
I love this little Magellan RoadMate and use it all the time! I go to tons of yard and estate sales and this map gets me perfectly every week! I use this map at least 10 to 15 times weekly if not more. The streets in Seattle and surrounding areas are complicated and I think very confusing. The map has never failed to get me to the destination.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not up to par with other Magellans
I have had a few GPS units in my car. My last a Magellan 700 roadmate was stolen from my car and so I decided to get this unit.

I think Magellan makes the best GPS system. The software is well designed and easy to read on the move.

This 360 model falls short and if this was my first Magellan I would never have tried them again. First off...

I have never read the directions so it took me awhile to really figure it out. It also saves previous destinations as I am sure all of them do.

You must always make SURE you have the antennae up! Otherwise it will take forever to compute. It may not always calculate the absolute shortest time but if you have ever driven in Seattle, it is amazing that the map can even find it's way around. You can also search for certain stores, and other destinations as well. It will bring places you type in such as a certain grocery store, a certain coffee shop etc.

I have never used a more expensive GPS system but as I mentioned, I use this map probably a lot more than most people and it works without a hitch. It is a fabulous system for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great GPS for the money, September 5, 2006

I bought this remanufactured Magellan RoadMate 360 after I used a hertz rental car with a similar GPS on a vacation a few months ago. I had always thought that GPS systems seemed neat, but wasn't sure if they were worth their price tag (usualy the "cheap" ones run in $500 - $600 range).

After I used the GPS in our rental car, I was sold, it was so handy to have, and made driving basically stress free. I'm not sure what model the rental car had, but the RoadMate 360 has a very similar interface, but I think it's better than the rental car GPS (for one, it has a touchscreen, that alone is so much better).

After our GPS arrived, I got my first chance to really test it out by going on a weekend trip out of town with my wife. Even though I actually did know how to get to the city we were traveling to, I used the GPS to get me there. Once in the city though, it did a great job of getting me to the hotel and then to all of our activities the next day.

I have heard others complain that the unit has a hard time with numbered addresses (like 72nd street), but I used it in Utah which has basically nothing but numbered addresses, and I found all of them fine (the trick is to enter just the number, and then select from the list whether it's north, east, south, or west after).

I am very impressed with the unit. The screen is nice and bright, the instructions are loud and clear, the voice is pleasant and not harsh, and the directions have been spot on and reliable.

I guess if I had to find a con, it might be the POI (Points of Interest) database. As others have noted in other reviews, because this comes with the maps for all of U.S., Canada, and Peurto Rico, they had to slim down the POI database. There are still 2 million POI's, which is a lot, but when you consider that's for all of those regions, it can be pretty sparse. I did find that it had many useful and helpful POIs though, and was able to find a few malls and restaurants I wouldn't have found otherwise.

I would also like to note that I found a firmware upgrade for these units on Magellans website, but my remanufactured unit (and another remanufactured unit that my parents bought) came with the latest firmware already installed, so that was a nice bonus. If you are having problems with your RoadMate 360, I would suggest that you make sure you have the latest firmware updated on your unit before making a review.

Another thing I would note, I was actually pleasently surprised with how much I liked the windshield mount. I really thought it was not going to work as well as it did (I figured it would get in the way and be a cheap flimsy suction cup that I left in the box and found a different way to mount the GPS). It is well made and forms a very strong suction to the windsheild, and did not get in the way at all.

Obviously, as is with any GPS, these can not completely rule out your own common sense, but if you use a GPS understanding it's limiations, they are wonderul machines.

My overall experience with this unit has been very positive. I am very happy about my purchase, and think it's an incredible value at this remanufactured price.

What Comes in the box of the Remanufactured Units:
- Magellan RoadMate 360 GPS Unit
- Windshield Mount
- Car Power Adapter
- Wall Power Adapter
- Instruction booklet
- CD containing more indepth instructions

This was the first remanufactured electronic device that I purchased but Amazon and Magellan are reputable companies and the price was unbelievable. I had used the Hertz NeverLost version so I just had to plug it in and it was ready to use. The user interface is very intuitive and the touch screen makes it even easier to use. It works great in the Los Angeles area and I plan to use it along the entire west coast. The unit came with the latest software already loaded and was in brand new condition.

First off there is no quick release button to remove the unit from the mount. So you either leave it in plain view all the time or you unstick the whole thing from the window every time.

The screen is one of the best I have seen indoors. It has one of those shiny coated screens that show vibrant colors. Do you have one of those new laptops with those screens? Yea great aren't they. Ever look at them outside? Can't see much can you. It is a huge hazard to view this GPS in the car. I can see a mirror image of my car at times with all the reflection.

The volume is stored away in menu options. So if you get a call or need to turn the volume up or down fast you will need to dig through some menues.

The cpu is very slow but still usable.

The good stuff.

-Small well made unit over all.
-Cheap
-some one said the mount was cheap and not flexable. It seems to be better then the 700 roadmate version, seems well made and is flexable.

Over all I would not recommend this unit to anyone. There are much better units made by Magellan. A GPS should improve driving not make it a hazard. I can't understand why Magellan would sell this with their name on it.

I still love Magellans but am let down by this model. When deciding what unit to get try to look for reviews from people that have used competitors and other GPS systems. If this is someones first GPS they will love it because they don't know what they are missing or what to compare it to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great GPS, Poor mount, September 27, 2006

I have had this GPS for about a month, and it is extremely easy to use and had minimal set up. So far it has gotten me about 20 places with pretty good directions. The only problem I can see with it is with the cheap design of the mounting hardware. Mine is already broken and I have resorted to industrial strength velcro on the dash.

Not sure what some of the purchasers expected, but this is a fantastic navigation system for $249. Touch screen is great. We programmed all of our frequent trip addresses into the GPS and can get to them from anywhere. Excellent coverage from downtown Detroit to Up North Michigan.. No complaints... Again, for $249 a GREAT DEAL.

1.0 out of 5 stars No maps, No support, October 20, 2006
This review is from: Remanufactured Magellan RoadMate 360 Vehicle GPS with Windshield Mount (Office Product)
No detailed maps on the unit for the Washington DC area or any other for that matter. Called tech support and they promised to send out a SD card. That was over a month and five calls to tech support ago and I'm still waiting.

Amazon agreed to take it back, and I'll buy another unit from amazon, but it won't be a Magellan. Tech support is lower than low. Shouldn't be that hard to send an SD chip and I don't appreciate being lied to repeatedly when they can't.

1.0 out of 5 stars A waste of money!, January 5, 2007
This review is from: Remanufactured Magellan RoadMate 360 Vehicle GPS with Windshield Mount (Office Product)
This factory refurbished model 360 GPS worked for about ten hours. Initially it worked fine. It then failed to pick up the satellite signal or would loose the signal as a drove along on a trip. I called tech support for help twice. The service personnel are very difficult to understand and they also have trouble understanding me. It is a language issue. They suggested various tests and reprogramming but it did not correct the problem. The unit was fifteen days past the 90 day warrantee so they wanted me to ship back the unit and charge me $144.00 to examine it. I can't afford to pour any more money down that hole for ten hours of service. Stay away from the refurbished unit and don't buy a new unit without an extended warrantee.

Works great! Really helpful...
It seems brand new. We just moved to New York City and this product is a lifesaver.
Only thing is sometimes its hard as place we are going will have a city name but this can only find the big town and not the small city in it...but I think its just a new york thing. It even shows gas stations and restaurants.

This product represents very good value for the money. I am well pleased with it. Since I spend a lot of time on the road it is a valuable asset, BUT! It takes some getting used to. It is not 100% right 100% of the time, but in foreign territory, it gets you to your destination, and is a whole lot better than MapBlast! It does not give or accept Zip Codes. This feature would be a desirable addition.
This unit plugs into the car cigarette lighter socket and requires no expensive batteries. There is an adapter that will plug into an in home AC outlet.
Would strongly recommend it to anyone who travels a lot and has limited funds.
