A unique guide to cleansing, healing, staying youthful,

The Remedy is not just another book about getting super healthy through cleansing and healthful eating. (I should know, since I have read nearly all raw food and cleansing book, and wrote one myself.) The health activist author, Supa Nova Slom, has the distinction of being known as hip-hop's Medicine Man who has helped some of music's biggest names on their road to health. While most African Americans were "the guinea pigs for the processed food industry," Supa Nova was blessed to have had a mother that raised him on wheat grass, sprouts, vegetarianism and detoxing. Raised in the hood, Supa Nova observed that "gansta life is as high-stress as any corner-office corporate gig." He and his mother educated people about health, first in the gangsta circles, then hip-hop circles, and finally in outreach education and speaking engagements. WOW. I can't imagine how being raised like that. What an edge this guy must have over those of us raised on what he calls "the Toxitarian diet"! Hi mother, Queen Afua, also writes the foreword.
Part 1 presents the remedy, a four-day cleanse. It's simple: anyone can do a four day cleanse of green drinks without medical supervision. (Nonetheless, the author advises that you seek medical advice if certain symptoms appear--probably mentioning this for legal protection since there is really nothing the doctor can do since these are detox symptoms: your body is just trying to get rid of the toxins). Supa Nova describes how he moved beyond vegetarian or vegan and became a "cholorophyllian." I usually just chug my green drinks down since the bitter taste is not pleasant. But to hear Supa Nova describe the green elixir he devised for the four-day cleanse, I found my mouth watering. I couldn't wait to get home and try it. This will definitely be this year's "spring cleaning" method for my body. It is better than water or juice fasting because you are giving the body the nutrition and alkalyzing it needs. "My whole life I've done juice fast, the Master Cleanse, water fast--almost every kind of fast and cleanse that there is--and I can personally attest to the fact that The Remedy cleanse program is the greatest, quickest and easiest mental, physical, emotional and spiritual natural reboot I've found to date," he tells us. He makes us forgo TV during the four days, so this is a fast for the mind as well! Part 2 outlines the 5-week cleanse for those serious about changing their lifestyle. Week one is flexitarian, eating some meat but forgoing red meat and sugar. Week two you become a vegetarian, with 50-75% of the food raw or lightly steamed. Week three you are a "supa raw food vegan." Week four is a juice fast. Week five you find your own rhythm, find what works for you from you four-week experience. No dogma--I like that. Everyone is different and we can't all be vegans, vegetarians, or 100% raw. We must listen to our own bodies. The book also has testimonies and advice sprinkled throughout from some of the big and influential names behind the scenes and on stage in hip-hop. It includes motivational principles, history and facts behind the steps to be taken, physical exercises, and recipes (vegan, both raw and cooked). It also has recipes for juices aimed at cleansing specific organs and tissues: kidney cleanser, liver cleanser, blood builder, lymphatic flush juice, respiratory cleanser, immune booster, and colon cleanser. These refined and perfected recipes alone are worth the price of the book. They also made my mouth water and I can't wait to try them out. The author discusses how it is hard to communicate with today's youth, and that he is a "translator." So I was expecting someone to be at least 30 or 35. But when I saw his photo, I was astounded by his radiant youth. Judging by his life experience, he probably IS at least 30 to 35--proof that all that cleansing, chlorophyll-ating and eating raw has sure kept him youthful!

The Blueprint for Wellness!,

First of all, I refuse to give you a break down on the book, because if you're anything like me, you've already done your research on it and you're just trying to find out if this book really works. It does. This is a blueprint to wellness. The ingredients are inexpensive and easy to find. The program is detailed without being too cumbersome. And the results are amazing. I lost 11 pounds using just "The Remedy" 4-day cleanse. After that, I went on to do the 5-Week Program, and lost an additional 24 pounds. My skin is so clear that I don't have to wear make-up anymore. My hair has grown out to almost past my shoulders (which for a black woman is a big deal). My body is tight and toned and my skin is soft and even. My nails are longer. My eyelashes are longer too. I have so much energy. Plus, I lost 10 inches around my waist and I finally have a flat stomach. But more than that, I have peace of mind. I believe in myself and I'm fighting for my health now. I will live 'The Remedy' life forever. Wellness Salute!

Supa Nova Slom presents a concrete plan for dietary and lifestyle changes in a surprisingly well-written and easy to read format. I've taken the book with me to the natural food market and used it like a grocery list to help me purchase the items I needed to implement the plan. I recommend The Remedy to anyone who has been struggling with implementing these types of lifestyle and dietary changes.

Supa Nova Slom leaves no stone unturned when explaining the delicate balance between our food, our environment, and the human body. This is a very important message; one that needs to be heard. The author tells it in a very easy-to-read writing style that draws you in and one that anyone can relate to. He touches truthfully on everything from our nation's food supply to the packaging it's sold in.
This book is very informative as well as inspirational. By the time I finished reading it, I had already bought a juicer and begun picking dandelion greens from my back yard! The juices and the recipes at the back of the book are easy to prepare and really, really yummy! The exercises are easy and non-strenuous, but at the same time are very thorough and effective. The Best Detox I've Tried,

The detox in this book is the easiest I've ever used: it's only a few days (4 days), and I have less cravings and no headaches -- probably because of the "superfoods" green mix). This makes it easier to stick with it. In fact, I've incorperated the green mix into my everyday diet (I've even tried the MegaGreens mix that the author created).
The 5-week program that follows the detox allows you to try vegan, raw, vegetarian/pescitarian lifestyle, and there's also a juice detox. This inspired me to switch to vegetarian this year. If nothing more, the 5-week program will put you better in touch with your body and how to heal it when certain symptoms arise, like a cold or allergies. The format of the book is nice in providing an easy program to follow, including: meal plans, workout plans, and inspiring stories from the author and celebrities to keep you motivated. He's fairly generous with recipies at the end of the book for meals and juices-- although I haven't tried them all, the ones that I have tried were delicious. This book is packed with vital content presented in a manner that is easy to understand and inspires improvement in health and wellness habits. I've referenced it several times since my initial purchase last year. You won't be disappointed with this book.

Following in the tradition of his mother, Queen Afua, Supa Nova Slom has written an excellent book. It is easy to follow this detox program as there is no need to go out and buy a bunch of expensive and hard to find items. He also uses quotes and examples of various hiphop artists, so this book can easily be absorbed by the younger generation.

This book is incredibly helpful, well-written and practical in nature. It made more of an impact on how I think and behave around food than any other book I've seen about fitness or food/diet, to date.
A few other books I've picked up in the past and have literally not gone past the first few pages. Not only did I enjoy reading this book from cover to cover -- I'm about to read it for the third time (!). One of the strengths of this books is just its practicality and it's conversational tone. Very relatable, easy and inspiring. Even your conversation or thinking about food will change after reading this. For ex, you'll begin to think twice about not "assaulting" your body by eating a huge breakfast first thing in the morning (and I'm a breakfast person, btw). You'll instead become more mindful of how you ease into the portions you eat for the day - following more natural cues from the sun. It's just a great, great book. I highly recommend it. --- PS - Would also HIGHLY recommend the Supa Mega Greens produced by the author (which I've tried as well). After taking Supa Mega Greens, I always feel even MORE vibrant than usual. <3

I really enjoyed this book and I don't even know the rappers and people references in this book. I'm not new to diet books and I found this plan an interesting approach. Here's how to get started with meat, vegetarian, raw, and juice fasting. Based on what I've read, each uses a very sound approach. I also enjoyed the presentation of several life lessons that describe what's happening in communities all over America, the value of self-love and discipline, and emotional/spiritual situations we all face. These lessons sound very genuine, straightforward, and practical. The most enjoyable diet book I have read so far. Also, while I haven't tested the recipes at the back yet, I browsed them and they seem very realistic, unlike some other diet books I have read.

I decided to come back and write my quick updated review on The Remedy. For people curious about the book the reviews available here I am finding talk about how easy and nice to read the book yet i was still curious on whether the suggested process works?!!?!? Big difference in a cleansing book and novel (ie. a nice read) That said, let me be straight forward with interested audiences that this book is worthy if merely because there is a small 5 day cleanse (which I am completing today) that leads up (if you so choose) to the 5 week program that he has outlined. Check out the book for those particulars but all in all I will say that on the 5 day cleanse I lost about 8 lbs and my friend who did it with me he lost 13 pounds! So go figure, something must have worked. We were not hungry AT ALL!
Because there are no "real" reviews on this cleanse among the gazillions of others, I chose to blog it while I went along - at least in pictures I should say. I am happy with the results and will recommend to others who can commit and have no problem with disciplining themselves at least for 5 days towards their health. Here is my blog: <...> I do hope others will actually review the cleanse itself to get the word out. I tried writing the author but he didn't bother to get back to me, so I guess he's busy healing the world. Nonetheless I am grateful for the info... Peace

Detailed oriented,with step by step directions on how and why to cleanse. The testimonials from hip hoppers were interesting but truly an after thought. I plan on following the cleanse and I know others who have done it found themselves in a healthy place.
