5.0 out of 5 stars so darn good I started a record company around it..., November 20, 2002
This review is from: Remembering the Future (Audio CD)
What can I say. The moment I heard this on import from Sweden I knew it was a once in a lifetime classic album. Trouble is nobody in the US would release it. NASA was a pop band in Sweden but unknown here. So I started Ninthwave Records and licensed the album.
By 2002 the heavy use of the vocoder sounds dated, but remember in 1998 when the album was amde that was pretty new. Still, the album holds up very well. There is a reason that despite some 21 albums later, this first one remains Ninthwave Records best seller...

Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Synthpop album I've heard in years..., January 9, 2007

NASA was recommended to me quite a long time ago by a friend. For some reason I was hesitant to purchase a completely unknown album, and it languished on my wishlist for ages. This past Christmas I finally broke down and purchased it desperate for some new music. On first listen, I didnt think there was anything special about the album, but once I got it on my iPod and started listening to it in the car on my way to work, I was completely entranced by the catchy hooks and brilliant arrangments. The song themes are way out of left field, which I really like, kind of in the vein of Peter Schilling. The sound design is genius, odd electronic whirs and blips meld together to make wonderously catchy tunes. My highest recommendation!

5.0 out of 5 stars Synthpop worth listening to., July 14, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Remembering the Future (Audio CD)
This album is exceptional, and not just as a "synthpop" album. The songwriting is exceptional, the lyrics are witty and much better written than songs written by people for whom English is their first language.

Musically, it's some of the most imaginative synth-work I've heard in a LONG time! Honestly, to call this a "synthpop" album will probably turn people away who already have an idea of what "modern synthpop" is all about. This is unfortunate. Unlike the barrage of Depeche Mode and Erasure clones littering the landscape, NASA are a unique group, and "Remembering The Future" is a unique, and more importantly, fun album. It does "borrow" elements from other bands (New Musik above all others), this album is anything but derivative.

In conclusion, we have an album with pitch perfect vocals, memorable melodies and synthesizer programming, and a vocalist who sounds as far from Andy Bell and David Gahan as is humanly possible. If that's not enough reason to buy this album, I don't know what is. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Hooks Galore, December 5, 2002
By A Customer

I bought this album for the third track, "Cloud Control," and was initially disappointed to find so many tracks that sounded too much like New Kids on the Block or similar boy bands - for one who tends to be overly snobby with music, this was a bad sign. However, the tracks were so catchy that I kept listening. At some point around the fourth or fifth listen, this album won me over. The hooks are just too catchy, in a way that only Swedes - for some reason - can do.

I've subtracted a star because after the hooks are over, NASA tends to extend their tracks with conceptual extras that detract from the to-the-point-ness of their pop-ness. Also, a couple of the tracks are only average and the lyrics tend to be brainless.

Otherwise, however, this is a very fun, very light-hearted, but extremely catchy album for times when one needs an injection of solidly crafted, yet somehow innovative, pop music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pop music for adults., September 15, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Remembering the Future (Audio CD)
I liked this album from the very first note I heard and only wanted to hear more after it was over. If you like good pop music (not this pre-fab boy band junk) you will love this record. Strong melodies that sink into your brian and don't let go. Immaculate production that while professional never feels slick or over produced. Highlights are "Back To Square One" and "Nexterday." They have a page up on mp3.com, I would go there and listen to the tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure electronic excellence!, September 14, 2000

This come back album from the Swedish band Nasa has quality written all over it. Few (if any) other synthpop bands have ever released anything as well crafted, yet playful, as this. Many of the sounds are clearly inspired by bands like Kraftwerk (and that's certainly not a bad thing). The sounds, the futuristic theme of the brilliant lyrics, the multi-layered melodies and the warmth of Patrik Henzel's vocals leaves you crying for more! Among the favourite tracks are "Xenophobic", "Cloudcontrol" and the outstanding "They Call Her Love". Anyone who considers themselves a fan of electronic pop music should check this album out. I think I can promise you that you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Different, November 8, 2003
This review is from: Remembering the Future (Audio CD)
I recently recieved Nasa Remembering the Future in my mailbox. This CD has been out for a while but I just picked it up. They have a few songs online at mp3.com that really got me hooked. That isn't all there is to the CD though it is full of jems from the first to the last song. The songs are really upbeat, blippy, tunes, and have very comical lyrics at times. "Xenophobic" is a song about an alien that meets racism on earth. "I guess my seven heads just add to the confusion,". On of my favorite songs of the CD is the song "They call her love". The chorus totally strikes a chord with me and sounds amazing. "They call her love, she takes your life, God knows, she's drained all the life out of me, God knows why".

If you want a CD full of catchy songs do yourself a favor and check out this band.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Contemporary Classic!, January 30, 2003

I was captivated with this CD from the first few seconds of the first track. The title of the CD is highly descriptive, as the music is at once nostalgic and modern. With its laid back, futuristic vibe, immaculate production, and omnipresent vocoder, this CD has a fresh yet familiar sound. My favorite track at the moment, "Back to Square One," is an infectious number that recalls Level 42 and could easily be a huge hit in a just world. NASA, a Swedish duo, are to be commended for this fine collection of songs!

4.0 out of 5 stars back to the future...and to the past, June 8, 2002

Swedish band NASA heads straight back to the 80's with this release, full of sunny melodies and futuristic lyrics. It's a really nice records although I was a little disappointed when none of the other songs on the album were as strong as the single "Nexterday". At times I also get irritated by the constant robotic vocals. It would have been nice if NASA could have left the vocoder effects out of at least a couple of songs.
Still a really good synth pop album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nigel Harradine, September 24, 2009

I found out about this band through another band website and I am so glad I bought the album.
This album is fantastic and should have been a number 1 album, however that opinion only counts if you like true 80s Kraftwerk/Kraftwelt electronics. There isn't a bad track on this album it is fun sing along play my table top pretend synth. If this album had been made by Tony Mansfield it would definetly be called remebering the future by New Musik. Look! simply buy this album if you want some fantastic 80s electronic or just buy it because it's a great album.
