This review is from: REMEMBRANCE OF EDEN, HARRIET BULLOCK DANIEL'S MEMORIES FRONTIER PLAN (Paperback)
I found this book gave me insight into the life of rural Arkansas and plantation life prior to and after the Civil War. The memories were written in such a way that I became very much involved with the family and the surrounding areas. I didn't stop reading it until I had finished and I plan to read it again. The drawings showing the lay out of the planation was also enlightening. I'd always thought romanticaly of the plantation life but reading about the killing of hundreds of hogs at one time and the storing of the meat took me to the working side. The descriptions of the house and the "homes" the slaves lived in gave me a more accurate picture of that era. The book was totally worth reading. Read this one!
