My Rio died 2 months after the 90-day warranty ended,
This review is from: Remanufactured Rio Forge 256 MB MP3 Player (Electronics)
Oh, I liked the Rio Forge 256 when I got it, but I would never buy anything from Rio again...especially not a 'refurbished' model.I bought mine for some of the features that I wanted (it could hold a memory card, and could read Audible.com files), and it looked sort of groovy. I enjoyed it while it was working. I didn't do my research -- it only had a 90-day warranty. What company can't support their product (which has no moving parts!) for more than three months? When my died out of warranty (less than two months out of warranty), the level of customer service I was offered was "You can get a replacement unit for the out-of-warranty fee of US$69." We had a long email back-and-forth exchange where I was shunted around to different 'humans' (Nathan J., and Peter L....the 'nom du jour') trying to get someone in the company to take some responsibility for selling junk.

Don't waste your time!!!,

The first one was really crappy. It sounded distorted when turned up past 4 and it quit after about 30 days. The second one lasted 35 days and just stopped working. When they quit they wouldn't even turn on when plugged into a computer. Don't waste your time or money.

This was a good mp3 while it lasted, which wasn't as long as i wished it would have. The sound was great, it was easy to uderstand how to move around through the menu, and it's a nice looking little thing. One problem i always had with it though is that the power button seemed to be hard to get too, and i couldn't tell if it was turning on when i pressed it unless i was looking strait at it. Another thing that bothered me was that the thing frooze alot, so i would have to take the battery to reset it. Other then that i didn't really have any trouble......... that is till now. All of the sudden, for no reason at all, i can't take music files off of it, or put them on. I've e-mailed Rio about my problem many times, but have gotten no reply, i've tride calling them too, but they still didn't supply me with any usefull advice. Its a shame that this had to happen to my Rio, cause i really liked it and was hoping to use it for another year.

My first MP3 I had by Rio and I absolutely loved it! No problems what so ever. Well it was a sad day when I left it at a hotel and someone stole it. So I got on amazon and ordered this one, only slightly different than my old one. I was extremely excited when I finally got it in the mail. It worked great for about 2 weeks. Then in my stuggle of studying for a very big exam I needed a break. I pulled out my Rio and my volume wouldn't turn down. I could turn it up...now music was blasting in my ears and I couldn't turn it down. So I'm very sad. I now have to return it (hopefully it goes well). Be safe...don't buy remanufactured!

I used to have a Rio CD/MP3 portable player, but it has become very outdated, and I wanted something more lightweight. The Rio Forge fits the bill and then some! I use this machine to listen to distance education lectures for my Masters. I can work around the house and learn too! I like the fact that I can expand its memory, too (and was very happy to see that it took the same media as my digital camera, so I can share my existing card between the two). The sound is perfect for my needs (though please note that I am not an audiofile) and I can see myself using the machine for audiobooks and music once my degree is finished.

No problems,
This review is from: Remanufactured Rio Forge 256 MB MP3 Player (Electronics)
I've had the Rio player for about a month, and I have no complaints as of yet. 256MB has more than enough room for what I need in the gym for a workout, and it's USB connections and software make adding/deleting songs really simple. The menu options could be improved upon, but a minor gripe really. Overall, a great piece of equipment for the price.

My unit arrived with a tab broken from the battery cover. As a result, the cover would just fall off when the player was being handled. My first thought was, "No big deal. I'll call Rio and they'll send out a new cover."I called their support number, explained my problem and was transferred to tier 2 support. I explained to the support specialist that I had received the unit with a broken battery cover. I was shocked when I was politely told, "I'm sorry we can't send out covers. TRY PUTTING TAPE OVER IT." After demanding Rio take care of the problem, I was put on hold for some time while the specialist consulted with her manager. Rio still refused to send out a replacement cover, but issued a return shipping label for the entire player and shipped it back to me with next day delivery. Their resolution probably wouldn't have bothered me so much if they hadn't initially told me to use tape on my brand new MP3 player. The reason Rio gave me for refusing to send out just a battery cover is: "The serial number of the unit is on the battery cover and is the only way of uniquely identifying the player." Therefore, should the very thin plastic tabs of the battery cover break after the unit is out of warranty; I will be reaching for the tape, because the cover will not be available for purchase.

Buy a new one!!,
This review is from: Remanufactured Rio Forge 256 MB MP3 Player (Electronics)
My Rio Forge is great--excellent sound, compact design, and since I'm a runner I greatly appreciate the secure fit on the armband --has never loosened or fallen off. However I would not risk buying a refurb one. Mine was new and I have had it for about 18 months with no problems at all.

This is not the best MP3 player I have had ,but it is very good for the price. I had a Rio sport as well and that was a good MP3 player I only had one problem using it ,the display stoped working but a quik shut off and turn on solved the problem. The forge is a well made device for people that work out or go on long trips. I have the 256MB Rio Forge and I bought one for my parentsthey love it. It is simple to put music on and off of just click, drag and Drop. The sound is very good quality as well the radio gets very good reception ,the only down side is rio is no longer manufactured so you can not get a warrenty on the device. |
