A good debut that deserves more shine!!,

Looking at this album I was assuming she was one of the many young R&B artists who didn't make it. Was I wrong. She is one of very few young women singer/songwriters that chooses to be backed by a band instead of some flossy hip-hop production. Rebekah is a very good singer with a great voice and her songs are well written. Each track on this album is different. None of them sound the same, even though they do revolve around a few key topics. The title track is a great song with her band putting together a great track. Her band seems to be just a collection of studio musicians who know what they are doing and this is demonstrated by the fact that her bass player is Mike Elizondo, who currently is Dr.Dre's go to man for any bass lines he might need. Rebekah unfortunately did not really have a chance to be successful. Our society does not seem to appreciate female singers who are not singing cheesy pop love ballads over some synths and a repetitive drum track. If you are looking for a good singer that you've probably never heard of check this album out you will not be disappointed.

This is a wonderful album that honstly reflects on todays problems without being hyperbolic. I love her voice, because its unique and not trying to fit into some category. I am angry that this album has not received much attention. But, I do hope that this will inspire those to give it a try. It is simply great

My fiance went on a "spending spree" and bought this for me from a used book store in the junk bin for $1.95. When I listened to this cd I could not believe it was only priced at 2 dollars. This is not pop, R&B, or rock. Its not easily categorized because its simply music and that's the way all music should be. True music is an expression from the artist's soul, not a well rehearsed script provided by the production company to make a lot of money. The quality of the music is worth a whole lot more than 2 dollars. Rebekah has a lot to say in a lot of different ways. Thanks Rebekah for re-introducing me to the art of simply loving music.

Beyond Real and Beyond Amazing,

It took me awhile to track down a copy of this cd, but in all the years I've not had it, I never forgot about this passionate, original, and completely real cd. It offers lyrics that are relative to everyone, I personally love that no two songs sound the same, and there's no way that anyone couldn't apprciate this cd...It might not be your style, but it's still praise worthy and original. It brings back memories of a time when an artists music was praised for being different from mainstream. I can't make you buy it, but I completely recommend it...

Absolutely Excellent,

Rebekah is certainly a very talented songtress. Some of her commentaries in her music are so refreshing from the usual run of mill music that we normally receive. My favorite song is "Keep It A Secret". How many of us have broken up with someone and continually wondered if our "ex" was still thinking of us or even wanted us back in that broken relationship. Its our own private thoughts and we keep it a secret. I also enjoyed "Love Song". While I thought that it would be the traditional song of two people endlessly in love. Instead, it was about the terrible life of a battered spouse. I like as Becky placed herself as the observer and then becomes friend while all along she silently advocates that this isn't love in the song. This is an excellent item. A must for any music enthusiast. I must admit that she is my little sister and so I am only just a little and I do mean ONLY a "little" bias.

I had never heard of rebekah before I picked up her disc at my local music store. I gave it a quick listen at the store's listening station and was hooked. The disc hasn't been out of my player since I bought it. While the first two tracks "Hey Genius" and "Sin so well" are dynamic and awesome, the emotional intensity of the title track "Remember to breathe" blew me away. I was recently critisized by a female friend of mine for the lack of female artists in my CD collection, but i would recommend this album to all sexes, creeds and colors. It transcends musical boundaries with an eclectic collection that keeps you wanting more.

A Melodic and Captivating First Effort,
By A Customer
This review is from: Remember To Breathe (Audio CD)
First off, let me say that I would never give an album that I haven't lived with for a while 5 stars right off the bat, but I am tempted to break that personal rule.I heard a quick sample of this CD at my local music store's listening station and was intrigued enough that I included this disc as part of my amazon.com book purchase. At the time of this writing, I've listened to it no less than 10 times in 3 days. I am officially addicted. Sure, it seems as though I've heard all of these songs before ("Cardboard Boxes" is very similar to "The Line" by Lisa Stansfield). Rebekah could be another Sheryl Crow. But what seems to set her apart is that her lyrics aren't as happy-go-lucky as Crow's, and they're not lessons in vocabulary like Fiona Apple's. Rebekah's words are thoughtful and the arrangements are unusual enough that, after a few listens, her songs do stand out from those of her peers. "Pining" is quite lovely. Unfortunately, "Sin So Well"--while a good song--may have been the wrong 1st single. "Love Trap" may have been the better choice to get his CD off to more noticable sales. Hopefully the Lilith Tour and talk show appearances will provide exposure to someone who seems like a very promising artist with the potential to have upcoming artists eventually compared to her.

...my initial review only gave this girl here 3 stars...i jus wasnt feeling it at first...i had bought alotta junk cd's that week and wasnt being impressed with none of it!! but a few days ago i was sittin back lissenin to the Time (morris day, jimmy jam and em) and some old Prince...and for some odd reason i jus felt compelled to give sister Rebekah another try...dont know why, but i liked it a lil bit better that time. She didnt come across as some big, purple-passioned, paisley [person] but something about her reminds me of Prince. imagine Apollonia with insight minus the overt sexual flirtations! this wasnt a bad disc to begin with, but initially it was very hard for me to get adjusted to... this is no where near as good as Alana Davis, but i enjoy it more than i did Res' cd...if her production was a lil less alternative, then i might have enjoyed this the way i did when i first heard Esthero's disc... Rebekah is very insightful, spirited even, but dont get this expectin somethin near r&b, soul or even neo-soul...but keep your mind open and be honest and you might find some pleasure in this....

As Good As It Gets,

I bought this album solely based on the fact that Rebekah was at Lilith Fair. i had never heard her music before, and I was really missing out. She blends pop, rock, and funk to attain an awesome sound. Songs like "Love Trap" and "Be Your Own" are simply irresistible. Once you hear them you can't stop listening to them. I really want to hear her live and I am blown away by the lack of publicity for her. She is far better than Alana Davis, yet we all know "32 Flavors", but not any of Rebekah's music. Too bad. Keep going girl!

Rebekah is so so much better live than on this album. I saw her live at Lilith and she blew me away. Then I got the cd and I was slightly disappointed. She has such a great attitude and rapport with the audience and the album doesn't bring any of this out. But it's a great cd none the less but I would rather have a live cd.
