A break-through study,

This review is from: Rembrandt's Landscapes (Hardcover)
The first in-depth study on this little-known aspect of Rembrandt's art, this book lists all the landscapes that are known to be of the master's hand and some which used to be attributed to him and are now given to other artists. Each work is splendidly illustrated (many close-ups of details shed a new light on the paintings)and thoroughly analysed; provenances and current locations are accurately listed. The book, a catalogue for a recent exhibition held in the Netherlands, also places Rembrandt's landscapes in the more general context of 17th century Dutch landscape painting and a sensible and enlightening text reveals new meanings to the works illustrated. Highly recommended. |
