A beatiful book.,

This review is from: Remember the Secret (Paperback)
This is a beautiful book to help children cope with the death of someone close. It's simple, comforting message is also very appropriate for adults. It is not overtly religious or Christian, although it does have 'angels" (friendly guides) who help the children in the story understand that death is not a fearful horrible thing and that they will someday be together in heaven with the one they have lost.

A very strange book and not appropriate for young children.,
This review is from: Remember the Secret (Paperback)
In the story two children, Suzy and Peter, have special friends that no one can see but them (beings named Willy and Theresa). The beings tell Suzy and Peter complex things like how "God created this world millions of years ago, " and that "What you are is a gift of God. Treasure it. You are special and beautiful, all of you, each one a different face of the Divinity . . ." (Remember the Secret pages 20-21). For me, this teaching doesn't coincide with what I would teach my children.
The beings, Willy and Theresa, remind Suzy and Peter that they are always with them, even when they can't be seen. And when Peter later dies, Suzy sees the trio laughing and singing together during Peter's funeral and she can't be sad because she will always remember that her dead friend, Peter, and Willy and Theresa are always near her. This is a very wordy book with rather cheesy illustrations, and since there are so many better and more appropriate books for children on death and dying, (as a Children's Librarian) I would not recommend this book for children of any age.
