Book Description

“Hysterical! Made me want to break out a can of Aqua Net and hit the Jersey shore. Loved the characters and their sweet and steamy love story. You’ll find yourself rooting for Layla and dreaming about Trip for years to come.”
-Mika Thomas, Fiction Review

** Author's Note: Remember When is the first book in a trilogy series but there is NO CLIFFHANGER. This romantic comedy novel is intended for mature teen readers and immature adult readers due to some high school sex scenes, underage drinking, questionable language and 1980s flashbacks. **

Years before Trip Wiley could be seen on movie screens all over the world, he could be seen sitting in the desk behind me in my high school English class.

This was back in 1990, and I cite the year only to avoid dumbfounding you when references to big hair or stretch pants are mentioned. Although, come to think of it, I am from Northern New Jersey, which may serve as explanation enough. We were teenagers then, way back in a time before anyone, himself included, could even dream he’d turn into the Hollywood commodity that he is today.

I’m sure I don’t need to tell you who Trip Wiley is. But on the off chance you’ve been living under a rock for the past decade, just know that these days, he’s the actor found at the top of every casting director’s wish list. He’s incredibly talented and insanely gorgeous, the combination of which has made him very rich, very famous and very desirable.

And not just to casting directors, either.

I can’t confirm any of the gossip from his early years out in Tinseltown, but based on what I knew of his life before he was famous, I can tell you that the idea of Girls-Throwing-Themselves-At-Trip is not a new concept.

I should know. I was one of them.

And my life hasn’t been the same since.

Editorial Reviews

There are so many things I loved about this sweet and funny book. The writing was flawless, the story was addictive; I cried, I laughed out loud and I swooned... I devoured every single minute... all the way through it was handled with so much love and a huge dash of humor... You felt it all and it was such a wonderful experience... Remember When was fun, it was sexy, it was a giggle a minute, it was beautiful....yep, it was perfect.

~Jenny and Gitte, Totally Booked Blog

If you think you know what this book is about based solely on the synopsis, you would be wrong. Remember When is so much more... I laughed out loud, I cried, I swooned, I squeed... I angered, I hurt, and I was in total angst a couple of times... [and] I am SO utterly, undeniably, completely, and overwhelmingly in love with Trip.

~Kathy, Romantic Reading Escapes

From the Inside Flap

Remember When is the first story in an NA romance trilogy. It will take you back to that time before the real world kicked in, that limbo between adolescence and adulthood, that trial of hanging onto the past while figuring out where the future will lie.

With heart-shredding romance, steamy love scenes and hilarious eighties references, readers of all ages will find themselves rooting for Layla and dreaming about Trip for years to come. It's an endearing journey through the tumultuous world of friendship, family and high school...

...and the memory of that one incredible guy your heart just can't seem to forget.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must we wait until June?! March 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read the synopsis of this book and honestly was partially on the fence. Was it just another run of the mill romance?

Well, I purchased it, cracked it open (in the digital sense, of course) and did not come up for air for the next three hours until it was finished.

T. Torrest's use of detail made this book a must read. I feel like I know Layla as if she were my lifelong friend. I spent the entire book mentally cheering for her to go after Trip and still cannot wait to see what book two holds for this whirlwind romance.

Don't make the same mistakes I did. Buy this book without hesitation. You certainly will not be in the slightest bit disappointed!

Omg. A flashback romance. No Facebook. No texting. Just really simple fun and love. Brilliant. I love the characters in this book. They were witty and interesting and so real. I can't wait to read how their reunion went. Love love love this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars great read and anticipating book 2 February 2, 2013

Such a great read and the preview to Book 2 is such a tease! No tormented souls..nice change from the series books out there. There was definite closure in Book 1 that did not leave the characters bitter or in angst.

5.0 out of 5 stars not my typical read but I loved it April 26, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Remember When is just a super sweet love story.

I take notes while I read, I realize this makes me a dork, but it’s what I do, get over it. Anyway, I have a whole page of notes on this book pretty much just me gushing over how in love I am.

Before I get too far into this review I’m going to admit I did not really want to read this book. I don’t really want to read about high school love. I feel I’m in a weird place in life. I’m too old to read about kids under 20 (18 at least) and too young to read about second marriages and people over 45-50. Yet, I’m trying to branch out, expand my horizons if you will. LOL, that’s funny I almost believe it myself. In reality I started reading four other books before this one and none of them sounded any better so I said “Screw it” and dove into this one with the full intention to suffer through then delete it off the kindle and make room. (I try to keep my pre loaded kindle selections under 200 but am currently surfing at 203 – it makes me twitchy).

Back on topic, OMG! I am so glad I read this book.

This story is about Trip Wiley and Layla Warren, high school seniors. Trip is the new kid in town who of course is totally hot yada yada.

This book was hilarious and easy to relate to. It reminded me so much of my high school experience and my crazy friends, it was almost like a trip down memory lane. It was spot on to what it’s like to be 17 and crushing. Overall the writing in general was hilarious and just down right great. A few editing errors but nothing noticeable or distracting.

I was zooming along reading because it was so much fun and light hearted then BAM. High school drama takes over, but their 17 and it is high school so it was a believable turn of events.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm hooked. I am HOOKED. June 15, 2013
By BookY
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
EDIT 6-18-13 Ok, I just gotta say - it's been days since I read this and I cannot stop thinking about it! These characters, this story - it all just stayed with me! Don't let that cutesy cover fool you - this book really is something special and you should definitely read it. Seriously, MORE PEOPLE NEED TO BE TALKING ABOUT THIS BOOK!

Broken down in parts, this story is almost painfully typical. Hot new boy in school who MC is instantly attracted to? Typical. Falling for your guy friend? Typical. Angst over misunderstandings and non-communication? Uh, gag...and typical. But somehow - somehow! - Torrest makes it all work and I AM IN LOVE.

I am in love with these characters. Layla is awesome and I adored the humor in her narrative. She's flawed but not annoying, strong but still has insecurities - in short, she just felt very real and I loved being right there to experience all those wonderful and awful high school moments with her. I swear, my heart would feel all weird and twisty right alongside with hers at certain moments. Loved it.

And Trip. I won't say anything about him. You should just discover him yourself.

And this book's awesomeness doesn't just lie with the romance either. There's all sorts of other things going on -- friendships (loved Lisa), family (mother issues) and changes (the author really captured that sense of finality that comes at the end of the summer after your senior year). Everything works to move the story forward and in the end, shows us just how strong a person Layla really is.

And that ending -- Jesus that ending!

5.0 out of 5 stars Remember When You Were 17 or 18.... June 6, 2013

5 Stars

I enjoyed this sweet story so much. I laughed, I cried, I swooned--I freaking LOVED it. It's one of those stories that makes you reminisce about the past and will have you smiling almost the entire time. There are lots of 80s/90s references, which are really cool, and I'm sure most of you will remember them. The writing is excellent and will hook you from the beginning and the characters are extremely likable. I truly felt like I was back in High School reliving it with the characters.

The story is about Layla Warren remembering back to when she first met Trip Wiley who is now a famous actor. I really liked Layla Warren. She was very relatable--funny, sweet, smart, and fairly innocent. I loved reliving her senior year in high school and falling in love with Trip along with her!! I felt like I was going off to college too in the end.

"Layla, you are completely different from any other person I've ever met in my entire life."

Then there is Trip Wiley. He's the new student and every girl's fantasy guy! He's hot, has muscles, great hair, and is super dreamy. He's funny too and gives Layla a run for her money. His character was so fun to read.

"I was trying to convince myself that all I cared about was an improvement to the scenery of boring old Norman. Trip was like a one man beautification committee just by existing."

There is a ton of secondary characters that also play a big part in the story. You meet Layla's best friend Lisa and several other kids that go to school with Layla and Trip. Lisa is a blast and the type of friend every girl needs. She personifies what a best friend should be.

"In spite of our differences, or maybe because of them, Lisa and I have been best friends ever since.
