Inspiring quilts,
This review is from: Remembering Adelia: Quilts Inspired by Her Diary (That Patchwork Place) (Paperback)
Remembering Adelia is a wonderful book, sharing what life was like through entries from Adelia's diary. The quilt patterns are beautiful and instructions are suitable for both a beginner and the experienced quilt maker. I can't wait to start cutting out the cover quilt and I am positive that I will make all the projects in the book.
Truly a wonderful read.

Great book,
This review is from: Remembering Adelia: Quilts Inspired by Her Diary (That Patchwork Place) (Paperback)
Unlike a lot of quilt books that I buy and find 1 maybe 2 patterns I would do, this book is chock full of patterns I'm itching to get started on. I'm moving one to the top of my to do list to begin this weekend in fact. You'll find everything in here from a housewife (huswife) to wallhangings to larger quilts. And the pictures and diary excerpts just add to what is already a great pattern book. If you like history and quilts then buy it!

Diary and quilt patterns,

Ms. Tracy couldn't make up her mind on whether to write a novel about the Civil War or write a book about quilting. While both are favorite subjects of mind, I was looking for a book about quilting.
18 of the 80 pages are devoted to the diary of Adelia Bennett. I love old diaries and reading about how life was during a certain time period but I would rather have had those 18 pages with quilt patterns. The patterns are made of period fabric so they have an antique look. Of course, you could use any fabric and it would give it an updated look. The patterns are clearly written with graphics for those of us that like to have a visual help. The materials and cutting lists provide yardage and cut sizes needed. Instructions on creating the blocks and assembling the top are provided. Some of the finishing is left up to you and some tell you how to quilt it. There is a six page basic quilting section and a bio paragraph about the author at the back of the book.

I just got this book today from a quilt shop that had closed. I really enjoyed reading Adelia's story. I picked it up becaue the patterns look interesting and I want to try a vintage pattern. But I fell in love with the book because Adelia grew up in the same area that I did! As I read the entries and she mentioned 'Woodstock', I thought nothing of it, there are several Woodstocks in the USA. But then she goes on to mention McHenry, and I was hooked, there can't be more than one Woodstock and McHenry together! That's when I realized it was about the area I grew up in 100 years later! She visited many of the towns I did, I very much enjoyed the read!
I will certainly make some of the patterns, but I will cherish Adelia's journal!!!

I love this book! I keep buying it as gifts for friends who love sewing and quilting as much as I do. It has wonderful directions and some interesting small projects that also make wonderful gifts. The bonus is the old diary that is fun to read and takes one back in time.

quilt history and 14 projects,
This review is from: Remembering Adelia: Quilts Inspired by Her Diary (That Patchwork Place) (Paperback)
I love this book. One half Adelia Thomas's diary, the other half reproduction projects. Adelia was 19 in 1861, living in northern Illinois on the cusp of the Civil War. Her diary reflects her everyday life, family, and sewing, set against the backdrop of advancing war. Includes historical photographs and 14 lovely projects inspired by her diary.

This book is part diary, part quilting patterns. Somewhat interesting, but I'm not sure I'll ever use any of the patterns.
