5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
Music so pretty and "deep" just makes me wanna cry. Creeper Lagoon sans founding member Ian Sefchik is in fine shape with Sharky running the show. Always liked his haunting voice more anyway. This is just a morsel of heaven to tide us over to the next studio full-lengther. Hurry up already!

3.0 out of 5 stars One Song is Really Good
After my first listen, I can tell you "Way it Goes" is a remarkable song.

The rest of the songs are unobtrusive. "Way it goes" (which is very similar in style to the Wallflowers "Closer to You") is great to listen to while writing poetry. The electronic muffled beat adds a sort of "trapped emotions within the syncopated rhythm of the heartbeat's...

4.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous and breathy, July 29, 2004
This review is from: Remember the Future (Audio CD)
Following the "demise" of CL popular, I stumbled upon this release wanting to know what happened after the emancipation of Ian.

Que surpris!

This EP is better than it deserves to be and is so sonically gorgeous that it will melt into your brain for days after listening. I've heard people mistakenly call this brand of pop on this EP as "emo". Shame, shame.

Neo-psychedelic trappings that swirl around conventional pop mechanisms. You will hear overdubs, overlapping guitars, piano-balladry (without being maudlin) and solid melodies. Lyrics add to the melancholy, sadness, joy... (or is it the other way around?) Sharky might not have the delivery or urgency that the old Creeper provided with Ian and company, but it works as a mantra for new directions and sounds for the band. Somehow in my own brain, several tracks remind me of a better and more obtuse Brit-pop, like Coldplay and Travis.

"The Way It Goes" haunts me the most, but all tracks are solid. Listen closely and absorb well. Re...

while we'll all mourn the loss of the band that created such masterpieces as I Become Small and Go, Take Back The Universe..., etc. - this EP is amazing...truly beautiful and heartfelt music. The depth of emotion is incredible - Sharky certainly isn't going to win any singing contests -- but who cares?? -- the songs themselves are stellar. Keep your fingers crossed that the next full length LP will be in this vein...

The rest of the songs are unobtrusive. "Way it goes" (which is very similar in style to the Wallflowers "Closer to You") is great to listen to while writing poetry. The electronic muffled beat adds a sort of "trapped emotions within the syncopated rhythm of the heartbeat's unforgivingly ordinary tempo of life" sort of a feel. Although I like this song very much, it sort of doesn't go anywhere but it's still a 4-5 star song.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disheartened...................at best, September 6, 2003
This review is from: Remember the Future (Audio CD)
I am an old school creeper fan and just have to express how disappointed I am in the the former lineup disbandment (the loss of Ian Sefchick, actually) These guys were the sweetest ish since Sunny Day Real Estate/Run DMC/Beastie Boys.....you get my point) I swore up and down these guys were headed for massive success....not because they necessarily had a perfect pop formula (some would argue they did, including myself) but because their music was genuine and held an amazing balance, which I think no band has done since, of indie rock sensibility, pure melodic/pop bliss, and urban/hip hop influence (specifically "I become small and go album") All members continue to be great musicians, but the magic that Ian and Sharky created will be missed dearly.
