Stereotypes and melodrama abound in this third installment of the "Redemption" series (after Redemption and Remember) featuring the Baxter family in Bloomington, Indiana. Luke Baxter and Reagan Decker made a terrible mistake the night of September 10, 2001, one that neither feels can be fixed in the wake of September 11. Meanwhile, Ashley Baxter is trying to reconnect with Landon Blake, who has gone off to become a New York City firefighter in honor of a friend who perished there. Unfortunately, the characters are little more than cardboard cutouts, and the novel reads more like a public service announcement against premarital sex than a contribution to literature. Every time a Baxter errs, he or she is socked with tragic deaths, life-threatening illnesses, or some other monumental disaster. A far better pick on the ups and downs of relationships is Linda Nichols's If I Gained the World (see below). Purchase only where the "Redemption" series is in demand.

Refreshingly real...,

This review is from: Remember (Redemption Series-Baxter 1, Book 2) (Paperback)
What a beautiful, wonderful story. I couldn't put it down. The tale of the Baxter family and it's patriach Dr. John Baxter and his wife Elizabeth stirred my heart with the tender honesty I crave in fiction. Everyone didn't pray the sinner's prayer or make all the right choices, but this book filled me with hope and faith. We are all so weak and fallable and in need of the great grace Christ offers. From the fragile memories of the Alzhemier's patients at Sunset Hills to the each of the Baxter children's journey to recapture the love and faith they'd left, lost or never discovered, REMEMBER is unforgettable. Bring the tissues and be prepared to leave this book's pages with a renewed understanding of faith, family and country. I'd been thinking this week that a depressive feeling I hadn't felt since September 11th had begun to assail me again in light of recent events. This book was a refreshing chance to truly remember, not only the sorrow of 9-11, but the charity and unity that followed. May God strengthen us all.

Characters Who Grow On You,
By A Customer
This review is from: Remember (Redemption Series-Baxter 1, Book 2) (Paperback)
I enjoyed both Redemption, and the latest, Remember. The author has given the reader characters who face real struggles yet grow spiritually in dealing with them. When a character "falls away", the author leaves the reader with the hope that he/she will return and renew their faith. It is easy to feel the heartwrenching pain and heartache the characters experience, as well as the joys. The book is a very easy read, and left me waiting expectantly for the next book, Return. For me, "not wanting a book to end" is the hallmark of a well written book, and is what I've found in the Redemption series.

COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!,
By suzieq "justme" (Robbins, North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Remember (Redemption Series-Baxter 1, Book 2) (Paperback)
This is the first Karen Kingsbury book I have read. I missed the first book but I am going to go back and read it too. I can hardly wait for the next book to come out. What a blessing this book was! I plan to share it with all my friends who love to read like I do. I also plan to read every book by Karen that I can get my hands on! The way she portrays her characters is amazing. It is as if you were living in the Baxter house and you are one of the family. You feel what they feel. I couldn't put this book down. My mom died a few months ago and this has helped me so much to remember her in ways I had never thought of before. The loss has eased somewhat. I hope her other books are this inspiring, uplifting, and helpful. I read one review that said it more of a self help book than fiction. Not So! It's like a buy one get one free! You are not only caught up in the story but at the same time you will reflect on your own life and realize that God is always there waiting for you to give it all to Him and watch Him work!
