3.0 out of 5 stars Did nothing to prevent or cure; more comfortable to brush with though
Quite a tide of positive comments on this. Unfortunatley, I cannot join it so enthusiastically. I paid $8 for a tube of the Rembrandt Canker Sore toothpaste, which provides enough to last three weeks at most with twice a day brushing. I have suffered from canker sores throughout my life, and have never found any particular trigger or useful cure other than patience and...

This review is from: Rembrandt Premium Whitening Mint Toothpaste with Fluoride, Extra Gentle (For Canker Sore Sufferers) - 3 oz (Health and Beauty)
I've been using this toothpaste for a few years now. Put simply, it's very effective at reducing canker sores.

My dad is a dentist and told me ages ago about the correlation between sodium lauryl sulfate, a common detergent in virtually every toothpaste (it's the stuff that makes it foam up), and canker sores. The trick was finding a toothpaste that was free of this suspect ingredient. When this Rembrandt version came on the market, I immediately gave it a try. I haven't looked back.

I used to experience outbreaks about every eight weeks. Now I get canker sores perhaps twice a year, and they last half the time they used to. Yes, the dentist-applied treatments such as Debacterol work well, if painfully. However, it's much more satisfying to avoid the problem in the first place.

Does it whiten your teeth too? Beats me. I haven't noticed. All I know is that I rarely get canker sores anymore. Whiter teeth are a bonus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Canker Sore Relief has finally arrived.. This stuff really works!!, February 10, 2007

For an unknown reason I have been getting canker sores on my tongue over the past 2 years. They would come and go. After suffering through painful episodes of not being able to eat, talk or move my mouth for 3 days worth of time it would go away only for another to appear in a different location. It became an endless cycle of suffering that was stressing me out and making my life a pure discomfort to say the least.

I tried every over the counter medication out there that you can get from every drug store in the area. Some did take the pain away but none of them truly eliminated the problem.

That was until I tried this toothpaste. This stuff works. It really works. It wasn't until I started to use this stuff regularly that the problem truly went away. I was skeptical at first, there were so many other products out there that said the same thing "Help eliminate canker sores" but this truly did what it said it would.

Just brush your teeth daily in the morning with the regular amount of toothpaste you normally use. Make sure you take your time to brush with this paste and in a very short time period you will notice that the outbreak of canker sores has come to an end.

I can't recomend this stuff enough. It really has been a life changer for me and delievers as promised. Once you start using it, you won't go back to any other alternatives. The mint flavor is mild and the toothpaste itself helps clean and whiten your teeth. So you are getting two services for the price of one with this product.

Finally canker sore victims can give a sigh of pure pain free relief. Thanks to Rembrandt, Extra Whitening and Canker Sore relief toothpaste. If you are looking for that relief to your canker sore outbreaks. This is the product to get. It works! It works! It works!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product!!, February 1, 2007

Works great but I wish I could find it in stores. The one RiteAid that does carry it, doesn't always have it in stock. I also can not always find it in just any Rite Aid. Some don't carry it at all...annoying!

My daughter is the canker sore sufferer. I did some research before I discovered Rembrandt, and found that the ingredient, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, found in almost all toothepastes is the culprate. Rembrandt for Canker Sores does not contain this key ingredient. Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is what makes our toothepaste foam. My daughter hardly ever has anymore canker sore breakouts. If she does, it seems to be from getting a cold. Try and find a toothpaste without SLS...they aren't out there. It would be nice to have some competition to bring the price down and be more readily available. But all in all, I'm glad someone has made this product available, even if it's pricey and hard to find.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!, January 24, 2007

I first tried this toothpaste a couple years ago, but because it was so expensive, only used it when I started to feel a canker sore coming on. To my amazement, the cankers never did erupt, and were often gone by the next day! I continued to use it in this manner for several months. The one time I forgot to re-order it, I ended up with a mouthful of canker sores. Now I buy it in the convenient 3-pack because I never want to run out again! I also have been using it regularly, and so far have not had any canker sores at all.

This is the most amazing product. I've suffered from canker sores my whole life, always getting 2 or more at a time, and they would take forever to heal. Often it was too painful to even talk, much less eat. I tried every product on the market over the years, and only a couple of them even offered temporary relief. I am absolutely ecstatic to have discovered this toothpaste, and will never be without it again!

Yes, it's expensive, but if you're a true canker sore sufferer, it is worth it's weight in gold!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective, Great product, October 17, 2004
This review is from: Rembrandt Premium Whitening Mint Toothpaste with Fluoride, Extra Gentle (For Canker Sore Sufferers) - 3 oz (Health and Beauty)
I've been using this product for several years now. I used to have canker sores every month before using the toothpase. Now I only get them a few times a year. It works great and it has the recommended minimum flouride requirements also. It doesn't work for everyone one though. I recommended this to a friend of mine and she said it didn't work for her.

I used to get canker cores very frequently, and often I would have more than one, and sometimes up to five at a time. After switching to this product the number of canker sores I would get in a year dropped significantly and now I only get a few (probably less than 4) each year. I am truly amazed by the difference this toothpaste has made.

My husband has always suffered from canker sores & although we have never found a cure, changing his toothpaste has made a tremendous difference! He had been using Sensodyne without the sodium laurel sulfate, but he would still have outbreaks. Since consistently using Rembrandt he has had maybe one canker sore in 8 months...vs. getting at least 10 at-a-time & a swollen tongue every couple of months. We will be lifetime users of this product.

This review is from: Rembrandt Premium Whitening Mint Toothpaste with Fluoride, Extra Gentle (For Canker Sore Sufferers) - 3 oz (Health and Beauty)
I used to get canker sores so often that it was easier to count the days I was not afflicted. I asked my doctor and my dentist, I even had a biopsy done on them (ouch!), but none of them had any advice. I researched the problem on my own (web) and found lots of discussion about sodium lauryl sulfate as a possible cause. I looked at every tube of toothpaste at the store and the all had it. I finally found Rembrandt Naturals, and gave it a try. It worked great. I went from almost continuous canker sores to one every month or so. I couldn't find Rembrandt Naturals when I lived in Hawaii, so I looked online and found Rembrandt For Canker Sore Sufferers. I have used both and I like that one the best. The end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, April 13, 2006
This review is from: Rembrandt Premium Whitening Mint Toothpaste with Fluoride, Extra Gentle (For Canker Sore Sufferers) - 3 oz (Health and Beauty)
Throughout my life I have had trouble with canker sores, especially recurring ones along my lower and upper lip areas. I would use varied treatments when they got really bad...Kanka (a numbing agent) or salt usually. Most of the time though, I would just suffer through them.

Then a couple of months go I got a really terrible one. It was right on my uvula. I was more or less in a world of pain, and simply swallowing or moving my tongue would make it five times worse.

This spurred me to do some research into what causes them. I found a ton of things that I was able to rule out, until I found one cause that I had never heard of: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, a toothpaste ingredient. Sure enough, all of the toothpastes in our house had this ingredient in them.

So, I finally went to the pharmacy to purchase a numbing agent (Kanka, which as I mentioned I had used earlier in life), and came across this toothpaste, which I also bought. The Kanka kept the sore at bay enough so that I could eat for the first time in several days, and it eventually healed.

But the real kicker is this toothpaste. I've been using it ever since, and aside from being a good toothpaste, I have not had -one- sore. Not one. I definately recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly, February 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've suffered from canker sores my entire life. I would usually get 2-3 at a time, they would last for a few days, finally go away, and the cycle would repeat in about 1-2 weeks.

Two things make them stop occurring:

1) Using Listerine mouthwash immediately after brushing

2) This toothpaste

I discovered the effects of Listerine in high school. The only problem is that I really can't stand Listerine, but the canker sores do not occur as long as I routinely use it. Eventually I decided to try this toothpaste instead of Listerine. It worked perfectly. I would no longer get canker sores even without the use of Listerine. And I know this toothpaste is responsible, because if I use a different toothpaste for whatever reason (I run out, I go on vacation and forget it, etc), I will immediately start getting canker sores 1-2 days right after.
