5.0 out of 5 stars Started me on my way to glory
Apart from a relatively cheap and obscure greatest hits package called 'Greatest Hits: 1969-1972', this was my first real taste of Led Zeppelin. I first heard it as my uncle's house and was so excited that I asked for it for my next birthday. That was some time ago now and Led Zeppelin has become my all-time favourite band. If you are just being introduced to the band,...

3.0 out of 5 stars A decent overview but it makes a few major mistakes
My ideal Zep compilation would look something like this (songs not found on Zep comps starred):

Disc One (1969-1972)

1. Good Times, Bad Times

2. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You

3. You Shook Me*

4. Dazed And Confused

5. Whole Lotta Love

6. What Is And What Should Never Be

7. Thank You*...

I first heard it as my uncle's house and was so excited that I asked for it for my next birthday. That was some time ago now and Led Zeppelin has become my all-time favourite band. If you are just being introduced to the band, I would say that this package is the perfect place to start. It has everything the casual fans could ever want and more.

If you like this kind of music, these discs will probably have you rushing out to buy all of the band's albums like it did for me. One of the many good things about 'Remasters' is that contains just enough material to placate the casual fan and not too much material to overwhelm them.

Start here and if you like what you hear, keep going until you have everything!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome introduction to Led Zeppelin, April 30, 2007
This review is from: Remasters (Audio CD)
THE BAND: Robert Plant (vocals), Jimmy Page (guitars), John Paul Jones (bass, keyboards), John Bonham (drums & percussion).

THE DISCS: (1990) 26 songs on 2 discs clocking in at approximately 144 total minutes (about 72 minutes per disc). Included with the discs is a 6-page booklet containing song titles/credits/times, several band photos, and thank you's. This 2-disc set is the (import) European "highlights" portion of the bigger 4-disc (54 total songs) set under the same name. This compilation follows the band from 1969-79. Digitally remastered sound. Produced by Jimmy Page. Label - Atlantic Records.

ALBUM REPRESENTATION: Debut "1" (4 songs), II (3), III (3), IV-Zoso (5), Houses Of The Holy (4), Physical Graffiti (3), Presence (2), In Through The Out Door (2).

COMMENTS: For a rock band as big as Led Zeppelin was, there simply aren't a whole lot of compilations to choose from. Personally, I think that's a good thing. For the true beginner, this mix is a great intro to the band. For the listener wanting a few studio albums - I'd recommend "II", "IV"... and then "Houses Of The Holy and "Physical Graffiti". All of Led Zeppelin's albums are essential in my book - some simply more so than others. Chronological order here is a bonus (the 4-disc set is surprisingly NOT in chronological order) and you can hear the band maturing through the years. Only thing that could have made this 2-disc set better is utilzing the whole disc(s). Both discs left approximately 8 minutes of blank space and why not put another song or two on each - plenty of omitted classic songs to choose from (i.e. "Over The Hills And Far Away", "The Ocean", "In My Time Of Dying", "Fool In The Rain", "Gallows Pole", "Going To California", "Thank You", "Living Loving Maid", "Moby Dick", or anything from "CODA"). The remastered sound is ultra crisp and the songs sound amazing. Looking for a great place to have many a classic Zeppelin song all in one place - look no further (5 stars).

5.0 out of 5 stars This is better than Early Days/Latter Days, December 21, 2005

This is the best double disc Led Zeppelin collection available. Early Days/Latter Days, the American collection, is missing Heartbreaker, Ramble On, D'yer Mak'er, Celebration Day, Misty Mountain Hop, and The Rain Song, all of which are on here. The only songs on that collection that are not on this one are What Is and What Should Never Be, When the Leveee Breaks, and Ten Years Gone. Overall, this is a much better purchase. I know diehard fans consider any retrospective collection an abomination and think that everyone should have at least the first four albums, but for those of us who just want a little bit of Led Zeppelin in our libraries, this is perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crank up the volume!!!!, May 6, 2006

Led Zeppelin Remasters gives you all the major Zep tunes in one convenient 2 CD set.

Jimmy Page oversaw the digital remastering and the sound is excellent.

Zep purists my be slightly annoyed at the sequencing of the tunes (like with "Heartbreaker") but the casual fan shouldn't mind a bit.

So stick this in your CD player, pump up the bass, crank up the volume and prepare to be blown away by the greatest R&R band ever!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best (least expensive) Zeppelin collection, February 9, 2005
This review is from: Remasters (Audio CD)
A lot of years ago I had the original Led Zeppelin Remasters 3-CD set. I sold it to get money toward rent during one of my summers of irresponsibility. My fiancé just got me this 2-CD set for Christmas to replace the one I had. I was kind of like "Uh, you got the wrong one!" at first, but then I realized that the only difference was that this set didn't include the CD that contained interviews with the band. I wasn't so mad after that because I never listened to that anyway. Also, this set comes in a much more reasonable case.

I recommend this set to any Led Zeppelin fan because it includes most of their really good songs. The only song I wish were on here but isn't is Tangerine. No big deal, really. And I'd rather have to haul around two CDs with all of the good songs on them than six CDs that have all of my favorites here and there.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best CD ever, May 18, 2005
This review is from: Remasters (Audio CD)
Led zeppelin is one of the best bands that ever lived. If you want to spend the money, I recommend you go out and buy every single led zeppelin album that was ever made. But since most of you don't want to spend all that money, I recommend buying this CD. It has all the best songs, like dazed and confused, stairway to heaven, and kashmir. I recommend this for any person who ever liked any kind of music at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars LED ZEPPELIN HAS THE MUSIC, January 4, 2004

This double album has all the great songs that Led Zeppelin has ever released. Now if you buy this album you will not need to buy any other albums because the best songs are right here, everything from I to Pysical Graffiti and Houses of the Holy.
Stairway to Heaven (my favourite zeppelin song) is featured on the album too. Good art inside to. Most zeppelin albums don't ever have pictures in the booklet, this one dose.

5.0 out of 5 stars LED ZEPPELIN COMPILATION, May 25, 2003
By
This review is from: Remasters (Audio CD)
First - music is offcourse five stars.
But the point is that there can't be good Led Zeppelin 'best of', 'best of early/later days' or whatsoever, because every compilation would miss some/other great tracks, and in case of Zeppelin, you are not allowed to miss anything!
Ok, if you are new, sets like this are great introduction, but if you dig it, or any classic rock, all Led Zeppelin album are obligatory! Esspetially first six of them.
Still, great songlist, and if you won't go further, essential by any means.

I have owned pretty much every album Led Zeppelin has released, and this is the one I carry with me all the time. It is a perfect combination of some of their greatest hits. Love it!

After carefully picking my way through all of the Zeppelin collections and
albums out there, I settled on this one. Why? Because it has the best song list of all with no junk fillers. This is your best value in terms of price and delivery of the heaviest of Led Zeppelin's
hits.
