Love it!,

This record rocks! I heard Pieta Brown on the radio and then saw her with Mason Jennings so I bought the CD. Her voice is so calming and I love the way she combines blues, rock 'n roll and country on these tunes. My favorite song is "In My Mind I Was Talkin' To Loretta." Buy it, you won't regret it.

I heard a review of this album on All Things Considered and just bought it. Every song is great, especially like the rockin' Sonic Boom and the sweet Talkin to Loretta.

Perfect CD to pop in your car cd, hit the road and drive all night. Either that or grab a bottle of red wine, stoke the fire, and dim the lights. Grab your lover and sit in silence listening. Let your minds wander and you'll enjoy every moment...

Remember This Artist!,

Pieta Brown's "Remember The Sun" is the best new CD I've heard in a long time.My favorite song on this CD is "In My Mind I Was Talkin' to Loretta" because she is obviously a Loretta Lynn fan and seems to channel her energy! Pieta Brown is captivating on so many levels! Saw her live in Atlanta where I first heard of her & bought the CD because I felt like she was sooo good that she was going to be a star. Now, I open the paper and she's in the Wall Street Journal's best of 2007 list! ...dang, I love being right! -Patrick Davis

Alt-Country's Rickie Lee Jones,

Pieta Brown's album, "Remember the Sun" is equal parts alt-country and jazzy inflections, capped off by a voice not unlike Rickie Lee Jones, only without the really high pitched stuff.
Brown takes the jazz-pop trail through about half of the songs on this album, including the opener "Innocent Blue" and the amazing "Song For a Friend." Both of these songs feature simple yet provocative melodies coupled with well-written lyrics and Brown's wonderful, evocative vocals. She takes a line that could sound cliched: "Just a song for a friend, and I hope we meet again" and propels it into an effective, emotional moment without getting histrionic. The alt-country aspects of this album are just as good, particularly her tune "In My Mind I Was Talking to Loretta." From the lyrical focus ('divorce and pills are commonplace'), I assume the song is directed towards Loretta Lynn, but that's pure speculation on my part. The song itself is a nice country stew that resembles the Cowboy Junkies more uptempo tunes. And of course, there's that wonderful voice. At other points through the album she affects a languid, swampy light blues sound (if that makes sense) that augments the other tunes. It may seem as if the album sounds fragmented, with many different styles creating a lurching track to track disparity, but that's not the case. Each song flows neatly into the next, and her jazzy stylings fit snugly against her alt-country leanings. And, of course, there's that wonderful voice. "Remember the Sun" shows that Pieta Brown has great talent and potential to get even better. Fingers crossed for her future success.

I am a devoted Greg Brown fan and have seen Pieta in concert with her dad a few times. In my opinion the new CD suffers from comparison to her earlier work. Much of it sounds a lot like her older songs, and when she does try to rock out a little more it doesn't work for me. I did like the song "In My Mind I Was Talking to Loretta," but beyond that it's just background music. She has a distinctive smoky voice but is hit-or-miss as a composer. Hopefully her best work is still to come.

Smooth vocals, great lyrics and refreshing guitar work by Bo Ramsey make this CD a joy to listen to ..I put this in a league of it's own. Resonates with folk, blues and rock. Especially Louisiana blues. Pieta Brown is on heavy rotation at my house ..that's for sure
