5.0 out of 5 stars great for watching flash media
I was looking for a player that I could watch all media from my flash. I at first ordered a top of the line blu-ray. It was not able to read have of my files. This turned out to be one of the best items I have ever bought. I can watch anything with this flash.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Basically, this unit works acceptably. However, the unit does not respond to the remote control quickly, so when fast forwarding I often get sent to the end of the current part of the movie, which is highly irritating in the middle of a workout video or whatever. It is just kind of hard to use the remote, sluggish and unresponsive and does the wrong thing a lot. I...

It is just kind of hard to use the remote, sluggish and unresponsive and does the wrong thing a lot. I recommend you look for another unit. But this one is cheap and it works OK if you are just going to play movies straight through without rewinding or fast forwarding. If it was not too late now, I'd return it and get another one.

This player, not like most players from other manufactures, can read all type of media like CDs and DVDs from all around the world. This is the main reason why I bought this DVD. The only problem, it shuts off automatically and does not have a marked stop. If I pushed stop or pause, the DVD shuts down after some time and then I have to look for place where I stopped watching or watch the video from the beginning. However, for the $50 dollar price this problem can be forgiven.

Excellent product. I got it for my folks so I could share some DIVx home movie, and this works great for that purpose. Wish it read MKV files, but for the price the quality is hard to beat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great!, December 14, 2011

This DVD player does upscale either automatically to 720 or 1080 depending on what looks better, or it can be set to one or the other. Watching this on my HD tv with a standard DVD makes it look great. I am impressed with the quality of blacks and brightness it provides. I bought this two years ago when Blu Ray players were still very expensive. Now that they are getting better pricing this will be put on my TV in the bedroom and the Blu Ray in the living room.

Amazing dvd player! I bought 2 refurbished both over a year old used hard and they still work perfect. Love usb input. Think it's only usb 1.0. I used usb pendrives and they all work great, even have a toshiba external hard drive thats usb powered and it works fine on the player. Plays just about everything. doesn't support flash, matroska, and hd mpeg4. low quality mpeg4 works but may be a little slow depending on commpression. all divx / avi's play great takes about 5 sec to load a movie.HDMI looks pretty nice on my vizio with the dvd player. fast forward and rewind on usb are very slow just about useless. Over all a great dvd player. I recommend it!

Plays digital files mp3, mpeg2, avi, divx, etc. on DVD or CD or USB. Hi-res jpeg viewing. I have 500 GB hard drive connected and can access all files. Upgrading firmware a must for long filenames and better navigation -- go to avsforum dot com and look for DVP5990 vb6rocod. The biggest negative is that there is no playlist programming or shuffle play for mp3 files. Also you will want Foldersort to alphabetize your files if you use a hard disk.
