Amazon.com Product Description

Ergonomically designed, SLR-styled, and packed with powerful automatic and manual controls, the Minolta Dimage Z1 is a great choice for advanced photographers. It features an amazing 10x optical zoom, 3.2-megapixel resolution, and a 30 frame-per-second movie mode with sound.

Optics and Resolution
The Dimage Z1 features a 3.2-megapixel resolution that produces images up to 2048 x 1536 pixels for photo-quality prints up to 8 x 10 inches and medium-quality enlargements up to 11 x 14 inches. Movie Mode
With the Dimage Z1, you can capture TV-quality video (comparable to S-VHS) with sound. You can select from three resolution modes: 640 x 480 (VGA), 320 x 240, and 160 x 120. Video can be captures at 30 frames per second (fps) for flicker-free movies, or at 15 fps to maximize recording time. The length of your captured video is limited only by your memory card capacity.

More Features
Turn on the power, and you can take your first shot in approx. 2 seconds. Shutter release time lag is only 0.06 seconds, and shot intervals are 1.2 seconds. The DiMAGE Z1 also boasts the fastest autofocusing in its class. At 10x zoom, the Rapid AF, which employs video AF for accuracy and a passive sensor specifically to boost speed, has your subject in focus in approximately 0.4 seconds, and is even faster at wider angles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Deal, July 25, 2005
This review is from: Remanufactured Minolta Dimage Z1 3.2MP Digital Camera w/ 10x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
I just got this the other day, and it's truly a great camera. I know it's a refurb, but that doesn't bother me at all. I look at it this way. If there was a problem with it, Minolta fixed it. Plus, I got a 6 month warranty card with mine.
Some might be turned off by the fact it's only 3.2 megapixels, but that is plenty for most people. You can print photo quality prints up to 8x10, and good quality prints up to 11x13.
Anyway, 139 dollars for a camera with these features is just plain great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice grip, fantastic zoom, good aperture range, September 3, 2005

This review is from: Remanufactured Minolta Dimage Z1 3.2MP Digital Camera w/ 10x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
Bear in mind that I got this for some $ 140 (refurbished)

PROS
Good hand grip: unlike the standard rectangular cameras, that seems to slip from your hand and where fingers get in the way of the flash, or viewer or something, the grip on this camera is solid and ergonomic.
Large aperture range (and going in small increments).
Ergonomic button layout: you can do a lot of things with your thumb, holding the camera with just one hand.
Intuitive, simple menus.
Dioptric correcter in the viewfinder.
Flash hotshoe.
Good movie mode: max. 640x480/30fps.
Progressive shooting mode (keeps taking pictures rapidly and saves the last ones after taking the finger off the shutter, so you don't miss the exact moment you want to capture).

CONS:
No preset mode open to customization (I often take certain types of photographs, where I need a set of settings that I do not need for other pictures. Without custom preset, I have to change several settings each time I switch between 'usual' photographs and my particular need).
No anti-shake system (especially useful at high-magnification).
Lens extends partly outside the body (the Z10 model was better in this respect, because the lens was moving entirely in the body which meant faster times and, quite likely, higher reliability and sturdiness).
Only 3.2 MP.
Some purple fringing even at low zooms.

OVERALL
A good camera, a pleasure to work with, with amazing zoom (38-380 mm) and some semi-professional features found only in higher priced cameras. However, at over $ 200, you might want to consider the Canon S1, which has Anti-Shake (usually priced at over $ 250, but be on the lookout for special offers).

I was excited about getting this camera. I have had one other digital camera but I wanted a bigger zoom. When I received it I was prepared for it to have scratchs or look used and it did not. It looked brand new. One thing I could not figure out is taking a picture inside and thinking there was enough light but there wasn't the pictures kept coming out blurry but then I realized I needed the flash and they turned out perfect. I also shopped around to find this deal and purchased it at Amazon for $80 less then overstock. Very impressed. Love my new camera.
