Red Dwarf is THE best sitcom to come out of the UK since Fawlty Towers. This early stuff looks very shaky and is a bit slow in parts, but you have to remember the budget constraints the producers were under, plus the newness and unfamiliarity of the cast to the roles. You also have to realize that BBC Sitcoms are often a 'work-in-progress' and unlike their american Counterparts, are more like evolving mini-theater, than slick high-budget network USA soaps that are written by a team of 20 or more. This series started life in a Brittish Pub with two crazy writers, and remained that way for at least the first 2 series (6 episdodes) They took at least that long to get it working right - an alien concept to American Sitcoms, where so much hangs on a pilot episode and ratings. The BBC is a great forum for generating experimental comedy. Red Dwarf was aloud to grow and mature. Now, it is a world-wide Cult hit, with a growing Following in the USA, and elswhere.
Watch this first 3 episodes, therefore, expecting to see a living History, a great deal of longe term plot and Character establishment, and yet soem very funny and wacky stuff unlike anything elswhere on TV ...ENJOY !

By far one of the funniest series from the U.K. Red Dwarf is a must have for any movie cult collector. Spend hours on end watching the entire available series with such happenings as the "Cat" having his bowels working in reverse, or "Lester" the lead male character suddenly finding himself pregnant. If you do not find your self laughing you truely are a Smeg-Head.
