4.0 out of 5 stars Back to their roots, November 1, 2006
This review is from: Remedy (Audio CD)
I am an avid Boyz II Men fan, owning all of their previous albums. Before this album, I think they were trying to be something they weren't, a little too much hip hop. This album gets them back to their roots, as a crooning R&B group, one of the best! With the exception of 2 or so tracks (which are faster in nature and a little hip-hopish), they go back to the love songs, which are great. The harmonies are unmatched (even if they don't have Michael anymore for the basslines), and they are still as good as ever.

This is a very "sexually charged" album as their lyrics are definitely more descriptive (lots of songs about "making love"), which doesn't bother me in the least. I have seen them live, and Wanya gets the ladies going with just a few words.

My favorite song on the album is "The Last Time" which is the saddest song on the album, but the music, harmony and overall tune is the classic Boyz II Men sound. If you don't like listening to that song, then I don't know what to tell you, its amazing!

They are an amazingly polished group, that vibe very well with each other, their runs in songs never sound like they are imbellished just to put them in, they work perfectly!

I have this album 4 stars instead of 5 because it doesn't measure up to some of their previous blockbuster albums where every song had the potential to be a #1 hit. "The Last Time" has the potential to be their hit from this album, and "Muzak" has the potential to be their first mainstream hit.

I hope this was useful for all of you, this is my first review, but I am such a fan of Boyz, that with their resurrection, after Michael left and after their last album with very little new music, I wanted to give them their due props for their new orignal music and their staying power in an R&B world that has no good harmonious groups left to dominate it.

4.0 out of 5 stars They Finally Got 'The Remedy' To Revive Their Careers!, February 8, 2007
This review is from: Remedy (Audio CD)
Boyz II Men have seen the highs and experienced the lows throughout their 15 year career. Having some of the most successful R&B albums and singles in the history of music says a lot. But the lack of sales and promotion for their last couple of releases says even more. With the departure of Michael McCary due to an ongoing back ailment, Nathan, Shawn and Wanya have been battling for attention that they should have never lost to begin with. But bad business, grueling concert tours, and questionable songwriting decisions left them in the boat they found themselves in. They truly needed something to put them back on the path of success again. So they dusted their shoulders off and came up with The Remedy, an import album (it's set for a 2007 release in the US) that plants them right in the thick of things again.

The ballads on The Remedy are outstanding, something that we've known they could do since the days of Cooleyhighharmony. One listen to "Here I Come" will convince any naysayer of their singing ability. "Morning Love" is a sweet, eloquent tune that will instantly make the mood right. "Perfect Love Song" is where they compare the qualities of a woman to what else....the perfect love song! "Gonna Have" is another powerful ballad that is just as good as anything they've put out in the past. Even their mid-tempo and club tracks are substantial, with grooves like "The Last Time," "Crush" and the first single "Muzak" proving their more than just balladeers. The only two songs that don't have that spark like the others are "Ego" and "Booed Up."

Boyz II Men has another legitimate chance at getting back in good with the R&B world, even though I firmly believe that Full Circle was a wonderful yet under-promoted album that should have been their comeback album. But like they always say....good things come to those who wait. And luckily for all the BIIM fans out there, the rumored Valentine's Day release in the states of The Remedy will be worth waiting for. For those who can't wait, you could always drop $25-$33 for the import version right now. But word has it that the US release will be a double disc with a full 2nd disc of re-recorded hits from the past with the music more focused on how they feel today. We'll have to wait and see how that sounds, but if it's anything like the songs on this Japanese import, The Remedy will certainly be well worth the wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars THEY'RE BACK!!!, November 10, 2006
This review is from: Remedy (Audio CD)
Being the type of Boyz II Men fan that I am, they could have brought out an album singing restaurant menus and I would have bought it. since the U.S. release of Remedy is slated for next year, I was very pleased to find that I could purchase the import right now. I am really feeling this album. I think I have made my other CD's jealous because it has been the only CD I have played since receiving it last week. My favorite tracks so far are "Just Like Me" and "Here I Come". Also, "Muzak" helps me get through the afternoon grind at work. Another person's review stated that their lyrics are a bit more sexually charged this time. I would have to agree with that very much so and I don't mind it at all!! They're all hot (especially Nate). With that said, I also plan on buying the U.S. release when it comes out and can't wait for a tour.
