Tracing ABC
Two tracing modes

Get your little one on track to perfect penmanship with the Tracing ABC app for your Android device. Ideal for children four years and older, the Tracing ABC app has a simple and engaging interface designed to help children print letters, numbers, and various shapes with ease and confidence.

It's as Easy as...

Choose among four practice options: capital letters, lower-case letters, numbers, and shapes. For the beginners with clumsy little fingers, the Guided Tracing Mode is a good place to start and Free Style Mode offers more of a challenge.

Just Learning

The Guided Tracing Mode displays a large, transparent letter on a chalkboard. A bright, green star indicates where your child should begin, followed by a path of fading yellow stars. To properly print the letter, your child will follow the yellow star path, beginning with the brightest, green star. If it's necessary to lift the chalk for a new line, a new bright green star will appear indicating such.

Guided Tracing Mode makes it impossible to go outside of the lines. It's best for simply familiarizing your child with the letters, and providing positive feedback and encouragement.

I Think I Got It

Free Style Tracing Mode offers a more organic writing experience when your child is ready for more of a challenge. While the star path is still there, the chalk line follows the exact path of your child's finger. If your little one gets sloppy, the line will turn red. Each effort is awarded one, two, or three stars. Children may also be encouraged to simply try again.

A is for Alligator

After successfully tracing a letter, the overhead screen is pulled down displaying a word and photo of something beginning with that letter. Likewise, children will see a photo which represents the numbers and shapes as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars good to use in OT February 21, 2012

This app is really a 3.5. I would love to move it up if the developer fixes the letter formation errors listed below.

I had another program like this, but it couldn't move to the SD card so I had to remove it. I like this program. I can definitely see myself using this with my Autistic students to work on letter and shape formation.

This installed easily and was easily moved to the sd card. Most of the letter formations are the ones I use with my students. v and w are formed incorrectly, and I will not let my students use this to work on those letters. (the w is made of 4 separate strokes, should be 1.) I don't like the "tail" on the t, but it is workable. Lower case k is also incorrect but workable. The most important letters that programs like this tend to get wrong like d, are correct!

I also like the addition of shapes and numbers, that is something that I have not seen in similar programs. Next, I would love the ability to input a short word for my students to work on one letter at a time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great App To Use WITH Ur Child... February 21, 2012

I read all the reviews & tried the app myself. I think this app is great. I know my 4 yr old will love this.
Great FAOTD.

And to all the reviewers freaking out about their "child playing on the $200 Kindle Fire" -- Really???
Why don't u try to apply the philosophy I have which is SUPERVISE UR KID WHEN THEY'RE USING IT.
When my 4yr old daughter wants to play on my Kindle I do something like Actually Sit Next To Her & Watch & Play With Her!
Hmmm...what a concept.

5.0 out of 5 stars App worth paying for!! Got it free February 27, 2012

My Autistic child plays with app all the time. He was a little hesitant at first but it did not take him long before he traced all the alphabet and shapes. He loves the clapping at the end. He wears down my batteries on phone using this app. He knows to follow the stars to trace a letter or shape which helps with hand-eye coordination. He also repeat the words that comes after he traces the letters or shapes which helps with his memories process. LOVE LOVE this app. I would give it 6 stars if I could. I would recommens this to anyone who has an Austic child having problems with letters and shapes. My son hates to use a pencil or crayon but does not want to put this "GAME" down. He plays it over and over again and loves it the same everyday. I am so grateful that I found this app and the free App of the day to boot. Thanks so very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5+++ stars **********

4.0 out of 5 stars Kindergarten teacher review of Tracing ABC January 27, 2013
Verified Purchase
I like that it has upper and lower case letters in the Manuscript style. Students are able to shape trace both letters and numbers and are told the letter names......starry fireworks if done correctly. App has chalkboard writing sound as children trace the letter. The part I do not like is the switch from Manuscript style to D'Nelian style letters when practicing word writing. They trace Manuscript, but show finished word in D'Nelian. Please stick to the same letter style throughout the app. Also the one letter of the word at a time instead of the whole word on the screen to trace altogether needs to be fixed. As other reviewers mention some letters are made incorrectly. Android based apps need some work to become more useful in the classroom. Teachers and school systems want to use Android based tablets because they are less expensive and works just as we'll as the alternative iPad. However the APPS must catch up to the EDUCATIONAL quality of the iPad apps.

4.0 out of 5 stars drafting February 21, 2012
many people have gicen this app bad revies because of the improper methods it teaches M,N,W but in drafting and architecture classes you are taught to make all your letters with downward strokes. this stroke deacreses the chance of tearing the thin paper with your lead pencil which develope chisel like points. so yes bad app for everyday use good if you want your kid to be and architect.
