5.0 out of 5 stars YOU WON'T FORGET "REMEMBER ME"
Right from the start, this book had me hooked simply because of the Cape Cod setting. Menley and Adam Nichols have rented an old captain's house called The Remember House. As with most very old houses, there is always the rumor that it is haunted. This one is no exception. But Menley has other demons to face besides the ones haunting this house. Her son, Bobby,...

3.0 out of 5 stars I'm Already Forgetting It
Clark always writes a fast-paced book with plenty of twists and turns, but I am not as enamored of her work as many readers are. This book had, to me, some rather silly gothic devices such as the secret room and spooky recordings, and the blackmail plot seemed contrived. I didn't think it had the edge and power of her earlier books. Neatly crafted, but hardly...

This review is from: Remember Me (Library Binding)
Right from the start, this book had me hooked simply because of the Cape Cod setting. Menley and Adam Nichols have rented an old captain's house called The Remember House. As with most very old houses, there is always the rumor that it is haunted. This one is no exception. But Menley has other demons to face besides the ones haunting this house. Her son, Bobby, was killed when a train hit the car Menley was driving. She has been guilt-ridden ever since. Only the birth of their daughter, Hannah, has been able to help Menley with her depression and put their marriage back together. Adam feels that a little rest in such a beautiful place is all that Menley needs to return to her old self.

Shortly after their arrival on the island, Adam, an attorney, becomes enmeshed defending Scott Covey who is accused of murdering his wealthy wife Vivien. While Adam is busy with business, Menley is slowly but surely having a nervous breakdown and it seems to the reader that someone is trying to make her go crazy in true "Hitchcock" style.

As usual, Higgins Clarke throws in some extra characters and clues to throw you off track and hits you with her customary surprise ending.

Please note that I'm giving this book 5 stars for its genre only as well as comparing it to other books by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars I stayed up until 7am reading this!, January 3, 2006

From the moment I opened this book, I was hooked. It just did not feel right if I did not read through the entire book. So I spent the entire night reading this book since 1AM. I was captivated by the characters and how the main character, Menley, gets through the horrible experience of losing a child.

Mark Higgins Clark wrote a powerful book. There were times where I was even afraid to get up and go to the bathroom. I was questioning my own self throughout the book. And the portrayal of post-traumatic stress disorder was amazing. I was feeling what Menley was feeling and at times, I wanted to scream with her and cry with her and be angry at the characters in the story with her.

I did figure out the truth behind the story halfway through but that doesn't mean that the ending wasn't a surprise. At the very end of the pages, you'll find quite a nice twist thrown in. I'm not going to ruin it for you. You just got to read it to find out.

If you enjoy mystery books as much as I do, then you will definitely enjoy this one. Plus, this book isn't just about a good mystery.. it's about a failing marriage, love, getting over a loved one, learning to move on, and so much more. It's a beautiful work and all of the characters were also so well-written.

This book deserves some serious recognition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mary Higgins Clark's best ever!!!, October 30, 2001
By
This is my favorite mystery. I love Mary Higgins Clark. Her books are fast paced, suspenseful with wonderful characters that all interconnect. I always take one of her books on vacation with me! I have read and enjoyed them all.

This one was just a cut above. She mixes more supernatural elements with her usual murder mystery. The Cape Cod setting is extremely intersting- almost a character of its own. Menley is a wonderful heroine that seems even more finely drawn that Clark's usual young protagonists. There are really several interconnecting stories- all exciting and well written.

This is one of the few mysteries that I curl up with again every so often- definately worth reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Her best so far!, August 18, 1999
By A Customer
This is Mary Higgins Clark's best book to date (I'm writing this after reading We'll Meet Again.) Remember Me has a wonderfully beautiful and creepy setting, and a more likable and realistic heroine than many of her books. Menley and Adam are a pleasure to read about and I found myself rooting for their fight to save their relationship, and later Menley's sanity and life. Their babysitter Amy, a new high school graduate, is a breath of fresh air, and another minor character, blue collar worker Fred is also a nice change of pace from Ms. Clark's typical rich beautiful people. Remember House also is a character itself, and a pretty freaky one at that. I highly recommend Remember Me, and I consider it her best in plotting, character development, and setting, and place it second only to A Cry in the Night in terms of being scary enough to make sleep difficult the night you finish it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely Unpredictable, January 6, 2000

"Remember Me," by Mary Higgins Clark is by far her best. After reading the majority of her books, they become somewhat predictable. This book, however, breaks the pattern! It's a great novel and I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars the one that got me hooked on this author, September 22, 2010
This was the very first Mark Higgins Clark book I had ever read, probably around 15 yrs ago, and it's the one that kept me coming back for more. I liked her style of writing so much I became hooked. She had me sympathizing with the main character from the very first page.

5.0 out of 5 stars All time best!, February 16, 2006
This is my favorite MHC title. This is, in my opinion, her all time best. Set on Cape Cod it is a story of a young woman who fears she's going crazy after the death of her son. The backplot of the house along with the suspense of the current plot is wonderful. The characters are people you would want to meet. Definitely a book to read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Until Death Do Us Apart?!, January 3, 2002
Remember me, by Mary Higgins Clark, is an interesting suspense novel. The theme of the novel is trust. If you are into who done it? Why? And where? This is the book for you. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Once you pick up this book you can't put it down. This novel can be emotional since it deals with the death of a loved one and also can be helpful, in away. It deals with the troubles in a marriage and the trust issue between wife, husband and ex-girlfriend.
Mary Higgins Clark wrote this book in the Cape. The characters are so real that you can't help but feel for the mother after she loses her child. Does she go crazy? Is she really crazy? Those are some of the questions you ask your self when reading the novel. You are also so involved with the book because cleverly, the author has not given a hint as to who and why they did it till the very end. Once you read the ending, you are shocked. I know I was really shocked because who I thought had done it was not who it was. This novel also leads you to believe, well for me it did that if you truly are in love with your significant other than you could handle anything. It also makes you wonder if you had a lot of money, would your significant other only love you for that?
Many surprising outcomes in this novel. The title says it all and really applies to the novel. Remember me, applying to a loved one recently lost. This book is very interesting and I recommend it for those who like mystery and suspense, and yes, Romance!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pay Attention, September 7, 2000
By
If you have never been exposed to Mary Higgins Clark's enthralling brand of suspense, this is the place to begin. "Remember Me" contains what I believe to be her most ingenius plot device ever, right up there with Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians" and "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd." A real mystery buff's mystery combined with Clark's typical flair for weaving in a romantic yet not distracting subplot that helps you really care about the characters and what happens to them. This is one of the big differences between Christie and Clark, in my view. With Christie's mysteries you always hang breathlessly upon the outcome of the mystery itself; with Clark it is not only the solution that keeps you reading (often for far too long!) but a genuine attachment to at least the main character. And sometimes even to an engaging, highly likeable killer! The comely killer caper keeps the reader from noticing what in retrospect, always in retrospect!, are fairly well defined clues. We begin thinking with our feelings, glossing over the obvious, something that never befell a Hercule Poirot or a Miss Marple, but often misleads Mary Higgins Clark's heroine. And then when the awful, horrifying truth finally begins to dawn, sometimes suddenly ,sometimes bit by bit, we feel angry and betrayed by the killer, much like Miss Clark's protagonist often does. If only she would make her killers loathesome types it would be easier to keep an eye on them. Oh, she has her loathesome characters all right, and sometimes they turn out to be the killer, but you can never be sure. The rule I've found most useful: suspect everyone but the heroine. I wonder how I'd feel if one of Miss Clark's books tagged the female protagonist with the crime. It would be a nightmare.
