I shelled out the big bucks for the pleasure of having Remedios Varo's wonderful works (a majority of them) in full color, one per page reproductions. What a delight!

There are various articles along with the introduction to ground the reader in the person and history of Ms Varo. There's also a wonderful section that lists various comments Varo made on particular paintings (which is a special treat to read as one flips back and forth, from her words to her painting). There is also a section with black and white smaller reproductions of sketches, studies, and lesser works. There's also a bibliography, periodical list, and list of exhibitions. The name of the paintings on the repros are in Spanish, but there is a list with the English translation in the back and an index, too. (The articles are in both Spanish and English.)

The only thing that would make this even better would be more of Varo's own words and all--every single one--of the works reproduced full page.

But this is definitely something worth having and enjoying for those who are either studying Varo's art or, like me, simply immensely treasure her work.

I've recently become a passionate fan of Remedios Varo - and THIS is the book to get if you want excellent, large, well colored and printed reproductions of her work. Other biographies etc. are great for text - this is the one to get a good, close, detailed view of the work.

This beautiful book is well worth the price. The color plates are large and true to color. Varo's paintings are on view at LACMA presently in a show called "Wonderland"--women surrealists.
