This is really two books. The print "dead tree" version is merely excerpts of the larger CD-ROM included in the book. This CD has, in Adobe format, the text to about 2,000 pages of reminisces and recollections about Joseph Smith and other historical events relating to early church history. It includes scores of accounts of the transfiguration of Brigham Young.
This book scholarly, and is all primary sources, so it is not a quick read. However, anyone who hungers and thirsts after the words of Joseph Smith will want to buy it.
My only criticism is that there needs to be a better search engine. You only used the "find" function on the bar, but there are better out there.

Drawing from more than 800 primary sources, many of which are previously unpublished, Remembering Joseph: Personal Recollections Of Those Who Knew The Prophet Joseph Smith is a compilation of hundreds of personal accounts of encounters with Mormon founder Joseph Smith. Organized by topic for quick search and reference, Remembering Joseph reveals Joseph at work, at rest, as a father and a son, as a boy and prophet, and as a leader of men. A searchable companion CD-ROM with thousands more stories, quotes, and memories as well as an extensive bibliography, biographical registry, and index round out this "must-read" for anyone seeking a personal perspective of this renowned religious leader.

Format: Hardcover
I enjoyed this book very much because it brought together, in one, what Joseph did and how others felt about what he did. Mark McConkie, who compiled the book, said it best on page 24. "Joseph Smith was a man who knew how to bring people to Christ, and that was his compelling emphasis. The Book of Mormon, which the world both hated and feared, is the most Christ-centered book in print, and its message haunted and yet haunts those who profess a conviction in Christ but are more wedded to their own traditions that to the humble Nazarene."

This book is excellent! I've learned more about Joseph Smith than I've otherwise learned in my 73 years. My love, respect, and understanding of his mission on earth has increased greatly. I feel as if I've had him in my home as a guest for the duration of time I've been reading this book. What a spiritual invitation it is to be involved in reading the testimonies of those who lived with, and by, the Prophet. Thank you, Brother McConkie, for bringing this beautiful book together for our enjoyment and learning. This will be one of the many books that I read that will be remembered for its information and for its spirituality.

The title tells it all. This is a great book for anyone who wants to know Joseph Smith the Prophet. There are so many parts of Joseph's life that were kept in private journals that commonly are not available. I highly recommend the book.

I have read about 12 books about the Prophet Joseph Smith. This book is by far one of the best.
Two other books that were excellent were THEY KNEW THE PROPHET by Hyrum L. Andrus and
JOSEPH SMITH THE MAN AND THE SEER by Hyrum L. Andrus.
