Great Rosenwinkel Killer Band!,
By
This review is from: The Remedy - Live At The Village Vanguard (Audio CD)
Well I must admit I purchased this set as two seperate downloads from itunes for 9.99 apiece but only because they aren't available from the Amazonmp3 store. Anyway I think The Remedy is one of Kurt's best albums to date. The reasons for this are its live with extended takes on the compositions i.e longer solos killer live energy vibe in the performances, a great recorded live sound with each instrument in the group receiving its proper balance & a great tone. My favorite thing about this performance is that each member of this fantastic quintet which consists of Kurt Rosenwinkel on guitar, Marc Turner on sax, Aaron Goldberg on piano, Joe Martin on acoustic bass & Eric Harland on drums is each at the top of his game. This band represents the cream of the crop of NYC jazz musicians. Kurt & Marc Turner are practically reading each others minds check out track 1 "Chords" for a great example of their near telepathy during solo exchanges. I also really enjoy the rhythm sections interactive playing during the entire set, much can be discovered simply by listening only to the great Eric Harland groove with Aaorn Goldberg & Joe Martin. I'll close by saying that words can't really do this music justice you must pick this album up & experience this groups greatness with your ears.

It's a Live CD, long extended solos. I liked the first (of 2) CDs very much, not so much CD 2. The song "Chords" is a must hear, Kurt's playing is utterly amazing, real nice piano solo too.

This record is not available in France. I received it in perfect condition, much earlier than expected (about a week after my order). I would recommend both the product and the seller.

rosenwinkel live,
This review is from: The Remedy - Live At The Village Vanguard (Audio CD)
This 2cd album is not only a live performance of what we heard played on his latest albums. New numbers, mayby even greater playning and expanded talent/craftmanship keeps me listening and listening. Rosenwinkel, and lots of others players, very easily got/get the status of one of the great jazz(guitar)players. Such a remark is ofcourse stupid. But just mayby Rosenwinkel can get there in the next decade with a lot of new creative work and in other settings. The two albums following this one give us a prommisse in that direction.

We Love Kurt,

Everybody loves Kurt, and it's been going on for a while. Why? Because noone sounds like him. His music mesmerizes, draws you into another world, leaves you wondering what else there is that you have never thought off and makes you go out explore life for more inspiration and ... meaning.
This CD sounds a little more jazzy to me than some of his previous ones, which might be due to the band he's playing with, all wonderful musicians, deeply rooted in the Jazz tradition. Jazzy or not, great CD. I can highly recommed it.

Previously exclusive to Artist's Share, I believe, this excellent 2-disc set is now available as individual iTunes Plus downloads, 10 bucks apiece. Since the set, great as it is, is all of a piece, having the option of getting half the music for half the price is nice. At this point in his career, Rosenwinkel has pretty much attained jazz guitar god status, and frequent collaborator Mark Turner is his equal on tenor, along with Eric Harland (who also shines with Charles Lloyd) on drums. Pianist Aaron Goldberg and bassist Joe Martin round out the quintet quite effectively. So rest assured this stuff is eminently remediable no matter how you take it.
