Editorial Reviews

2003 EP of remixes from the award winning collective of Barcelona musicians inspired by gypsy culture. Their unique magic is a potent blend of Catalan rhythms and melodies underpinned by flamenco and palmas, hip-hop, tabla and rumba. Their recent live performances have been so exhilarating that seasoned industry veterans have been heard to name check them as their 'favourite band in the whole world'.

1. Cafe Bari (Dub Bari) (DJ Panko Remix)
2. Tiempo de Drumba (DJ Panko Remix)
3. Space Zambramix (DJ Panko Remix)
4. Rememorix (Ramon Gimenez Remix)
5. Quien Engana No Gana (DJ Panko Remix)
6. Tiempo de Drumba (Instrumental) (DJ Panko Remix) (Bonus Track)

Think jalepenos, cream cheese & strawberries, curried bananas in cream, butter & saltines.. Things that many people haven't thought would go together, maybe? But once once you've tasted them, you realise they are a natural symbiosis, just like...

Electronica fused with flamenco. Not the ostentatious guitar work you might normally associate with the word flamenco - no, this is more subtle, a female flamenco vocal set to relentlessly lax, expansive techno arrangements; liberally garnished with traditional percussion, light touches of flamenco guitar and gypsy fiddlework.

Y lo quiero tanto!

I understand these are remixes. Can't speak to how they differ from the originals, yet. Give me a couple weeks, I'll be acquiring more music from these guys. Would reccomend that you do, as well.

Much better than pickles & peanutbutter, this.

If I were being forced to choose only one CD to listen to for the rest of my life - it would be "Remixes from Bari".

I am not a flamenco purist, but this flamenco-derived album seems dishonest to me. My first requirement for any of the music in my eclectic collection is Truth, from which beauty can grow. Without Truth there is only "glamour" - artifice rather than art. This music is the equivalent of the faux-jazz of Kenny G or the faux-soul of Michael Bolton. If you're looking for fine non-hardcore flamenco, I recommend Estrella Morente. She's extremely gifted, and her music is Truthful as well as beautiful.
