3.0 out of 5 stars This book was not as good as I hoped it would be!
Remember Me To Harold Square looked like it would bring back memories of New York City for me. I have been there many times. But, it didn't capture what New York City was really like. It also wasn't as funny as the description on the back of the book promised. I would recommend it to 5th and 6th graders, but not older readers.

A Kid's Review
This book is about a scavenger hunt in New York City. The main characters are Kendra, Oscar, and Frank. Kendra is a young teenager who is very energetic and trust worthy. Oscar is Kendra's little brother and he is very annoying. Frank is the son of family friends and he is fifteen. They have been given this task by their parents to learn more about New York. The prize is a trip to England. To complete the scavenger hunt they have to go to new places and try new things. For example they had to go to the Holocaust Museum, a movie studio where they filmed a soap opera called "All My Children", and even try sushi! This book is very interesting because their scavenger hunt is always so unpredictable. All the jokes Oscar does are so funny, for example he calls himself ok because his innitials are O.K. and Kenra kk because her innitials are K.K. The things that go through Kendra's mind are also very funny, like when she starts wondering what Frank looks like. You can feel that you are in the book because the author describes it so well that everything can be pictured in your mind. She also makes it easy to understand and a lot of fun because you want to know what the characters will do next. I really recommend this book to anyone who likes humurous books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book about normal kids and New York, September 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Remember Me to Harold Square (Paperback)
When I was a kid, I adored this book. Now that I've moved to New York as an adult, I want to buy a new copy because I remember how wonderfully it described the tourist attractions here. Another great thing about this book is that it shows what a great, educational city New York is. Also, the characters are like real, relatable people--not the perfect teens in a lot of young adult fiction. Kendra, Frank, and Oliver have dialogue so snappy that it made me laugh out loud. If you want to learn about fun things to do in New York with kids and teenagers, buy this book! I've read it easily a dozen times.

5.0 out of 5 stars The GREATEST Book Paula Danziger has to OFFER, December 22, 2001

The Book "Remember Me to Harold Square" is a great Novel. It is about a girl named Kendra Kaye who dreads about the decision that she has to stay with a boy name Frank (Her Parents Friend's Son) that she hardly knows and that she has to do some dumb Parents Scavenger Hunt in which she has to do with her pesty younger brother (O.K). This trip doesn't turn out so bad after all! Instead she starts to understand boys and even start to like them! Frank turns out to be a Great Guy who is everything she dreamed of!

4.0 out of 5 stars Remember Me to Herold Square, June 13, 2008

This review is from: Remember Me to Harold Square (Paperback)
Remember Me to Harold Square is about a high school boy from Wisconsin who spends six weeks one summer in New York City with friends of his parents, who have a high school daughter and a middle school son. The four parents have devised a six-week-long scavenger hunt for the kids to help them experience the best of the city and stay busy for the entire visit.

This book generated lots of great discussion in our Mother Daughter Book Club. We talked about whether it's an advantage for girls to be friends with boys before they start to date them and the difficulties of getting seriously romantically involved with someone when you're still young. None of the daughters are dating yet, or even plan to, (they're 12 so it was a good way to talk about dating issues theoretically.

We were also inspired to create our own summer scavenger hunt, and the girls loved it. They had to visit museums, eat new food, go the park and discover places around the corner they never knew about. It was a great way for them to stay in touch over the summer, and the parents were able to share the shuttling from place to place. It was lots of fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars Remember Me To Harold Square, November 20, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Remember Me to Harold Square (Paperback)
Remember Me To Harold Square is an interesting book. At first, I thought that it would be boring, but it turns out to be adventurous. I learned a lot about New York through the scavenger hunt that Kendra, Oscar, and Frank explored. I learned about different foods, cultures, museums, and places. There could not be a better setting because of the different minorities and races. I also learned about life in the city. It can be exciting, but things like poverty and starvation can be right around the corner from where you live. I liked the fact that Frank and Kendra had a nice honest friendship and I understand how Kendra feels about her little brother, Oscar.

This review is from: Remember Me to Harold Square (Paperback)
I read this book for school and I think it's one of the best books I've read. It was an easy read and had a great story line. If you like reading... romantic (i guess) books this is for you. I don't think I would recomend it to anyone over 16 or so though. It was great.

4.0 out of 5 stars All Grown Up--but Still Remember "Harold Square", February 23, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Remember Me to Harold Square (Paperback)
At 25 years old, I was describing this wonderful book to my boyfriend. I read it as a young teen, and the story still sticks with me today. This book is so charming, and with the scavenger hunt comes a great guide to NYC's cultural and historical landmarks, not to mention great people and FOOD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great teens' book by Danziger -- lots of fun!, April 19, 2001
By
This review is from: Remember Me to Harold Square (Paperback)
Kendra is dreading a summer with her brother and with the son of her parents' friends. It's made worse because all Kendra's friends are out of town.

The collective parents plan to make the summer more fun by organizing a scavenger hunt within New York City. The hitch is that it has to be done as a team. The prize is a trip for the whole team -- to England. Frank, who's never been to New York before, finds as much new stuff as do Kendra and her brother, "O.K."

Paula Danziger had a knack with making learning interesting and fun. She draws colorful characters -- in this as well as in all her books -- with whom many kids can relate. They're not the most popular kids in school, but they're interesting and fun and the kind of kids with whom I wanted to be friends when i was in school. The interactions between teens of both genders, as well as between siblings of both genders, make for a delightful story, worth reading again and again.
